Tattu is really nice inside and the staff are friendly although had to flag them down for more water and the bill which was surprising given the price point here. I came on a Saturday lunchtime and was surprised the prices were actually fairly reasonable - we ordered a lot and it came to around £30 each, although to be fair that's without any drinks. We tried 3 types of dim sum and they were all quite nice although have had better at Tai Pan and various places in London. We liked that they were different colours though! The menu seemed to say we would get Chinese tea but this never arrived. I ordered two bao for myself thinking they would be quite small but actually one would have been more than enough and would definitely have skipped the wagyu as this was very saucey slop (pulled meat rather than chunks) which didn't taste that great. I noticed my friend left both of hers. The crab one I thought was much better but tbh wouldn't bother with either again and would instead go for Dim Sum Su or Bao in London instead! Finally we ordered a couple of small plates - ho fun noodles seemed totally standard and I would imagine you could get exactly the same quality for half the price in any other. My friend commented she'd had the same dish in London the week before and the fillet had been consistently soft, which it wasn't at Tattu. The salt and pepper aubergine is deep fried and not bad but wouldn't get it again, although it's a good portion for the price. Overall the food wasn't bad but nor was anything that good and I wouldn't rush back although I'd be fine with going if someone else had arranged it etc. It's a little bit style over substance imo but it's worth noting that it really is a gorgeous looking restaurant inside with music at a good level and overall a pleasant environment to spend an hour or two. read more

The discreet door of the location was the only thing that threw me off. Other than that experience was great. Started off downstairs in their lounge with a pinot noir, and was promptly notified when our table upstairs was ready. Booth under the cherry blossom tree was a nice touch and service began as soon as we sat down. The steak was cooked to perfection, chicken and truffle dumplings were lovely, tuna sashimi, crispy pork belly and the aromatic duck were all great dishes as well. Food itself is the weak part of the link which is just such a shame as I want to go back for the decor, but won't because of the food. Food was very bland. I had the prawn and octopus toast and Thai style crispy monkfish and duck egg & sausage fried rice. It was either coated in sugar or dipped in salt, but no actual flavour My friends had Shanghai dumplings, probably the best dish, kimichi crab cakes and vegetarian chicken and black bean and another monkfish, which first came out cold and then returned too hot to eat. We all said the same about no flavour but lots of sugar and salt. We wanted to have desert, but couldn't risk more disappointment so we went carluccios round the corner for desert. read more

I really enjoyed my recent meal at Tattu. I'd been wanting to visit for a while but knowing that it's particularly expensive for the food that you get I'd decided to wait until a good opportunity presented itself. The menu has lots of modern Chinese cuisine to choose from. I opted for some Dim Sum and a few other small bites such as satay chicken - all of which were very nice. The seared tuna was also an exceptional dish! The service is friendly and professional and it's a lovely eating experience but I do feel that it's very overpriced. This restaurant is relatively new to Spinningfields but it definitely hasn't failed to capture anyone's attention. From the cool downstairs bar area to the breathtaking restaurant space upstairs, it's definitely worth it to come here at least once to admire the architecture...and maybe enjoy a cheeky drink. First, alcohol: they've got a selection of interesting cocktails. Price range is relatively similar to any other upscale bar in Spinningfields. There's one that comes in a bear-shaped glass jar which is very nice and slightly gingery (if you're into that sort of thing). Second, food: their portion sizes started out to be quite generous when they first opened but I feel they've gotten slightly smaller and a little less fresh. Regardless, the siu mai and miso cod were very memorable. Finally, the bill: at which point I had to cover my eyes and deliberate how many future meals I could skip without going hungry. It's pricy but worth the visit. Staff are incredibly friendly and will walk you through the best way to order from the menu. read more

Looking for somewhere special to spend our anniversary I chose this place. Luckily just in time to take advantage of the 50 percent discount in January! Walking in I was greeted instantly and led upstairs. From below I could see leather booths with rose lights showering down upon them. Straight ahead on the top floor was the open kitchen. We walked past a couple of booths crowned by a faux cherry blossom tree and to the left Japanese themed quarters..For a more intimate dining experience. We had a dedicated waitress who took our drink order.. I had heard great things about the cocktails so I tried a cherry blossom costing almost a tenner..Despite it's small size it packed a punch. The menu consists of small plates such as dim sum, various seafood and meat dishes...And the mains the same with some.interesting twists.. the waitress recommended how much to order so we had the king crab dumplings, pork crackling, duck egg fried rice, tuna tartar , ribs and lamb chops with pumpkin. Everything that arrived was stunning. The crab was good although the pork with its cracking was the best I ever tasted. The tuna was under a lot of herbs but was very tangy and tasty although a bit scarce. The lamb chops with pumpkin was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of pink in the middle and the ribs generously meaty. One bowl of rice was enough to share and in mid scoffing I had requested a long drink.. the waitress picked a mock cocktail but had added shots of gin to it making it taste like a boozy solero. To finish I indulged in some satay ice cream and a sparkler to congratulate our anniversary. The bill would have cost £160 but thankfully it was 50 percent off. The atmosphere is beautiful here and the furnishings swish. Yes it is expensive but I would recommend dining here for special occasions. Service was impeccable. read more

