At last ... A new flavour cuisine that's acceptable to all curry lovers.
This used to be a Thai restaurant but has been taken over by a couple who as enthusiastic cooks have devised a menu of fusion Sri Lankan spicing and steak, but also more traditional starters and seafood dishes.
So ... The service. Our hostess (with child) with politeness and gentle charm offered to help us with our choice. 'No no no I know what I'm doing' soon became 'err excuse me what does this mean ?' :-)
A mixed share starter had 2 succulent lamb chops with a mint and lime coconut milk sauce, patties (deep fried heaven) Bhajjis (crispy and light) prawn (perfectly cooked and sweet) and bread crumb covered rolls (chicken mash potato ginger and garlic) accompanied by chilli coconut sauce and a date and tamarind chutney...
At this point my return visit was sealed :-)
Nuff said !
Chicken and chick pea curry and Devil chicken with rice and chilli paste came next and resulted in mumbled exclamations like 'mmmmm' ' oh' 'mmmmmf' 'nom non nom'
Light and perfectly cooked rice with thinly sliced vegetables, intense chilli paste, and a stylishly reduced sticky sauce covering the chicken pieces amongst red and green peppers is all I can describe as the spices and their preparation whilst being utterly different to the flavourings of Indian/Pakistani restaurants are similar enough to make any curry aficionados visit a pleasure. So before either the personal attentive service is replaced by hustle and bustle of success, or the pressures of competing with a million other restaurants mean this wonderful new starter vanishes into obscurity (I truly hope not) come and visit Ayubowan and meet its chef and owners and enjoy the subtle differences of Sri Lankan food !
