I had a custom-made Brooks Brothers' blazer and slacks that were too loose after I had lost 20-25 pounds. Mr. Awada made them fit as well or better than when I had originally had them made. I had an evening gown with lots of fabric and sequins for my elopement that needed alterations to the shoulders and the hem taken up about six inches. I can sew. I hem pants, alter dresses, take in this and that to the point where family members depend on me for a little favor. That being said I know when to call in a professional for a project beyond myself. The project I speak of is taking my father's wedding suit coat and tailoring it complete with a "new" lining salvaged from my late husband's overcoat. It was a tall order, which was why when Dino of Pasquale & Sons Shoe--another great Toledo gem--referred me to Awada Tailors, I was reassured entrusting my family heirlooms to Ali Awada. He made the coat fit like a glove, restored the worn cuff, and created a lining complete with details that included creating an interior pocket and preserving the B.R. Baker insignia (more family history). It's an amazing vintage piece of art now and even though it was an expensive undertaking, it's like getting a warm hug from two great guys from my past when I don this family treasure. Everyone always had amazing things to say. But the best thing I can say about his work is how he saved my wedding dress. I went into Ali and he was happy to tailor my dress the way I wanted AND also hemmed my reception dress. Truly the best tailor around! Actually when I lived in AZ I'd save my alterations until I visited family in Toledo. I currently live in Dayton area and still bring my stuff up,to him. Mr. Awada is extremely nice, and extremely good at what he does. I brought a suit to a family friend for some alterations, and she completely messed up (and cut!) the back seam. He was able to fix that, and completely tailor my suit and pants on short notice and to perfection. I will definitely be back to get all the suits my dad handed down to me fitted. Like some of the reviewers may have mentioned, the quality and skill at Awada does come at a price. I came to Mr Awada with an emergency alteration on my dress the day before my wedding. The tailor I originally took it to did nothing after he'd had it for a week. I called Mr Awada because of his reviews here and he said to bring it up, we'll see what we can do. He did the fitting, said he'd be able to do it, and had everything done within the hour. He was already working on pulling the seams while we were talking. In our conversation I mentioned I still l hadn't found the right color tie for my fiancé, so he made some calls and set me up with Diamonds, who had the perfect tie ready to go when I walked in the door. I went here for alterations for my prom dress as well as my sister's 5 layer princess ball gown. My sister and I were getting sleeves on our dresses because they are or shall I say WERE strapless. Mr awada came up with a cheep way to put on sleeves using the ribbon we had for our corsages and boutinere. He trimmed the once long dress to fit me as well as my sisters for her. Mr Awada is very friendly and does his job more than excellent. When I had originally gotten my dress, some seams were not sewn down good enough. Mr awada sewed it up and made it better than the condition in when I had originally gotten the dress. I would definitely come back in the future for all of my future tailoring needs. Fantastic, straight forward tailoring. He uses original hems and looks at all areas of the clothing to make it the best fit. Overall, he costs a bit more, but is well worth the price and the wait. I brought a suit in that was tailored elsewhere and he made it look perfect, fixing all of their mix-ups. I also used to go to alterations express, which ruined many of my pants. He may do good work but he's incredibly over priced, I asked for an estimate and the owner had an excuse as to why he couldn't give me one- I should've walked out, but I didn't. I went back to pick up my dress and the alterations were over a hundred dollars to have a dress taken in an inch. He tried to tell me that he gave me a deal, I will not be returning.
