It's close to home and it's trails offer an amazing workout. Bender Mountain Preserve has many trails some that go along the creek bed, with others that are much more difficult, climbing up to a 45 degree incline. Once up top there is an amazing view overlooking the Ohio River Valley and Kentucky. Bender Mountain Preserve is more hiking trails than a standard park. It's very remote and even during peak times you may only see a hand full of other hikers. Plus dog friendly!!

The road in here is about a mile long, and it's VERY narrow - so narrow that I suspect it would be dangerous if you run into someone driving in the opposite direction... True to its name, this place has some fairly dense woods, and it's also got a fair number of hills. You'll find trailmaps for the taking inside the park, and you'd be wise to bring bug spray ;-)

One trail had pages from a children's book on signs as you went along the path, which was cute. Like others have said, it's not always very intuitive which trail you're on. It's perfect for getting together with friends, with multiple gathering areas and even rentable spaces. I've seen people taking engagement photos here, hosting weddings, and I even did my own graduation pictures here. It really is such a beautiful setting for special moments. One thing that always surprises me is how big it is. There are genuine hiking trails that wind through the woods, which is amazing for a park so close to the city. It's also great for birding, and I often see people playing frisbee, walking their dogs, or just enjoying a peaceful walk. The native plants and flowers are so well maintained, and there are so many little tucked away spots where you can sit with friends or a partner and enjoy a quiet, private moment. It's an absolutely beautiful park in a great area, and I can't recommend it enough.

The treehouse was pretty cool to see and near the treehouse was where we started our hike. Plenty of ups and downs on the trail that we went on. I'm not sure if I struggle at following the trail signs, but went the wrong way a couple times and think that the trail that we were trying to follow had multiple names. All was fine though, got to do a bit more exploring. The creek is pretty dried up. I would have liked more signage for hiking trailheads at the entrance of the park, so head to the left (as if you're going to the treehouse) at the entrance if you want to hike. Disc golf looks like it'd be really good here, I hope to come back and try it out.

Save your energy for the end! I'd say this is a beginner to moderate trails, since some pathways are covered with roots or leaves which could be uneven or slippery. Also, there are so many different trail options so don't go too close to dark if it's your first time, wouldn't want to risk getting lost. Dogs on leashes are welcome!

It is a lovely place with beautiful plants and trees (some very old), and interesting old architecture to explore. The trails that we took were clearly marked and easy. After the walk we sat at the covered tables socializing and recounting parts of our adventure to a new friend that we found sitting there upon our return. We had a great time.
