The chicken soup is probably the best I've had anywhere, and I go out of my way to get it when I'm sick. They also have a wide variety of freshly squeezed juices and fresh fruit bowls. They offer a pretty big range of menu options from healthy to greasy, and I can't imagine that anyone could ever leave dissatisfied. It's hard to believe La Fiesta Fruits isn't more popular around lunchtime. It's conveniently located in the West End. It's hard to see, but it's in the same building as Chipotle. If you go through the entrance, Chipotle is on the right, and La Fiesta Fruits is on the left. For some reason, the Chipotle is always packed, but there's never a line at La Fiesta, so I guess that's a bonus. This was one of my lunch staples when I worked downtown. It's definitely worth a try if you work in the area, and you'll kick yourself for not trying it sooner.

I've more often seen the food part of the place referenced as Alejandra's, but technically, all of the food is under the name "Mi Ranchito Farmers Market" and it is open Friday - Sunday 10-4. The farmers market is set up in front of the house, with a pavilion for buying tamales, jarred salsa and jellies, a food truck with elotes, another pavilon with produce, plants, and honey, and a final pavilion that has garden decoration items like chimeneas and metal/ceramic cacti, chickens and flowers. I had the elotes and tamales, all were great! They had chicken, pork and cheese with jalapeno. My favorite was the chicken. Out of an extended menu which includes a variety of both sweet and savory flavors I opted for three. Movie Theater, Dill Pickle, and the Chicago Blend. All three were great but the Chicago Blend captured my heart - a marriage of cheddar and caramel popcorn. Other flavors yet to be tried include, but are not limited to, chocolate cherry, caramel apple, and pina colada. There's also a wide array of both packaged and bulk candy as well as various gift type items. Their website also features item specific to their Lake Highlands neighborhood. Historic Downtown Carrollton has changed A LOT over the years. The area has been completely rejuvenated with a gazebo centerpiece surrounded by more restaurants, bars and modern apartments. With so many changes happening, it's like an adventure each time you walk through. My current local favorites are Babe's Chicken, Twisted Root and Beth's Old Fashioned Ice Cream. In fact, I always make sure to save room for a scoop or two of ice cream after eating at Babe's. They've designated the first Saturday of each month as Small Shop Saturday to encourage locals to get out and support small businesses. I'm sure they will host more events has we get past this pandemic. It's definitely worth the trip if you don't have anything to do for a few hours during the weekend.