Went for a 2nd time to Tattu back in January - this was during January 40% off offer. (It did not include their dim sum offer they have on). My previous (1st) visit to Tattu I thought the food was just OK but the actual restaurant is really nice and service was really good. And because of the service and the interior, it meant I gave it a 4/5. Now this 2nd time, I had a better time so going to give it a 5/5. It was perfect but can't complain about anything. I think the food all tasted better and maybe even bigger portions? The stand out dish was the black cod which was delicious. The interior, of course, is still really nice and the tree is a beautiful "centrepiece". The service was really good - attentive, and great knowledge. I am rating this place a 4 primarily for the ambience and presentation of the food. While the food was not bad it was not as amazing as we were expecting based on how highly recommended it was. This could be because we were there during lunch rather than dinner. Overall it was a good meal but not a great one. New bar in spinning fields. I was told this place was very snobby but it was far from this. We were dressed casually after work in jeans and blouse and sandals. We were greeted at the door by 2 door men. Then just inside the door we were greeted by two ladies asking if we were eating or just there for a drink. We had just eaten so we said drinks. They pointed us in the direction of the bar. At the bar we were give a menu we chose the house white wine. Priced at £20 i didn't think that was bad at all. There prices did range upto a few hundred pounds per bottle. The bar was dimly lit so you could relax and just chat but with a good open space at the same time. I'm super torn about Tattu, while it has some super excellent bits, there are some things I would change if I ran the joint. Privileged to have a best friend who hates chain restaurants as much as I do, when heading to see one of our favourite bands and dining too, we thought we'd give tattu a go. I booked on the phone, straight forward enough, polite staff, hot on their allergens and dietary requirements, which is good- with enough notice I'm pretty certain that these guys would be darn accommodating. There did seem, however, a strangely high amount of confirmation bits. We arrived, and were asked again about dietary requirements, and we were directed to the bar to order drinks before the table was set, they took a card, gave a lockbox key, things that seemed a little ott, again, understandable, but it seemed the level of trust of a company who've been swindled before. It was quite the "hup" onto the chairs for my little legs, and coat and bag hooks wouldn't have gone amiss. Driving home later, we stuck to teas and softs, my hibiscus tea was rather lovely. Ushered upstairs, and sat on a 2-table near the oft mentioned cherry blossom tree, the decor definitely is lovely albeit busy, a handful of people needing tattu=tattoo epiphany moments when it came to the ropes and anchors. The attentive waiter explained the menu, and we got perusing. The do also offer cutlery rather unjudgementally. After giving vegan recommendations for mcr earlier in the day, I was feeling guilty for the sheer number of creatures preyed upon by our menu selection, on our table at staggered times (be prepared for table Tetris, peeps) there was; Spicy pork wontons Mixed dim sum basket Duck egg and sausage fried rice Seared tuna Kimchi crab cakes Salt and pepper aubergine Duck Bon Bons Lobster and prawn toast The things that were good, were stunning, the seared tuna was lovely, and with more of a kick than the menu suggests, the pork wontons- especially the sauce they came in was great, the cherry sauce with the duck, the black cod in the dimsum basket, the jalapeño and coriander dipping sauce from the little trio, and the aubergine weren't slippery. Unfortunately, there were a couple of things that weren't as exciting, the toasts were cute, crusted with mixed sesame-tasted nice, but just didn't meet my expectations, they were a bit much just to have in one but too solid stacked, yet a dainty width to bite in half, and the crab cakes had a nice sauce, but were a bit texturally uninspiring. We followed up with the dragon egg pud, which was an on trend bit of theatre, with flavours that were nice, but not the perfectly paired boundary pushing things that the presentation implied. The few changeable things that rang true for us both were; -coats and bags- I've not been to many nice places where they don't offer to take them off you, as a restaurant people will want to visit when they're in town for the day= guests with shopping bags and bulky coats on the floor and draping chairs, coat hooks under tables would be a welcome & easy addition if there's no cloakroom in use, if you want to go somewhere you can play footsie under the table, it's not going to happen here, and more than once I feared for the feet of the waiters tripping over shopping and straps. -you're really close to other tables- in a popular place, I understand this is going to happen, but at 5pm, when it's not yet packed, surely a table could be left between us and the woman loudly screeching that her favourite drink is an "ex-presso marhhrtinnehrrrr" less than a metre away. -little touches- daft things like, inconsistent water glass filling, photos of gorgeous tattooed people which are backlit which stops them from being as sharp as the gorgeous ironwork- make these paintings, or printed on something that makes that black black & not being entirely consistent with the dress code- I'm certain that I live in a smart-casual minimum, it's part of my job, and my friend has the best taste in shoes so I know he's always good for it, but come on chaps, scruffy polo shirts with the collars up? I don't see how it could be romantic, or how some reviews complain about cost, we were both expecting a higher tag, and we were really full! Overall, there were some parts that were absolutely hands down nailed; every server's attitude, dress, was impeccable, and we could have both eaten the pork and tuna all day, but it just doesn't have the polish that comes with more seasoned finer dining establishments, it's like forgetting to put pockets on a pair of trousers, they're nice, but it needs a little more- it seems more footballers and instagram youth (see; two young ladies spending ten whole minutes posing in front of the bloody tree from every angle, disturbing diners and reapplying make up after phone checks) than high end, meeting the posh-not-posh bar- when at the end of the day, it's the food that's going in my mouth, not the hashtags read more

