To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally complain about the appalling experience my family and I endured while renting a vehicle from Avis in Cutler Bay, Florida. We rented a Wagoneer for a family vacation to Port St. Joe, Florida. Our travel party included four children, my elderly mother, and three dogs. We trusted Avis to provide a safe, reliable vehicle for this trip. Unfortunately, that trust was completely misplaced. Shortly after beginning our journey, the vehicle experienced a low tire pressure warning. We attempted to resolve the issue ourselves by adding air to the tire, but the problem persisted. Concerned about the safety of everyone in the vehicle, we contacted Avis for assistance. Avis arranged for a tow truck, which took possession of the vehicle and left us stranded. We were given a case number and instructed to travel to another Avis location approximately one hour away to obtain a replacement vehicle. Upon arriving at that location, we were shocked to discover that the employees had no knowledge of our situation. They did not recognize the case number we had been given and informed us that Avis locations apparently cannot communicate with one another. To make matters worse, they had no replacement vehicle available for us. At that point, Avis had effectively stranded a family consisting of four children, an elderly mother, and three dogs in the middle of our vacation. We were left scrambling to find transportation while dealing with the stress, inconvenience, and uncertainty caused entirely by Avis's failure to properly inspect and maintain its vehicle and its inability to coordinate even the most basic customer service response. What is most disturbing is that every step of this experience reflected a complete breakdown of communication, accountability, and customer care. The vehicle should never have been rented out in an unsafe condition. Once the problem occurred, Avis should have ensured that a replacement vehicle was available before directing us to travel an additional hour. Instead, we were sent on a pointless trip only to be told that no one knew anything about our case and that no vehicle was available. This experience caused significant disruption to our family vacation, wasted valuable vacation time, created unnecessary stress for everyone involved, and demonstrated a shocking lack of concern for customer safety and well-being. I expect Avis to thoroughly investigate this matter and provide a meaningful response regarding how this situation was allowed to occur. I also believe compensation is warranted for the inconvenience, lost vacation time, additional travel, and unacceptable treatment we experienced. I have rented vehicles from many companies over the years, and this was by far one of the most frustrating and poorly managed experiences I have ever encountered. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I was charged almost $800 for a rental that should've been around $200, and Avis has no idea why -- because they apparently have no record of my reservation, agreement, or final receipt. Make it make sense. I've spent hours emailing, calling their useless customer service reps (who sound like they're working from a beach bar), and talking to my credit card company trying to dispute this since April. Still, no answers. No receipts. No accountability. I paid a third-party site upfront, Avis claimed they didn't receive the funds and said they'd rebook me at the same or lower cost. Cool -- until they randomly charged me hundreds more and now can't even tell me why. I dropped the car off after hours using the key drop, which clearly gave them a free pass to do whatever they wanted with my card. Absolutely infuriating. Avis is either wildly incompetent or just doesn't care. Never again. read more

Everything was perfect and easy. The team was professional and we had the car lined up and were all set before my bag even arrived at the baggage claim. My upgraded car was perfect, and drop off couldn't have been easier. Awesome! The employee at the Panama Beach airport lied to me why I had to be charged an extra $50.00. I caught her in her lie when confronting her a couple of days before turning in my rental. The person in-charge never contacted me to discuss the situation. After we arrived home, we discovered on our charge card, a reimbursed of $50.00. read more

Avoid Avis, especially their customer service. I wish I could select a 0, but unfortunately that doesn't appear to be an option. My experience honestly is mainly directed to the AVIS customer service. When I first arrived at the avis location, I being avis preferred, was used to just walking straight to my car and heading out. When calling the customer service line to identify my car, I was told there was nothing they could do for me and I would have to speak with the desk. Not a big deal, but got the feeling the customer service was not willing to help. Later, I had left an item in the rental car, 100% my fault, but I have been struggling with avis customer service for the last 2 months just trying to get in contact with this avis location. Avis help desk again is not able to assist me with lost and found items, nor do they have the ability to contact the "corporate" avis location at the Panama City Beach airport (ECP). Overall my experience after being with AVIS for over 20 years has been officially ruined and don't ever plan to use them again. read more

This is for the Avis at Panama City International Airport. I had a great experience. I was worried after reading a couple of reviews but all went smooth. Check in at the counter was easy and fast enough after a day of flying. Returning was super easy to drive up and get the car scanned. Then I was on my way! Btw the car I received was not the exact model but definitely the comparable. I was worried that I wouldn't get the car I originally signed up for since it is Spring Break but I did get what I needed to transport an elderly family member. This company could not be more incompetent. After waiting in line for 20 minutes, they tell me not to wait just go pick your car with the app. That didn't work and three calls later they tell me go get back in line. In the meantime, they have removed the preferred line and put me at the back of the line. No line at any other rental counter. Do not rent from Avis. Ever. read more

Do. Not. Use. Avis. They will screw you over and leave you stranded. They overcharged for over $600 for a tow truck after they straight up lied and gave me an electric car with less than 5 percent charge. I called and called and they hung up on me after saying that they would transfer me. Do yourself a favor and avoid Avis at all costs. Get an Uber, it'll be $600 less. read more

They tried to charge me over $800 for a reservation that I had booked through their website for $220 a month in advance. After my flight landed, I waited in a 45 minute line behind several groups of people with only one person working the counter, only to find out they tried to pull the worst bait and switch Ive ever seen. I had a confirmation printed out for a 5 day rental with the price quoted at $220. The guy at the counter said that he could see that someone had cancelled the reservation in the system and then re-booked it at a new rate. There were no other cars available, so I suspect that a manager cancelled my reservation and then re-booked me at a higher rate to try and make some extra money. In addition to the $800, they also tried to take a $500 deposit from my Credit Card that was not disclosed in the rental agreement. I just left. I've rented cars from dozens of places in countries all over the world, and this was the absolute worst rental experience I've ever encountered. I had to take a $90 Uber ride to my destination instead. I reported this Avis to the Better Business Bureau. Definitely avoid this Avis. They will screw you. read more

