I have had two PAP smears in the last month with an unsatisfactory result both times. I called and left messages SIX times after the first result and on the 7th call, the person who helped with the scheduling just said someone did try and call, but must have had the wrong number. ( I gave my number SIX times in SIx messages). Anyway, the second result came in this morning as unsatisfactory, meaning whatever!! SO FRUSTRATING!! I called and left a final message for someone to return the call to explain why they keep coming back unsatisfactory. I have found another doctor, set up another appointment and will NEVER use Avista Women's Clinic again!! I am not going to say the name of the doc, because I actually liked her. It's just the lack of communication from the front office, or scheduling person, and process of getting accurate test results that I do not like. read more

The front desk can't successfully schedule an appointment. I had scheduled a meet and greet with a midwife and when I got there they didn't have me on their schedule. I should have gathered that something would go wrong from a) other negative reviews and b) when I called to schedule, the girl kept putting me on hold because she didn't know how to do anything. Then she said her computer had crashed and to give her a few minutes. I patiently waited and then another woman picked up the phone and took over because clearly the other one didn't have a clue. When I arrived for my appointment the front desk lady appeared bothered that I was even there and when I expressed that I was frustrated that I had just driven a long distance, just to find out they didn't successfully schedule my appointment she didn't even say "im so sorry, let's try to figure something out" (You know, basic costumer service skills) I mean if I did this at my job I would be fired. Then when no solution was reached I said well I guess this is all the meet and greet I need and she said Sorrrrryyy in the most cynical way. I mean that was just the cherry on top. I understand that healthcare workers are under pressure right now but as a nurse myself, even on my hardest days I NEVER talk down to my patients or treat them badly. EVER. so I will never excuse that kind of behavior . In conclusion, the front desk is incompetent and rude and if I were the business owner of this establishment I would be livid if my front desk staff was driving away clients. I will not be back. I hope the steak holders realize they have front desk staff that are gambling with their business I'm sure they've worked hard to build. read more

I see mixed reviews below. Actual patients seem to have more negative experiences and the most recent five star review seems to be by a practitioner who isn't an actual patient which makes me question the nature of the review. I am giving this a one star because of my personal experience and the level of care I received before and after which I dont feel comfortable sharing in full on this forum, will share in part below. I'll start with the good. A few of the doctors are phenomenal here, but it looks like their best doctor, Dr. Huyng, recently left the practice. Some of the other doctors and some midwives should be avoided at all costs. As suggested by a review below, the office staff can be hit and miss with courtesy and helpfulness. I would say you have to be a pro self advocate to get standard care when attempting to make an urgent appointment through the front desk. As far as personal experience- in sum- my deepest regret in life was choosing this practice to care for me during my pregnancy. After I was in a car accident at 20.5 weeks pregnant, I called to see a doctor. I was sent to see a midwife at this location instead who only checked for a heartbeat. No ultrasound was done, no blood test preformed - I am negative blood type so this is surprising. I told the midwife I was spotting and in pain and she told me to use a tampon to check to make sure I knew where the blood was coming from. She never checked herself and sent me home instead. I called back later In day still gravely concerned and was told by Dr. Watkins I could not be seen as they heard a heart beat so everything was fine. Everything was not fine. In the week following I reported lack of movement and was told that was normal due to an anterior placenta and it was surprising to hear I felt movement before the car accident. No further testing was done. Anyway, I will not continue with the rest of my story because it's tragic but based on other reviews, especially other reviews on other sites, it sounds like this is the standard care provided by this medical group. If you feel comfortable with that level of care, this office might be a good fit. If not, look elsewhere. read more

