Everyone from beginner to the very experienced at this place is very helpful and very friendly. They understand being new is hard and they help in any way they can. I did take a few one on one lessons and then jumped into classes. It's a blast but far from easy. Expect to be a little sore and achy as you will use muscles you had no idea you had. Flexibility is important so plan on getting there a little early to stretch out before class. I've had ACL replacement, hand reconstruction from a severe shattering, and have a hip replacement and I'm 47 years old. If I can get out there and flop around anyone can.

The owner Darryl is the primary instructor and he is excellent! His daughter whom is a black belt often helps with the classes and she too is excellent at teaching the skills needed. Darryl is perhaps not only a karate instructor but also a positive role model for kids as he always stresses the importance of why it is good to learn karate, when to use it, when not to and of course he has the kids participating in these conversations. Darryl has the patience, knowledge, and experience to teach anyone including young children karate and the importance of discipline etc. He emphasizes the importance of discipline including listening to parents and putting school work first.

Brian and Dave have been great on Saturday mornings. But my wife, son and I have left Wednesday classes with Joe with tears and frustration. My son turns six on in a couple months and simply cannot do what is expected of him and cannot keep up with eight and nine year old white belts. We enrolled him knowing he lacked not only focus and confidence, but is behind his5-year-old peers with balance and coordination. While Mr. Brian breaks down the forms and works on each part, Mr. Joe ends each class with the expectation that students at least have a working understanding of the entire form. White belts are separated, but my son was in groups with older white belts. Anna - who has been incredible - has worked with my son one-on-one on Saturdays, but he falls woefully behind in classes lead by Mr. Joe. We understand my kid needs to show more focus at taekwondo, in school and at home. That's why we bring him. But Mr. Joe telling him recently that his focus is why he has 20+ stripes but does not have a black stripe, simply isn't true and was a major blow to his confidence. My son admittedly gets frustrated too easily and gives up. He was in taekwondo to work on that. Instead, it has been reinforced at Hwangs.

My daughter is very high functioning autistic, and Master Olsen connects with her. He senses when she is struggling and helps her out. He checks in with us on her. He makes up lessons for her if we are on vacation or if she was out sick. He has great command of the class. These kids are truly learning self discipline, respect, and self control because Master Olsen demands it in a way that is kind and fun. The rest of the staff is also incredible. Everyone is supportive, respectful, hard working. I can't imagine, aside from family, better role models for my child. When the kids test, instructors from other Villari's locations come in and lead the test, and they are all like Master Olsen. I believe it is the culture among the centers to act and behave a certain way, and they are the most professional people. I highly recommend this program for all kids!