This is for Avis at the ECP airport, aka Northwest Florida Beaches International. The prices are steep - $100 a day for a Chevy Impala - but the service was fine. They had a car for me, which I had reserved through Travelocity. Oddly, Avis itself's website showed they had no cars, but Travelocity said it did, so I made the reservation through Travelocity and it worked. Little or no waiting in line, they were friendly and helpful enough, and the return process was easy. My only knock on the place is that to get to your car, you have to walk hundreds of yards out in the open, and in the Florida summer, that means either blazing sun or drenching downpour. That's really a knock on the airport rather than the car rental agencies. read more

Avis at ECP. My check-out experience was just fine, as I've learned to skip the baggage carousel and go directly to the rental counter. You'll do better at avoiding the line this way. My midsize reservation was upgraded to a Chevy Equinox, which is a medium sized SUV. Bonus! The car was clean and exactly where it was supposed to be. Drove well, no problems at all. read more

Don't rent from Avis if safety of you and your family is important to you!! We did and had 2 steels belt exposed tire on our rental after only driving 90 miles, I couldn't change it because of the tool to lower the spare was missing, called Avis and was told that since I didn't get rental insurance either myself or my insurance company would have to pay for getting the tire changed by roadside assistance. Beware - I chose the prepaid gas option. Be aware that regardless of how much gas you use the prepaid option charges you for a full tank of gas. In my instance the paper agreement at checkout showed the car had a full tank (17.1 gals) but the prepaid option just a few lines below showed I was paying for 18.5 gallons to refill it. This is obviously a scam Avis uses to pad their profits. When I called customer to get the difference refunded the agent was a real smart ass - "It's only a couple of dollars". read more

NOTE: This review shows the old airport location, they are now located at the new ECP airport. We used this location for a car this weekend while vistiing PCB for a friend's 50th and were very pleased with the service. Since it's a small airport, the counter is located inside the terminal at the baggage claim, and the cars are all in numbered spaces out in the general parking area. Quick pickup and dropoff, friendly service, the car was a clean standard Chevy Malibu. The only snafu was that the car only had 3/4 tank of gas and was marked full, but I ran back inside and they adjusted this quickly and without any fuss. Definitely worth renting from again. The employees here could care less about their clients. Sunday, Sep. 29, around 2:00 I returned to the counter to retrieve my lumbar support that I forgot in my rental car. It had literally been only five minutes and they claimed the car was already being cleaned. I waited 30 min. While the incompetent workers pretended to look for the car and my medical device. The car was parked in the spot I left it the entire time they " couldn't find the car". I ended up without my lumbar device as I had to catch my plane. I haven't heard from Avis since then. The AVIS at Tocumen airport in Panama I would no recommend. They are limited in staff so I had to wait 20 minutes to have some one to give me the car and another 20 minutes to return the car. The car was dirty in the inside and made a terrible noice when driving it. They don't take care of their cars, witch is their main asset and product, at the end the product you are paying for. Be very careful at this location! The rental agent was very slimy and talked me into an upcharge on my reservation without telling me it would be an upcharge! By the time I figured it out, I asked to be changed back to my original car and they said I had already given mine away and could not be changed. They said I would have to pay a higher price no matter what at this point. At some point, I threatened to cancel and go to another rental agency and suddenly they produced a the original car I wanted. When I got home, I realized they upcharged me anyway for the original car and I had to call and get the upcharge removed. I will NEVER rent at this location again! read more

The rental agent put the classic bait and switch move. The car I booked I was told was not available due to a recall. Forced me to an upgraded car. I took down all of the license numbers of the same car I booked and when I returned in the morning to take back the upgrade they gave me the car I booked originally and unless they fixed the recall between 10 pm and 730 am the next morning it was all a scam. Very slimy operation. Avoid at all costs you will get ripped off. read more

Tried to rent a car from AVIS using my EAA discount for Panama City Florida. Made the reservation and called the FBO I was flying in to so I could see about the car being there. Gave me a number for the counter. Called it no answer, said it was closed at 4:00 in the aftenoon. Routed to the national number. Only way to get the car to the FBO 2 miles away from terminal, was to pay extra to join one of their elite services. Told the lady to cancel the reservation. Went on like to cancel and AVIS is charging 150.00 to cancel and 70.00 rental. Will never rent from AVIS again anywhere in the US read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED! We will not be using the Avis located at the NW Fl Beaches Intl Airport again! We reserved a Standard Elite SUV (which cost around $100 more to rent than a Standard SUV). When we arrived to pick the vehicle up we were given a base line Standard SUV with a 4 cylinder motor which was not going to work for our trip of 7 people to the mountains but as usual Avis offered an upgrade for more money. Melissa told us she could put us in a Suburban for $240 more, this amount reflected upgrading 2 classes (Full Size & Premium SUV's). We agreed only to be told that it was no longer available but she had a Tahoe (Full Size SUV) available cleaned and ready. We asked about the price and were told it would be the same as we were quoted for the Suburban although it should have been less since it is a class below the Premium SUV. At this point we were stuck needing a vehicle so we decided to take the Tahoe (Full Size SUV) only then to be told that the men delivering the Suburban to Fort Walden had taken the keys to the Tahoe with them. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for the keys to be returned at which time we found out the Tahoe had been driven to Fort Walton and had not yet been cleaned after the previous renters. When we called Avis we were told that there wasn't anything they could do about the price or service we received. THANKS FOR NOTHING AVIS...YOU JUST LOST AN AVIS PREFERRED CUSTOMER!!! read more