I was excited to visit Tattu after hearing many wonderful reviews of the food, and had high expectations. The restaurant itself didn't disappoint; a stunning interior with a cherry blossom tree in the main dining area upstairs brings the wow factor, and the great ambience of this place makes for a great evening out. The waiting staff were lovely too, the waiter gave an excellent run through the cocktail menu, which had some interesting choices. I opted for the cherry blossom and my partner, the brewed, screwed and tattu'd. Both excellent choices! Now the main event, the food. I was excited to try their Asian fusion dishes, and we opted for pork shumai, venison won ton (which I highly recommend), red pepper lamb chops, black Angus fillet, and green beans and duck egg and sausage fried rice sides. Whilst the flavours of the dishes overall were great, I was hoping for something a bit more outstanding from this fine dining restaurant. The portion sizes were fairly small which I wouldn't mind if the food was excellent, but, for me, it was lacking that extra zsa zsa zu. Hence the 4, not 5, stars. Some of the flavour combinations didn't seem to work. The lamb chops was my favourite as the flavours really complimented each other and the lamb cooked beautifully. Not a big fan of the rice, the sausage didn't seem to work or wasn't needed in dish (in my opinions) and it kinda left an odd aftertaste. Dessert other the other hand was fantastic and deserved 5 stars! I had cherry blossom and my partner had the harvest moon festival. One thing that did bug me was the maître d walking round with her iPad checking on tables constantly which could've been done much more subtly! Overall, an excellent experience and great food which I would love to give 5 stars but is just lacking 'something'. But I would still highly recommend. This place is more for a special occasion as it is fairly pricey when enjoying 3 courses with drinks. But I am keen to go back and try the lunch menu which seems to be a great option for a fair price. read more

Went to Tattu tonight. I was very excited about this restaurant as I've been to Yuautcha in London and heard it had a similar menu. Overall it was OK, cocktails were nice, food was average. I would return again for the ambience, the dessert, and the cocktails but not for the food. Ambience - excellent. Nothing much else to say for both the restaurant and the bar. The service was very good at the restaurant. The waitress was very polite and attentive. We didn't wait for very long for the drinks or the food. They had to move us downstairs to the bar after the meal which was fine however we had to take our own drinks downstairs. She did carry the bottle though. Food: Dim sum: 1.Wagyu dumplings - recommended. The actual dumpling wrap was beetroot flavoured. The best out of all the ones we ordered. 2.Beef and foies gras dumplings - tasty, but couldn't taste the foies gras much. The dumpling had a very "beefy" texture. 3. Wasabi scallop dumplings - average. Not mind-blowing. Overpriced. 4. Kataifi black cod with mango and coconut - great concept but a bit bland. The kataifi was well-cooked and crunchy. Black cod was good. However, overall the dish was missing something. Mains: I had the char siu pork with steamed rice. The pork was tasty but dry. Overpriced for this type of dish. The sauce was good. Dessert: I had the cherry blossom which was excellent. It was well-balanced and very well presented. It came with fresh flowers, cherries, cherry-flavoured candy floss and meringue and chocolate sorbet. Excellent dessert. My friend had the Buddha's hand posset for dessert, which was very well presented. Had very citrus flavours. Cocktails: Orchid blush - sweet and refreshing. Would order this again. Skull candy - very sweet, tastes like bubblegum but great presentation. This drinks comes in a skull bottle with dry ice. All of the above cost us £161 (including a bottle of Prosecco, an additional cocktail and my friend's main - King prawn and Hokkien noodles). I was expecting the menu to be more innovative. I don't tend to have traditional dim sum in fusion restaurants because I always find it's not better than your local family-run Chinese restaurant and they tend to be overpriced. However, I do go to the fusion restaurants to try new flavours. I'd return, but mainly for drinks and the ambience. read more

