I remember walking into City Meat as a child and holding my nose at the smell of the meat on sale. I also used to get scared walking over the sawdust floor, I hated the idea that the wood shavings were covered in animal blood.
As an adult I realise that this is what to expect from a butcher, they are not serving penny chews.
In recent days they have stopped putting sawdust on the floor and the floor is completely clean. This leaves the question, why did they have the sawdust in the first place. Did the sawdust attract blood that otherwise wouldn't be there? Questions like this can make me lose sleep. Coming back after all these years, I was glad that the shop had a cleaner and fresher atmosphere.
They stock a fine selection of meats and have been in business for as long as I can remember. The staff were not too friendly, but the quality of meat made up for this. Visit City Meats for the best meats in the city. read more