Where do I even begin. My mom began taking my sister and I here when it was time for us to start getting our yearly check ups (my mom LOVES her doctor here, Dr. Spears). My sister and I had Dr. Balstad when we first began going and I thought she was good at first. My sister decided to get an IUD and she left crying from the hospital after getting it (I understand that it isn't comfy and kinda of painful at times when getting one). I decided that I wanted to get one too and talked to her a lot about my IUD options. We settled on one that was going to last 10 years. I came in for my appointment and I have NEVER been so traumatized. I ended up crying (kind of hysterically) because of the pain I was going through - I actually made my hand start bleeding because I was biting it so hard while it was going on (mind you, I've had my appendix removed, wisdom teeth out, tonsils removed, broken bones, etc. and have never experienced a pain like this). The situation lasted for 10 minutes and while she was trying to put it in, she asked me "Are you sure you're able to do this?" which I didn't find very comforting at all. She ended up stopping and we didn't get it put in. She let me know that we didn't make it far at all because my cervix wouldn't dilate enough for her to put it in. I didn't even make it halfway through the procedure and was still in so much pain!! There was a small pill she was supposed to give me to put in my vagina the day before going that helps relax your cervix so that it's easier to dilate and less painful to put in overall. She let me know that she FORGOT to give it to me the first time around so she gave it to me while I was crying. She told me that we should try again and that I needed to schedule another appointment. After that I threw the pill away and left crying. I got to my car and found myself still crying and my hands shaking - it was awful, and feeling traumatized is the perfect word for it. I switched to my moms doctor after that (Dr. Spears) and told her about what happened. Dr. Spears apologized for her coworkers mishap and let me know that Dr. Balstad shouldn't have even tried or offered that IUD to me because it's best for women who have already give birth (and other reasons) and it makes no sense that she ended up doing that. I was furious when Dr. Spears told me this. Fast forward, my sister had to get her IUD replaced and get a new one (she also switched to Dr. Spears). Of course it was a little painful for her again (getting an IUD in general isn't a great experience). Dr. Spears ended up cutting the string to the IUD too short and it'll now be harder for my sister to get it taken out when it is time. I feel bad for you for my younger sister! I had my yearly pap smear today with Dr. Spears and I left rattled. While she was asking me the usual questions about my health, she asked if I've gotten the COVID vaccine. I said no and she asked me why. I let her know it was a personal preference - the conversation should have stopped there. She soon became very opinionated and continued to ask me why. I again said that it is a personal preference. She asked me why AGAIN! So I gave her a couple reasons and she said "It's kids like you that are keeping COVID around." very bluntly (mind you I'm also not a "kid"). She then went on about how my generation is causing problems as if we are to blame for COVID. I let her know that I follow mask mandates, follow the rules, and am respectful of other people (such as keeping my distance). She then said "well I really hope that you aren't partying." I am 25 years old and came in for one reason - my yearly check up. I didn't come to be judged for my personal life choices, blamed for COVID (when I haven't even caught it), or to have the COVID vaccine forced upon me. I found the way I was spoken to today as disrespectful and the conversation unnecessary. Long story short, I'm not a fan of the service I have experience over the last few years and am now considering looking for a new gynecologist. read more

This is a negative review, but I will provide three qualifiers: 1) I am a man, and I honestly feel somewhat odd providing a review on a women's services/OBG practice. That said, I am a new dad and husband of a woman who was treated poorly by Dr. Spears during a traumatic experience. 2) Dr. Spears came highly recommended by two independent sources and I am not one to take my free time to complain on the Internet, so please hear me out. 3) The reason I am giving two stars (instead of one) is because nurse Nicole is awesome (per my wife) Long story short: my wife gave birth at home on our bathroom floor (not intentionally) after two prior visits to the hospital/doctors office that same day but we were sent home both times because the contractions were "too irregular" and didn't meet the magic 5-minutes-apart rule. My wife's contractions were still 8 minutes apart when she finally called the office a third time and they said to come back in. We did not make it. Within 10 minutes of that call, the baby was born on our bathroom floor, Emergency Medical Services arrived and we were whisked off to Good Samaritan, which treated us wonderfully. Additionally, I can't say enough kind words about North West Fire Rescue. They were truly amazing. I totally get that not everything in life goes according to plan, and frankly, maybe our current healthcare system is at least partially to blame for being shoved aside twice, but that is not what bothers me the most. What makes me sick is that Dr. Spears never even CALLED my wife at the hospital to check on her after finding out our situation and how our baby was born. My wife was with Dr. Spears from conception to full term, yet still a week after an unintentional home delivery, we have not received even a phone call from her asking how we are doing. Dr. Spears may be a very talented doctor. That's what we had heard, which is why we chose this practice. That said, if your family needs a doctor with any sense of empathy or bedside manner, I would advise to look elsewhere. And Dr. Spears, if you are reading this... If at this stage in your career, you are taking so little interest in your patients, it might be time to call it a day. read more

I have been a patient here for years, and even delivered my 4 year old under their care. However, I was seen here over a month ago and had some bloodwork done after expressing to the provider I saw that I felt as though my hormones were off and I may be peri Menopausal. I've tried now for over a month to get someone to call me back with the results, to no avail. When I call they seem bothered and say that she's tried to call me, but I have no missed calls from them. At my physical with my pcp she was able to pull up my lab results and as I thought, my hormone levels are way out of the normal range. She advised me to follow up with my gyn right away as I feel physically terrible and I am getting nowhere. I've decided to transfer my care to someone who will take my healthcare seriously. Two stars is only for my delivery experience at Avista 4 years ago as it was great. read more

