To get to here, you will need to drive on House Rock Valley Road which is an unpaved road. I did it in a 2WD sedan, but made sure that the weather was dry so there was no mud. There's a large parking lot with a few composting toilets. You do need to pay for a permit - the trailhead allows you to use your credit card to pay and prints out a copy of the permit. Anyway, this is an awesome slot canyon! Follow the stream bed until you enter the canyon. It's a short canyon that leads to a petroglyph panel. There's a ladder section, but also an alternative trail if you have a dog or can't navigate the ladder. At the petroglyph panel, you can then explore the Buckskin Gulch narrows (the full Gulch is an overnight hike). I had to turn around at some point since there were huge puddles of water - some over knee deep that I didn't want to risk accidentally falling into when balancing on rocks. I would definitely visit again!!!

Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliffs is a designated wilderness area within the Vermillion Cliffs…read moreNational Monument, which straddles the border between Utah and Arizona and is approximately 40 miles East of Kanab, UT. This wilderness area wraps around the northern side of the monument and encompasses the Paria River canyon and other smaller, connected canyons. It is also the site of the famous landmark known as "The Wave," though that area (called 'Coyote Buttes North') is only accessible via permit; and such a permit can only obtained via a lottery system. But if, like us, you don't win that lottery, this beautiful area still has plenty to offer, namely: stunning slot canyon hiking. PCVC wilderness area is accessible via three trail-heads on two different roads off Hwy 89. We chose the Wire Pass trail-head off House Rock Road, which involved just over 20 miles of driving on a winding, sandy (and sometimes rutted) dirt road off the highway. (Note: this road is not passable after heavy rain). Our destination was the Paria River canyon itself, which can be reached from the the trail-head by passing through Wire Pass. Long story short, our hike was beautiful. Wire Pass itself narrowed from a wide 'wash' to a narrow slot canyon about 50 ft high, and we could feel the temperature drop about 10 degrees as we entered the latter. There was at least one semi-treacherous spot where a steep, blind climb-down over a large rock was required (I was glad to have long legs). The canyon opened up a bit at the confluence with Paria River canyon, before transforming again into a wider but much deeper slot canyon downstream. But due to the dangers of flooding in this narrow space, we ended up turning back before our planned turnaround point, since we sighted (and heard) some big thunderheads about 20 miles or so upstream. (We agreed not to die of stupidity). But we still had a great day. Other things you should know before visiting Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliff Wilderness: -- A permit is needed for backpacking overnight in Paria Canyon -- Don't think you can just sneak over to 'The Wave' without a permit. It is patrolled daily; and fines range from $1k to $10k. They've even been known to impound vehicles -- If hiking a long distance in Paria canyon, you will get wet; wading through some deep pools may be required (so bring water shoes and hiking poles) -- All poop must be packed out (You heard me) -- Local monsoon season is June - Sept; best avoided for flash flooding

The hike is easy and short, less than a 1/2 mile. There is a sort of gate that you have to squish through. The best Petroglyphs are the right on the "trail". It's a short trip, I would pair this with glitter mountain and warner valley dinosaur tracks. This trail also has a toilet and picnic area on site. If it has rained recently you may not want to visit. Cars can get stuck in the mud! All wheel drive not required when it's dry. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and garbage bag. Keep an eye on kids so they aren't messing with the Petroglyphs, or can be tempting for them to scratch at things with the rocks laying around. Always clean up after yourself!

We visited Pioneer Park for the first time recently, and while it's definitely a beautiful and…read moreunique spot, our experience was a bit mixed . We didn't really know where to start when we arrived, and there wasn't much direction, so we ended up just climbing the first rock formation we saw. Honestly, if it weren't for a group of people ahead of us, we probably wouldn't have had any idea where to go. I was hoping to make it to the arch, but the climb felt a little too steep and slippery, especially with kids. We were carrying our three-year-old and keeping a close eye on our six-year-old, who was feeling a bit more adventurous than we were comfortable with in that terrain. We didn't make it very far in and mostly just stopped to take a quick photo so we could say we visited. It was also pretty hot, with the sun beating down the whole time, which made it harder to explore and enjoy the park fully. That said, the park itself is really nice, and you can tell there's a lot to see if you're prepared and know where you're going. I'd recommend going earlier in the day, bringing plenty of water, and maybe looking up a map or trail guide ahead of time, especially if you're visiting with young kids. Overall, it's a cool place, but we didn't get to experience it as much as we had hoped. Definitely worth another try with better planning!