This was an absolutely stunning restaurant. We had dinner on a Sat and it was all booked. So I do suggest make a reservation. The whole restaurant theme was very romantic and chic. Live DJ, and the staff were very friendly, they walked through the whole menu pretty much. So we just ordered the dishes the waiter recommend and same with the drinks. They also took the time to explain every dish when they were served.. To drink - I had the FLY WITH ME and then the LOVE ME, HATE YOU. Both drinks were very interesting and yummy too.. Especially the Love me, Hate you - its a two-drinks set. It's a pretty romantically-decorated drink.. To eat - We had crispy duck rolls which is very tasty inside and crunch outside. Then the beef and foie gras gyoza (I would recommend), a very interesting combination but well balanced flavor. Black cod and prawn - the dressing was very nice. The seafood was cooked professionally. Lobster and prawn toast - again I think they cooked just right but the toast was a bit burnt.. the crispy pork belly (highly recommended) crispy on the skin and tender meat.. sauce was very flavorful..then the wagyu brioche bau, its oxtail - was super tasty and the meat just melted inside my mouth !! I always have a thing for oxtail dishes...the key is the meat absolutely must absorb the flavor from the wine's sweetness and fruity flavor.. Then finally dessert - we shared the cherry blossom and buddhas hand. Both of the presentations were gorgeous, made me feel bad to eat it.. the bitter dark chocolate and tangy cherries were perfect balance... The sorbet on buddhas hand were very interesting.. The portions here were small so I recommend you share different dishes with friends.. It's not a traditional Chinese food taste, but it's an interesting experience to see how chefs present the items and the twist between Eastern and Western foods. One word for the whole experience is FABULOUS. I have never visited this gorgeous place before but I would definitely advise booking. We did go on a Saturday night. And I booked on the Tueadqy before and literally got the last table after some serious flirting! I cranked the charm offensive to the max. The whole experience was just perfect. The door staff opened the door and welcomed us. Then we were greeted and quickly taken to the bar to enjoy a pre dinner cocktail. Just as we finished this amazing gin number (that nearly blew my pants off) we were shown to out table upstairs. What's so impressive is the cherry blossom tree in the middle of the restaurant. There are also little romantic tables dotted around and some great booths for groups. Across the walkway is the kitchen. I do like it when you can see the food come out. Also the other side is a live DJ. Not sure they would take requests but the music was pitched just right. Great tempo not to too ravey or disco or too loud. Yes I am a dad ha ha There was an army of staff. Someone to take your order. Someone to advise and serve wine. Someone else to serve the food and finally someone to sort the bill The menu is extensive and good for sharing or if you want to self indulge there are loads of great little delicious dishes. This is our third visit here and we can't fault it! The food is delicious ; the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance is lovely. Tattu is quite expensive £440 for 4 if us but we ate 3 gorgeous courses including crispy belly pork starters and lobster also chocolate torte dessert. Kung Pao chicken was excellent as was the lotus root. Wonderful atmosphere and plenty of eye candy.

One star is for the environment, while nobody would hate the Japanese-style tree and pirate looking interior furnish. One star is for the presentation of the food, which is above average in Manchester I believe. The final one is for service, even the bill takes 15mins. The taste of food is very pale and very monotonous. I won't be back for food but might for drinks. read more

First dining experience in Manchester. First, the ambiance and decor are outstanding. Quite beautiful with different textures and lighting. They have a lovely white floral note (can't pinpoint if Gardenia) in the air. This could be potentially off putting since you are there to dine and smell good notes not a fragrance. Personally, I thought it was tasteful. The food is an Asian infusion mix, as a guest of a local company, my host ordered several different tapas sized items that included, leg of lamb, pork, dumplings, sea bass, and assorted steamed Asian vegetables. Paired with a lovely Chablis, the amount of food was perfect for the four of us. I didn't find one item to be extraordinary or signature. The food was well prepared and presented. Service was a little stretched, as my local host noticed, but it seemed the wait staff was still learning a bit and clearly put forth the effort to accommodate us as best as possible. Came when it was a 50% off. I really didn't like the food. But my wife and my mates wife thought it was really nice. They liked the place. Fancy inside. I was not impressed. It felt like I was visiting batmans cave. The desserts try and use complex flavours which do not work together. Dim sum was really average. I went in January. So maybe it is better now. Good place to take a date. Lots of dark areas..... Service was very good. Still was not good value even with 50% off. read more
