Opening time was 1 pm and it was perfect as it was on the way to our hotel from a morning visit to the town of Ferndale. There were only a few guests when the gates opened but wait times filled up fast as there was only one staff tending the taps and gift shop. We were second in line, so it wasn't much of a wait for us. I ordered a flight of five with regular ABVs (alcohol by volume) which included the iconic Downtown Brown, Harvest Wheat, Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout, Great White and Lost Coast Pilsner. I and the other patrons were bummed that the Indica IPA wasn't on tap so I ended up purchasing a six pack. I wanted a totally different variety of beers when we had dinner at LCB's restaurant a few nights before. The restaurant offers a flight of 6 on tap BTW. I'm more of a wine person when given a choice, but the tasting the brews of LCB was one opportunity I wasn't going to miss while I was here. I like IPA and wheat among the beers but ended up liking all of them. Even the dark stouts. Unlike, the restaurant, they only serve chips (unpacked) and salsa (sealed) here. My wife (designated driver) and son opted to get a taster of their root beer and a couple scoops of ice cream from the gift shop. We ended up purchasing a bright tie-dyed tee LCB tee and a fridge magnet.

Miles went the extra distance and even picked us up from our AirBnB and drove us to his wonderful winery. The views are absolutely wonderful, even with some rain we still had a great time. Miles treated us like personal friends while he taught us all about winemaking and his journey. His wife made us a tasty charcuterie board as well. If you like delicious natural wines I highly recommend visiting Miles. I've never had a wine tasting that felt so personal and to be able to hang out with the original winemaker is quite awesome too. We left with multiple cases, this stuff is so delicious! Next time we're in the area we'll be sure to visit again. Thank you for such a memorable birthday!

We were staying in Garberville and wanted to taste some Humbolt County wines. We call Briceland Vineyards to see if we could taste that same day. Andrew the winemaker was working on a project but was kind enough to accomodate us at 4pm (just 2 hours after our call). We arrived a bit late and he was there to greet us with a smile. He invited us to taste on is patio in front of the winery. He brought out two cases so we could try a variety of wines to include: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, PET Nat Sparkling, Rose of Pinot, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a bonus wine of Arneis. Its rare that you sit down with a winemaker for over and hour and learn about winemaking. He really educated our group. His wife brought out a beautiful charcuterie board with cheeses, meats, nuts and fruit. I am a wine member at many wineries in other California regions and have never experienced such GOOD winetasting. On top of that every wine we tasted we liked which is also very rare. The Sauvignon Blanc was light and grassy. The two Chardonnays were unlike the heavy oak and butter types that are too big. His red wines were smooth and not too high in alcohol. We left with several cases of wine. I will definitely visit Andrew again when we visit Humboldt County. I highly recommend a visit to Briceland Winery in the heart of Redwood Country.