I had a great experience delivering my baby with Dr. Watkins. When I was only 6 weeks along I thought I was having a miscarriage. Dr. Watkins was the on call doctor over the weekend and she was willing to open the office on a Saturday to do an ultrasound for me. This meant the world to me. She was always kind and I trusted her. I also appreciated that she was so thorough. She ordered extra blood work and ultrasounds in my last trimester to make sure that everything was looking okay. She was able to see that I had developed gestational thrombocytopenia. She had me get my blood work done weekly and scheduled an induction for me to make sure that I would be eligible for an epidural. During the delivery, she and the nurses at Avista did everything they could to prevent a c-section since my baby was not responding well to the labor. I was so appreciative of this and I was able to deliver vaginally. She also stitched me up well after a 3rd degree tear. My experience with her was great and I would definitely recommend her! read more

I can't say enough good things about this practice. Everyone from the front desk staff, to the medical assistants are wonderful and really act like they care. Dr. Huyhn is very compassionate, intelligent and really listens to your concerns. I have only given a review one other time and it was positive, so I will start with the positive: The nurse, and nurse practitioner, we're very nice and competent. I came in early to fill out my paper work, because I didn't have time to do it at home. That being said, I thought the woman behind the front desk was going to kill me with her eyes. I remarked that the parking there was tough, and she explained to me in so many words that that was "my problem, not her's", and she "didn't design the parking lot." I don't want to bore you with more details of her rudeness, but each time I came in contact with her, it wasn't pretty. Perhaps she was just having a really bad day, every time I saw her, but according other reviews I've read this is fairly typical. So, once you get past the fire-breathing dragon lady, things go pretty standard. Just remember to wear a thick coat of armor to deflect all the bad vibes. Or be like me, and never go back. read more

Avista Women's Care is an incredible women's practice and team. Dr. Spears has a lot of compassion for her center and their patients. Virginia, one of the midwives that works with a lot of my patients, gives complete attention and compassion to all of her patients. I hear rave reviews about all of the doctors and midwives here on a regular basis and trust them with my patients' care. I visited this clinic as a new patient to discuss HRT and symptoms from an ovarian cyst. The doctor ruptured the cyst during examination and then they would not due an ultrasound for a week and ultimately I suffered through the rupture with basically no care from the clinic. The technician told me it probably ruptured from the doc's exam. After being told I needed HRT, and after a couple of months on the HRT, I was much worse and was having some serious symptoms and side effects (trouble breathing, fluid in lungs and extremities) from the medication. I called the office to seek advice, asked if it was the meds. I was told no and referred to my PCP. After thousands of dollars of testing, multiple hospital visits for serious symptoms, it was indeed determined that I had an adverse reaction to the HRT. My PCP has been unable to get this clinic to call him back after a week and after leaving his personal phone numbers. They do not care enough to check on their patients even when they call with CLEAR reactions to what they prescribed. They do not care enough about their patients to return calls from other physicians regarding their patients. If you want a clinic who knows who you are, listens and cares, find another clinic, do not visit Avista Women's Care. read more

Dr Spears has been so proactive with me due to the fact that I've had a miscarriage before. She has been on top of my blood work even calling me on Sunday to get a prescription filled. I would recommend her to anyone who want an OB with many years of experience. read more

I absolutely love Avista Women's Care. We moved here from CA when I was pregnant with our 3rd baby. They took such good care of me. I wasn't sitting in the waiting room with 15 other people and waiting an hour (which happened a lot at my old OB). I trusted Dr. Moeller's opinions and she answered any questions I had. I was never particularly thrilled with this clinic. I am not currently looking to have a child, and that seems to be contrary to what they are focused on. The staff was dismissive and uninterested in me because I was not actively trying to get pregnant. I could tolerate this, however, as the locations were convenient for me to get to over my lunch breaks or right after work. However, I had an interaction with them that was inexcusable. I was in a car accident and a few days afterwards I began to have issues for which an OBGYN would be the correct doctor to contact given the anatomy affected. When I called, I explained the situation and asked to speak to a doctor or nurse. The person who answered the phone immediately asked if I was pregnant, to which I answered no. I was then informed that they would not transfer me to a doctor or nurse. They wished me good luck and hung up. I will never utilize Avista again. I was scared, confused, in pain and needed a doctor. My current provider was horrified when they heard my story, as I actually did need medical attention. If you aren't pregnant, don't even bother with Avista. They're completely uninterested in you. read more

