I had to park on a dusty hillside and got stuck (but didn't realize it until after dark!). someone with a 4 wheel drive truck pulled me out, but my car was filthy and covered with dirt and weeds. Other cars were stuck too. The party was loud and crowded and there weren't enough bathrooms for everyone. The bathrooms smelled like urine. The music was way too loud, so loud in fact, that the sheriff showed up. After the sheriff left, the music was turned up even more which made me very uncomfortable. I couldn't even talk to anyone because of the volume. I do not recommend this place for parties. It was poorly planned, very unprofessional, with no respect for our hard working police. Do not book a party here. Do not go to a party here! It was a complete disaster!

They have vacation rentals in Humboldt County in Trinidad, Arcata, and McKinleyville. We have only stayed in ones in Trinidad. Trinidad holds a special place in my heart and I absolutely love this quaint beach town! They have several properties in Trinidad that overlook the ocean and the views are absolutely stunning so you can pick the ones that works the best for you. Some of the properties also have a hot tub if that is something that you are looking for. They have dog friendly vacation rentals as well, which is important to us because we love going on mini vacations with our dog. Trinidad is such a beautiful area for a getaway and to have mindful moments to take in the natural beauty that surrounds you! We absolutely loved watching the sunsets and enjoying wine in the evenings! Trinidad is truly a magical place! The only negatives are that more and more people are discovering Trinidad so the prices in the area of bed and breakfasts and vacation rentals have gone up. Also, I don't love the fees that are associated with vacation rentals and the rules. Overall though, Trinidad is a beautiful place to stay and if you are looking for your own private oasis, Trinidad Retreats has some amazing properties to stay at!

Our bartender was great she was friendly had some great conversations with us and made the visit there that much better. We learned a lot about the area and found out she was originally not to far from where we are from. They have a great selection of beers and drinks, oysters and even have veggie dogs for the vegetarians out there. She was giving facts about the area and the house. She was also talking about the beautiful pieces in the house. It was very reasonably priced and I really recommend you come here to tea time. You do have to book ahead. They are going to be expanding downstairs to a bubble room with sparkling wine and champagne. I will be coming back here with my family as it was such a lovely experience.

My wife, her mom, and I spent two nights here as we explored the various parks (national and state) in the area, and found it to be good place to stay. I made the reservation for two nights via Chase Travel, total of $536.06. Holiday Inn is part of the IHG rewards program (which having a CSR credit card will automatically give Platinum Elite status, though it didn't really provide anything additional worth mentioning). One good thing though is that one will earn nights and points through the IHG rewards program, even if booked through an on-line third party travel agency (which usually doesn't happen). Just need to make sure that your rewards number is listed in the reservation (mine wasn't). Another big benefit is that you get a $250 annual credit if using your CSR for a 2+ night stay at an IHG hotel. It has shuttle service to the airport, and we noticed airline employees taking advantage of it. Surface parking is free, with plenty of spots. We noticed a section where rental bikes were available, for those who wanted to ride at the Hammond Costal Trail. Our two queen room was fine, and it was an accessible, meaning the bathroom and front area were very large. It was a shower/tub combo unit and the water pressure was very strong, best we had on the trip. Shampoo and soap were Dove products, which my MiL really liked. Beds were comfortable, the large flat screen TV had a variety of basic cable channels, and a large work desk with a comfortable office chair. A microwave, coffee maker, and small fridge completed the set-up. The room had a modern thermostat, connected to a Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner, which worked well. The hotel does have an indoor pool, guest laundry room, and 24-hour fitness center. The lobby has two Costa Coffee espresso machines, with freshly ground coffee beans. The breakfast/lobby area is decently sized with a nice complementary breakfast in the morning (opens at 6:30), and a section of to-go items for those that want to get an earlier start. Free freshly popped corn was available throughout the day, which my wife took advantage. We were able to take advantage of the full breakfast on the 2nd morning, and I liked the premade Green Chile Egg Chorizo & Cheddar breakfast burritos available. There was no make your own waffle machine; instead, a 'Go Ahead Pan-cake my day' machine that made pretty decent pancakes ("in a minute flat"...l love puns :-).

They had free cookies and popcorn, plus a little complimentary coffee and hot chocolate bar, which after a long day of driving was genuinely appreciated. The woman who checked me in was wonderful--super kind, long gray hair, just a really pleasant person. She even gave me a room with a small balcony view, which was such a nice bonus after being on the road all day. The room itself was clean, modern, and I had zero issues with it. They also offer a complimentary breakfast buffet, which matters more than people admit--there are hotels that cost more than this and don't even offer that. Holiday Inn Express isn't luxurious, and that's not an insult. It's not trying to be. It's clean, comfortable, reliable, and consistently better than you expect. You go in with low expectations and leave thinking, okay, I get why people swear by this. For what it is, it really punches above its weight, and I'm genuinely glad we stayed here. Thanks!

The place is clean, and it's just such a nice atmosphere. Not too fancy. A very nice atmosphere. The bartender was very friendly, and he made sure to take very good care of us. If there was anything we needed, somebody was there to help. The food was excellent. We had a choice. Of either chicken or grill your own steak, with all the trimmings. I had the steak, and it was very decent sized. It came with seasoning, barbecue sauce, and butter if you wanted to put it on, and then you just popped it onto the grill, and in a few minutes, your dinner was ready. My steak came out, perfectly, medium rare. It was tender, and it was delicious. They had several different desserts, and they were also very good. Afterwards, we just had a nice time visiting and catching up. It was a great event. The Elks always take good care of us. Thank you for a very good evening.

We looked at many, many venues in Humboldt County with a few requirements: we could bring our own caterer, we could bring our own alcohol, we could bring our own DJ, and it had beautiful outdoor spaces. Mitchell Grove not only checked all of these boxes but another one that almost no other venue did: BATHROOMS! Nice bathrooms! Multiple! (Seriously, this is not to be underrated). Also, you rent the venue from Friday morning- Sunday afternoon which is so so nice for DIY brides like myself. After weeks of trying to get in contact with various venues, dealing with grouchy venue managers and reading through not-so-generous contracts viewing Mitchell Grove was a breath of fresh air. The owners Will & Julie were extremely quick in their communications and gave us a same day tour. They spent so much time showing us around and answering questions and even offered to save booking our date for a week to give us time to decide. I had originally wanted to have our wedding at Pamplin Grove so that we could be surrounded by nature and the redwoods, and I feel like I missed out on none of that having our wedding at Mitchell Grove. It has big wow factor, and many of our guests were wowed by it's beauty as well. Through the year of planning Will & Julie let us come out to the venue a couple of times for planning and were always really gracious and welcoming while we were there. The weekend of the wedding they were helpful, available and did a lot of awesome behind the scenes help. Another awesome thing- they have lots of little extras available- such as chairs, various decorations, arch ways, etc. The weekend of the wedding went smoothly and I was blown away by how beautifully landscaped the entire property was. In the owners words- this is a perfect venue for "DIY-ish" brides. If you are looking for a beautiful laid back venue but also like maybe aren't into pit toilets, Mitchell Grove is awesome.
