The weekender sweater in malbrigo rios
    Christina V.

Great local yarn shop!! I have been a frequent customer for a few years here since I moved to the Bay Area. They carry Malbrigo Rios which is one of my favorite yarns to work with for garments because it's super wash and I can launder it easily and looks great. I love when they have kits available and there's always been someone available when I need knit advice. Update: alert alert they have super cute sock yarn, and I love my latest project

First yarn shop in more than a year (covid...) and wow was I happy to find this jewel. They were so helpful and I loved the yarn I purchased.

    Experiment with yarn!

Yay! But they close super early. And of course great staff ready and at your service!

The woven wall-hanging I created using "Malala" from Manos del Uruguay (available at Avenue Yarns)

I have recently adopted weaving as my new favorite craft, and I decided to have a yarn-shopping day with a close friend (a knitter) who was visiting from out of town. Avenue Yarns was our first Bay Area stop, and we were blown away by their gorgeous selection (as well as their very friendly & helpful staff)! They have a wonderful range of colors, and in a wide range of prices, too. I was looking to purchase a small-ish lap loom, and they introduced me to the super handy pop-out loom made by Black Sheep Goods (see photos). Not only was it within my budget, but it works perfectly for creating small-to-medium woven wall-hangings! I also decided to splurge on a gorgeous skein of hand-dyed, hand-spun yarn from Manos del Uruguay. I love the yarn so much that I have since returned to Avenue Yarns and bought two more skeins! Although I need to slow down with my yarn-splurging for the moment, when I'm ready to go on my next mini shopping spree, I'll be coming back to Avenue Yarns!

Ask the Community - Avenue Yarns

Are the knit/crochet labs the same as social knit/crochet? I don't necessarily need "help" but I'd love to have a group to attend, even for a price to block out some time to crochet in the weekends.

The knit/crochet labs are help sessions with a teacher for $15. We have some scheduled social crafting times Wednesday and Thursday 5 to 7 pm and Sunday morning 10 am to 12 pm.… Read more

When we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm and bustling scene. A knitting workshop was in full swing with about 15 women attentively listening to a presentation. It felt like a true hub for knitters. The store was neatly organized, with shelves full of beautiful yarn in all colors and textures. Alongside the yarn were various hand-knitted items available for sale. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and for a Sunday afternoon, the store was packed which, judging by the atmosphere, is probably the norm for them. My aunt approached the front desk and spoke with a staff member about her sweater. The woman was kind, informative, and wrote down helpful details about when their repair expert would be in. She even provided a business card for follow-up. Although we didn't make any purchases this time, I was impressed by how well-stocked and inviting the store was. As someone who doesn't knit, I could still see how this would be a dream spot for any knitting enthusiast offering not just supplies, but community and expertise. 5 out of 5 - for the welcoming vibe, knowledgeable staff, and well-organized space. If I ever take up knitting, this is where I'd go.
