I personally think ALC is great school even though taking my daughter back in forth there burns a lot of gas for me, but it's definitely worth it considering its the best school I found that would accept my daughter into Kindergarten with a late birthday. So parents if your child's birthday is after the Sept 1 cut off I would highly recommend ALC. The school is always clean, safe and secure. The director is a doll and very informative and easy to talk to. Everyone greets you with smiles from the receptionist to the staff. This school is very diverse and being one of the few African American families there doesn't bother me on ebit, everyone is treated the same. My daughter is learning things there my son didn't learn til the second grade so I would say the curriculum is pretty advanced which is what I was looking for because my daughter pretty much knew things before her time...... so I can't give ALC all the credit but I will say the school is helping enhance her knowledge. I gave the school 4 stars only because it is pretty expensive. I don't regret my decision looking forward to next year for first grade... oh by the way they go up to second grade. read more

I don't get it ... We must have been spoiled at our last preschool (Ft. Myers, FL). We relocated to Aventura and finding a school for our two year old was a challenge. Our first pick was on a waiting list. We settled for ALC and this place is a nightmare. I want to make it clear that the employees of this school are great. From the front desk to the teachers ... GREAT people. There is just a serious lack of vision at the top and the owners must have grown too quickly. 1) Who decides it's a good idea to have white uniforms (shirts) for kids? At $37 a pop, it was the worst possible choice. Love the uniforms, but seriously ... they are kids ... plan accordingly. 2) The drop off/pick up process. This is a complete headache. They have a binder up front that you are supposed to sign in and sign out you child. During the busy times you are squeezed into a small waiting area and wait to flip through a binder that is falling apart. I stop partaking in the sign in after the first week and not a word was said. Spend $500 and get a touchscreen and run software for this. THIS DOES EXIST. 3) Run like a jail....or so it seems. I hate the fact that I only saw my 2yr old's classroom during our tour. You can't see what they are doing, you can't just show up and check out how things are going ... in the waiting room you can peek into the school through their security cameras. I get by 1st grade their is a drop off process ... daycare?! ... I need open door policy. I was told I would need a notarized affidavit if I wanted to either go to his classroom or partake. 4) Donate paper towels, hand soap, paper plates, crafts, etc.? Are you kidding? On the "daily reports" we were asked numerous times to bring in supplies that the school should be providing without asking. Really cheap of the owners ... 5) Crafts/Art? ... does this even exist at ALC? When I mentioned that I have no idea what my kid does on a daily basis, I was told I would be presented a folder at the end of the school year with all of his work. I pulled my child out after three months, was presented the folder and there was literally 10 pages ripped out of a coloring book with scribbles. Granted he is two - but he did more from 6mos to 1.5 years than he did here ... such a joke (see pics. 6) Take debt/credit cards ... enroll people in auto pay. Seriously, this is 2014 ... Owners drive Escalades ... I think they can handle card processing fees ... and pay for paper towels without asking. Again ... I know these reviews are powerful and can sway future business. The staff is great. Ms. Ramos is an Angel. I have a feeling this school got too big too quick and they have no idea what they are doing. Just ask to see what your kid did during the day ... see if he has paint on his hands ... this is the most important time for a children's learning. Make sure they are in good hands and not just being dropped off at a baby sitters with security cameras. I'm now on Day 2 of KLA and he is a completely different kid ... and he actually came home with paint on his hands. read more

Our son attended ALC from 18 months until 3 when we moved to Weston. Great staff, facilities, and teachers! They're open early and can watch them until 6. My boy was saying his numbers, letters, and colors right away. He was also reading small words at about 2 1/2. I always got a great professional feel from the staff. We would've liked to spend more time in the classroom with him but they have some strict "volunteering" guidelines. You need affidavits etc. Also the uniforms were a bit expensive, and you had to buy sets. Couldn't just get shirts. The price is right and the service is great. In Weston all the preschools are several hundred dollars more per month, and aftercare is an add on. Wish we had an ALC up there. read more

Ugh. What a nightmare of an owner/director. My child attended several years ago, but I my husband and I were just rehashing the experience and I had to see if ALC was still operating and see that they are. My child had a lovely VPK teacher. However, there were several incidents that were ridiculous. I'll tell one to be brief. I had been Inside the class for my son's birthday celebration in October. It was now November and the kids were putting on a Thanksgiving show. My infant son and I arrived at the school to watch the show. The front desk told me that I was not allowed in because I did not have a signed affidavit stating that I was who I said I was. I explained that I had just been there the previous month and that they see me every day when I drop off and pick up my child. The lady was steadfast and told me I could go to the convenient store down the street where there was a notary, to sign the affidavit. I explained that that would take some time and I might miss the show. She did not care. I drove to the convenient store and got my affidavit notarized. Rushed to get back to the school, only to walk in towards the end of the performance to see my four-year-old with tears in his eyes, trying to hold it together and sing the song they were performing. Broke my heart, needless to say. I called the owner of the school and told her about the situation and that I never knew anything about the affidavit, and had been let in the month before. She was almost rude, telling me that the request for the affidavit had been in the initial packet that they had given me. This is a preschool for crying out loud. I was a mother who they saw on a daily basis standing there with an infant. Such a silly policy in the first place. Whether some notary at the convenient store is checking my ID versus their lady at the front desk, that at least knows me on some level. I just don't get it. read more