Second and last visit. This place has been bit of a roller coaster with good and bad. First call I made to make the intial visit because my Dr recommended them due to some IUD issues and ovary pain. The receptionist was not so friendly even sighing loudly when explaining what I needed to be seen for. I chaulked it up to a bad day. First visit was good, but turn around. Friendly staff, yes even the receptionist. I saw Becky. Who assured me why I could be experiencing pain and wanted to run a test and would call me with results in about a week and sent me home with some a RX. Unfortunately I had a side effect that I felt wasn't normal and called. Which the receptionist said that wasn't and to come first thing the next day. I did, but today was not so great. Becky made me feel incredibly stupid like I didn't know what a period was or what was "normal" with the IUD. This is my second IUD, I'm aware of what's normal and what's not for my body and I explained I didn't experience the side effect until I started my second day of this medication. She wasn't really receptive and it was only then I was told I didn't actually have an infection and didn't need the meds. Could have called to give me those results for one. Regardless of what fell through the cracks, brushing someone concerns off with a condensing tone when the office is the one who told me to come in really put a bad taste in my mouth. Not saying this place is absolutely horrible, but it's a roller coaster of either friendly or really condescending and inconsistency. read more

HATE HATE this doctor office. Most dishonest, unorganized, unprofessional healthcare providers I have ever been around in my life!! I left them 35 weeks pregnant because I was finally fed up with the lies and miscommunication. I can't tell you how many times I called and would receive 3 different answers, then ultimately the "correct" one and hear "well I don't know who told you that..." They lied to me numerous times about the costs of my coverage, billing my insurance absurd amounts that was completely different than what they told me, I got 2 miscoded lab bills,... everything. And I worked in the business offices of a hospital for a number of years, so I knew exactly what was going on that, they would play off on "insurance"s or the "system"s fault. Nobody knows what's going on over there, and whenever I saw my doctor I felt like I couldn't tell her what was really going on because she was just doing the checklist and popped in and out so fast. I'm STILL dealing with issues with them I just want to be done! They just want your money, they don't care about your health or well being. WORST EVER!!!!!!!!! read more

I went to Avista Womens Care due to a complication with my IUD. I received great service and was told by two different staff members that the entire visit would be covered by insurance. Well... a month later, I received a bill in the mail for numerous tests that I was unaware had been run. I called the office to figure out why I had been billed and told the lady I spoke to on the phone that I had been assured the entire visit would be covered by insurance, and that one of the staff who told me that was a nurse who had been in the room during the procedure. The lady was extremely unsympathetic and rude. She did nothing to try and resolve the issue, only repeating that I was being charged for what the bill presented (essentially reading me the bill over the phone) and using "they shouldn't have told you that" as an excuse. Then she abruptly hung up. I definitely did not expect such crappy customer service from what I thought was a great facility but... guess I was wrong. I'm not sure about you, but when a hospital staff member makes a definitive claim, I expect that to be honored and I expect the hospital to be responsible for the actions of that staff member. I have no problem with paying - it's the fact that I have to pay after specifically being told that I didn't have to pay anything (I even stuck around the office an extra 10-15 min to ask if I needed to pay for the visit). And the fact that I didn't receive any sort of compensation, monetary or otherwise, (honestly, a sincere apology would have been fine) just makes it worse. Definitely will not be revisiting, and definitely will not be recommending to anyone else. read more

The front desk was inconsiderate and rude. I arrived on time and the receptionist didn't even acknowledge me so I ran out to my car to grab something. When I came back inside to check in, she scolded me for being a new patient and 5 minutes late, even though I had been on time. I went on to explain that I am not only a new patient but new to the area and the office is not clearly marked; which was received with a lovely rolling of the eyes. It seems if the doctors are as considerate as the other reviews say, that same sense of curtesy and empathy should be extended to the first point of contact with the office. This is the most incredible team of midwives and nurses! I had the best experience throughout my entire pregnancy and labor. Virginia Nagel delivered my daughter. She honored my wishes of a natural child birth and completely stuck to my birth plan. One of my nurses with an Australian accent (wish I could remember her name) got me through my terrible back labor by deeply massaging my back. These women are truly Amazing. read more