Mood - Weird Stuff Part 2…read more As I was in the area def wanted to check out more things to arouse my curiosity. This pole came on my radar. The rain started to pour down and it became a bit of an adventure. Upon arriving you cant miss it. This pole is clearly seen from the intersection. It is on private grounds. The pole stands 81 feet tall and is adorned with license plates from all 50 states. Kimball Gardner is the proud owner of this roadside attraction as it sits in his yard. He welcomes you to drop off any plates you would like to have added to his continual work in progress. This work of art started in a smaller state of mind and after gaining much attention the pole had to be increased in size to allow for all of the plates that have been donated to his cause. Would def recommend as it is something to see. Even if just once. Pricing is free. However be mindful as it sits on private property. Location is E Washington Dam Rd - St George UT, ample parking on the street.

Go there in a jeep from Mesquite NV and have fun on the dirt roads. Bring food and water because it will be a several hour drive - an hour each way to and from the park and however long you want to stay there. We have not yet camped there, I am sure it would be a fantastic experience though and will post updates on our next trip there. I posted a couple photos, beware joy riders with shotguns (they only shoot signs, not people, I hope!)

I love to look at the beams of wood in the ceiling and imagine someone decades ago that would have been looking at those same beams of wood. The LDS church owns and staffs the museum and dictates the script that is shared with visitors. Their narrative claims that Jacob Hamblin was called on an "'Indian Mission' and had great relationships with the Native American people." Strange, then, that the Mormon Pioneers still felt the need to set up homes in forts with 12 foot walls surrounding them. I think there's likely more to the story and includes the fact that the Mormon pioneers took over land from indigenous tribes by force. However, this review is about the home/museum and that in itself is interesting. Just take the story with a grain of salt and perhaps do further research do get the full perspective-not just one side.

Mood- Weird Stuff…read more Today was an exceptionally weird day. I went to work and wanted to see some stuff. So what better way to get that accomplished than to hop in the car and research. This Spider was fabricated out of galvanized steel by Deveren Farley in 2018. It weighs over a ton, and stands 17 feet tall. This sculpture was meant to get an emotional response from people that viewed it. The head is crafted out of Utah License plates while the belly has a stop sign on it. All of the license plates that were used came from the evidence department of the Salt Lake City PD. Originally this art installation was at Main Street in a traffic circle until a local exterminator Morgan Termite and Pest Control purchased it and changed the residence to in front of his business. Would def recommend - the thought that was put into this art installation is what drew me to come and enjoy it. Pricing is free as it is out of front of a business. The slides and zip line were definite hits of the afternoon! The train wasn't running when we went (we were a few days too early) but it looks really fun! And nice that there's only one entrance so we felt safe letting grandson run around.

The hostess asked if we wanted a tour and we said no thank you, that we were in a hurry. She said she was willing to give us a super fat highlight only tour, which was great. We enjoyed the historical information we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. The building is very beautiful and has some interesting history. Definitely worth checking out.

The St. George Tabernacle is a lovely historic building that is open to the public and has free…read moretours. When you take a tour, you'll quickly learn that the tour guides are all volunteer service missionaries from the LDS (Mormon) church and are a wealth of knowledge on the history of the town, the architecture and, of course, the church. Plan about an hour for a good tour along with time for questions and to take pictures. The building itself is used for lots of events-devotionals, musical concerts, etc. My wife and I attended a gospel music concert here that was outstanding. The pews are all wood, so a little uncomfortable, but I appreciate the nod to the pioneers in keeping with the traditional furniture.