Our daughter has been attending ALC since she was 7 months, she is now two and a half and we are very happy with this school. She is learning something new every day, she knows the alphabet, days of the week and counts in both Spanish and English. She also made a lot of friends. The teachers are very attentive and sweet. We are looking forward to our daughter making new achievements in this school. read more

This is a hard review to write because I do feel there are some excellent staff members (including teachers) who go on and beyond for your child. What's even harder is having to relive my son's experience. He was excelling at the school until this past year. In January his behavior changed dramatically, acting out, angry, pretending to be sick to not have to go to school and showing no interest in activities. After countless calls from the school complaining about my son's behavior and all the conferences attended, nothing was getting better. I finally took him to a child psychologist and after the first session it came out that he was being mistreated physically and emotionally at the school. He mentioned certain staff names and actions that appalled me. The therapist quickly realized he was suffering from a form of PTSD and because he was so young, the only way he could deal with all of those feelings was by acting out and drawing attention to himself. Her immediate course of action was to advise us to withdraw him that same day because of the harm that it was causing him. As a parent, the last thing you want to believe is that this was happening under your nose, with evidence (we have pictures of bruises) and we still did nothing because we believed the school (oh he fell down, walked into a door etc). i could go on for about 2998098 paragraphs but i won't. The amount of money they charge for registration, deposit, supplies (which then by the way you have to by extra supplies for the class), uniforms is absurd. do your research, there are much better schools out there for your child. Also, the staff/teacher turn over is insane. read more

Absolutely love this school. Very clean, great staff that cares about the kids. I took my son out of the school for a while because the time wasn't working for me and it was my biggest regret, he is back now though. My son is learning so much and I couldn't be happier. Some may say that it is overpriced and strict rules but Mrs Ortega is running a business and she does a good job at it. Definitely worth it. read more

My daughter, who is now almost 3 years old, has been attending ALC since she was 3 months old. There are things I don't like (ie: white uniform shirts for little kids aren't the brightest idea when the shirts have other colors so dipping them in bleach makes them fade, the fact they won't do nebulizer treatments so I need to leave work to do it) but for the most part I love ALC. I breastfed my daughter until she was 18 months, and the baby teachers were very supportive and accommodating. These women taught ME how to do many small parenting things I didn't know because I had never been exposed to babies until I had my daughter. I am incredibly grateful for them. I have had many wonderful experiences, mostly with her baby and now K-2 teachers, who I adore. I love their ratios: currently the K-2 classroom has a teacher for every 4 -5 children, that is significantly below the requirements for the state of Florida. For those of you criticizing a tour where a child was crying, or you didn't like something you saw in the 20 minutes you were: you are not in there all day long, you don't know the child and don't know the situation so it is easy to jump to conclusions. I have seen my child carried lovingly by teachers (who did not know I was looking) when she was having a moment, and other times I have told the teachers (say during a difficult drop off) to please not carry her because I am concerned in her toddler tantrum my daughter might accidentally kick or smack them. Again, you don't know the situation so do not make assumptions based on what you saw for 15 min. If you are the parent that gives in to every little noise your TODDLER makes: well then daycare may not be the best for your child because no daycare can carry a child every single time they make a peep. This is coming from a breastfeeding, baby-wearing mom who still reads her child (almost 3) to sleep. But one who understands that toddlers can use crying as a way to get everything they want so now that she is a toddler, I don't necessarily try to stop every moment she is crying/throwing a tantrum. Yes they have strict contracts, yes they have required uniforms starting at the age of one, and yes they have a strict drop off cut off time, along other rules that are a bit strict (especially for babies and toddlers). As a mom who works and has to meet a schedule at work, and doesn't have the luxury to take all summer off: this works for me. If those rules don't work for you, then find a daycare/preschool that can accommodate your lifestyle, be it dropping the child off whenever you want, or no contract, etc. read more

I live across the street from this school so I toured it for my 4yr old and 1yr old. Ive actually toured it in the past when my oldest was 3. Once again I was less than impressed. The teachers in the 1yr old class were less than attentive to a little boy that was hysterically crying. Upon entering the room my "mommy" instinct was to comfort the poor child who was not being consoled. He calmed down as I talked to him and hugged him. Then one of the teachers started showing me a binder of activities they do throughout the year while the other teacher took the little boy & sat him in a seat at a table(the 1yr olds were doing puzzles). I thought the teacher was rough with the little boy(he started crying again). It was obvious this child did not feel safe here! I also did not like how neither teacher was down at the babies level interacting with them! they just had puzzles out and expected 1yr olds to self entertain?! I also noticed how other teachers spoke to their students in passing in the hall way, very rude & disrespectful. Furthermore they were not friendly as they passed by me, a prospective parent! Lastly, the prices are absurd! $100 gradation fee for a 1yr old, really?! And a 12month contract... no thanks, we travel in summer. The only good thing I can say is that they added 1 smart board and laptops to a new STEM area. Im pretty sure the K-3rd grade teachers are not even State certified. read more