I have always received the best of care. Having used Avista Women's care since 2001 and was referred to Dr. Moeller, the service from the nurses and doctors have been above and beyond. Having 2 children under the care of Dr. Moeller was a wonderful experience! Dr. Moeller listens and addresses any concerns without making you feel silly. She takes time with you and doesn't make you feel rushed. She is a truly compassionate doctor and I know my health is in great hands. I have referred many people to them in return for outstanding care. read more

It was hit or miss on the type of experience you would have at this office. I was rarely greeted and decided to just sign in and wait for them to look up from their cell phnes/ computers. Some days they were nice and some days it seemed like I was a bother checking in for my appointment. I work in a medical office and would expect differently, but was trying my hardest to not be very critical assuming they have had a busy/hard day. I often felt rushed out of the room and with a first time pregnancy you just want information. My overall experience is causing me to give a 2 star review because of the billing department and their manager Mikki. I have never experienced such a rude encounter when trying to pay a bill. She is unwilling to work with you on payment plans that you can afford vs what she thinks you should pay. I attempted to pay what I am able to pay, and she said that was not the amount needed and that I would be sent to collections. I have not had a single good encounter with her and I do not plan to return to this practice because of her. I am really disappointed with how they are unwilling to work with people who want to pay them, but are unable to pay a large amount every month. Especially for someone who just had a baby, and took time off UNPAID time off to be with that baby. read more

I have had some pretty awful experiences with the OB/GYN practices I have been to in the past. Avista Women's Care changed that for me. I can't thank AWC enough and particularly Dr. Moeller for their help in treating me. If you are considering receiving services from Avista Women's Care there are a few things you must know. I am very patient and considerate so it has taken a lot of frustrating experiences with Avista to finally cause me to write this review. There is one, and only one, positive aspect of this center-both midwives Amber and Claudia are amazing & I would follow them anywhere! They are gems in this practice for sure! Unfortunately there are many negatives to be aware of as you consider this practice: 1. The staff are usually rude, do not greet you or say hello, give incorrect information, and are patronizing. When I asked them to not treat me so rudely they were a bit nicer but it was short lived and seemed to be done out of obligation. 2. The doctors can be reckless with the medical calls they make and this may affect you forever in terms of future care and your birth experience. If you try to kindly correct them or the other midwife you will be treated as an annoying patient rather than receive any form of humility about their wrong doing. Your medical chart facts may be misconstrued repeatedly. 3. Dr. Spears should not be practicing medicine. She has absolutely no bedside manner left if she ever had any to begin with. She will leave you sitting in a room for an hour after your scheduled appointment and instead of apologizing she acts like she has far better things to do and has little interest in what your needs are. She will make you feel small and minimize your pain. Women deserve to feel heard & taken care of as patients. Instead, Dr. Spears belittles any trauma or challenging experience you may have had-she will make you wish you didn't spend that hour waiting in discomfort. She will make you wish you never met her. I have never been made to feel so dismissed as I have with Dr. Spears. I think it is time she be held accountable for how she treats her patients. Dr. Spears, it does not matter how miserable you are-if you do not know how to be kind to your patients and see them as human beings then maybe it is time to throw in the towel. 4. Whether you are seeing an RN, a CNM, or an MD remember that you deserve to be treated kindly as a patient receiving services from a practice of your choice! The financial and emotional commitment you make matters and with this said I would consider going somewhere else. read more

I had a horrible experience with this practice. When I reached my 38th week of pregnancy, the practice dropped me from thier care because I had applied for supplemental health insurence. They claimed they could not legally bill me if I had CHP+ (They still billed me regardless, the liars). This was also after I had an ultrasound with them and they informed me that my baby was three weeks behind in size and might be a "failure to thrive baby." Also the baby was still breached and there was a strong possiblity that I was going to have to require a c-section if the baby didn't turn. Needless to say I was extremely concerned for my baby. So after dropping me from the practice and promising to contact me with information on how to proceed, I never heard from any of the doctors or nurses. The only one who has contacted me is the billing department, but only after I called them. Well Thank goodness I had a midwife. She was there when I needed her and with her advice, I was able to get the baby to turn by massaging my stomach. The baby was two weeks late but perfectally healthy and not even close to being a failure to thrive babe:) (8 lbs). It was almost a blessing not to have to deal with Avista anymore. So now I have a hefty bill from avista, but a beautiful healthy BIG boy. read more
