She was not pulling the hair properly and when I said it is painful, she said now I know! When I told her she left some hair, she said it's too late and when I asked her for scissors, she just handed it to me . I requested her to do it as it was not practical for me to do it myself as I was unable to see hair properly, she coldly said she won't do it, what if she cut my skin!! My whole skin was left sticky as they don't clean. When I was dressing up, she didn't leave the room and told me I have to rush.. how ill mannered is that... Never ever go there.. it's cheap but not even worth a penny.

When you come in you need to pluck a ticket out of the machine like you would normally for the meat counters in some supermarkets. And while you are waiting there are some seats but you gotta be pretty lucky to get one as they are always taken. The actually service I received wasn't that great as I had to point out areas where the lady had missed and after 5 minutes it did not look like there was any difference made. Sorry to say I did not have the patience to tell the lady what she needed to do and she was not swing about her work not looking even or defining my eye brows. Apparently it's all about the wax you use. Aloe Vera in this case. Rechere's Hair & Beauty Academy is a gem. For as little as a fiver you can get great quality beauty treatments in a clean and relaxing atmosphere. No, no, don't expect The Sanctuary, this is Tooting. But do expect clean facilities, polite staff and a friendly atmosphere. From the moment I picked up the phone and was spoken to so nicely I had high hopes for this place. Waxing places make me nervous, I'm not really into beauty treatments and I always feel that the ladies in places like this can smell my fear - or the sweat building on my brow! It's a training salon, so for a snip of the price you'd normally pay you get trainees (supervised) performing your treatments. You can get manis, pedis, hair styling, massages, facials, you name it and they can do it. They even cater for all ethnicities, and male customers too. I was very lucky to have the wonderful Jessica waxing me, her chattiness and friendliness soon made my nerves calm. The Germaine Greer in me had allowed myself to become quite unladylike! Never fear, Jess is here whit a wood stick, wax and some cotton strips. Seriously these guys were great, and I shall be back. Keep that to yourself. They also specialise in Guinot beauty treatments. Guinot is this French skincare company with really awesome (yet outrageously expensive) products. If you can't afford a full set of Guinot skin products (4 items is minimum £100 or more), get a facial. It won't set you back too much, they range from £25 to £50. OK, so maybe that's a bit pricey, but it's worth it. You'll be glowing so bright after you leave the place people may think you're some kind of spectre and ghost hunters will come after you in droves and you'll be featured in the next Twilight Zone. Or not...you'll just look hot. The service is fantastic. All of the ladies in here know you by name and they treat you like family. The woman massaging me gave nothing close to a deep tissue massage that I asked/paid for. I'm not sure what she was doing, but she kept running her nails all over my skin very lightly in an almost sensual way; at one point she came way too close to my groin area doing this "massage" technique. She also tried massaging my front without anything covering my groin; I had to convince her to put the towel on me before I would roll over for her to continue. As far as I knew, This place wasn't the type of place that offered a bit extra! Apart from the above, my massage was only 45 minutes rather than the 60 minutes I paid for. When I asked about it at the front, they offered to give me £5 back because they charge £35 for a 45 minute massage and £40 for 60 minutes. I challenged and said I should get 1/4 of what I paid back since the massage was 1/4 short. They refused to give me the £10 and again offered £5 or to add 15 minutes on my next massage. I knew I wouldn't be going back, so I settled for the money and left.

Anyway, someone recommended this salon to me and I haven't looked back. Vilma, the owner, is an excellent colourist and stylist and I've never yet been disappointed. She is also really lovely and the salon has a relaxed, friendly vibe. Stylish rather than trendy I would say, and not trying too hard to be cool like some others do. The prices are very reasonable and there are always great deals on. My two sisters also get their hair done there and one of them lives in Deptford so it must be good for her to travel all that way!

I love that I can just go along and have a chat and not feel like I'm in the way like you do at some salons. The owner, Vilma is lovely and she is a fantastic colourist and stylist. I love my hair every time. It's a really natural shiny blonde (if I do say so myself!). She even made the blonde to brown thing work without the awful murky in-between stage which is pretty impressive! I also get my nails done with TLC Nails and Beauty in the upstairs salon which is great. I never thought my nails could look nice until I went there. Anyway, I can't recommend this place enough, so if you're sick of paying for overpriced chain salons like Headmasters give Shine a try.
