Let's see.. head shop, porno, small amount of convenience food and a lot of Soccer jerseys lined up on the wall. (Oh, and don't forget they do have some international newspapers too.) Interesting business model. Not really my kind of place, but I could see coming here for some Red Bull or Monster energy drinks during a late night of partying. (They keep them cool in the fridge to the right where you walk in.) I get a kind of gritty vibe of an Adams Morgan of yesteryear from this place. (When I say yesteryear I mean like the mid 90's or earlier) It stays open late, like after midnight. I could see how that would come in handy if your hookah pipe or bong breaks during a late party. Or if you run out of specialty tabacco and are jonesing for a fix. Me, I don't smoke tobacco or anything else, but I could understand how someone who did would see this place as a diamond in the ruff. Also, if you do like soccer it is worth coming in to check out the cool soccer jerseys they have on the walls. I could see buying one of those. A uh, charming head / tobacco shop in the middle of Adams Morgan. I don't know much about bongs but they have an extensive selection of them, so I guess there are at least a few diamonds in the rough. However, what's awesome about this place is the fact that they sell Nat Shermans at $10 a pack. Considering these are the finest cigarettes put on this green earth, that's a good deal. They also sell a variety of American Spirits, including the Perique blend which I have a hard time finding elsewhere. Cards are accepted, which is cool (just gotta make at least a $10 purchase). About my only complaint is that they really checked my ID more thoroughly than the TSA does. Serious bidness eh? read more

The biggest head-shop in DC -- that I know of, at least. I first came here my freshman year at Georgetown, when my floormate wanted to buy something called a "bong". What a strange a magical place! I thought upon first entering the door. There's nothing like this in Nebraska. It was the sort of place where I had bad visions of my mom walking in the door and catching me there--a large XXX video section that you have to pay a quarter to enter, and all sorts of baffling looking paraphernalia. Last week I visited this place again, for old time's sake. It hasn't changed much. There are still about thirty varieties of visine across from the cash register, and everything else your small-time black marketeer might need: brass padlocks, digital scales, fruit-flavored rolling papers, etc. Some freshman-aged girls were giggling at a dirty magazine... I bought a tube of toothpaste and headed out the door, but was tempted on the way out to buy a packaged cinammon roll labeled "The Big Texas"...just one of many curiosities to be found in this shop. Would be five stars for pure fascination/seediness factor, but the prices here are too high. read more

I can't believe this place only has 5 reviews. This is my favorite place in Adams Morgan. I don't have much of a reason why, except for the chilled out vibe of the place, the dudes that work there have best friend-potential (the only way I can describe them - think Cheech / Chong) and it's the closest thing to a bodega in New York (minus a larger food selection) that I've seen around here. They have a pretty extensive selection of pipes, Zippos, etc. I went up to the register to buy screens for my pipe, and to my left I saw a closed off area with a sign in the front - $1 admission. My six foot friend looked over the divider and asked, "Hey, do you want a vibrating egg?" You get the idea. read more

REASON FOR COMING: To purchase a hookah. THE STORE: Small and smelly. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Horrible. Before I could even ask about the products, I was asked to show my ID which I left in my car. After running back to grab it and return, I could only ask one question about a hookah before the staff member pointed to the 'you break you buy it' sign. Why would I spend $90+ on a hookah I can't even touch before buying? I don't know much about hookah and neither did they - or so it seemed based on the lack in help. If you're uneducated on hookahs and other products they sell here, go elsewhere. They aren't very helpful. PRICING: Overpriced. OVERALL: This place is outdated and the products are expensive. Uhhh.....hmm....OK, I gave this place 3 stars because the cigarette selection is pretty decent as well as the beverage section. They have Cokes in a glass bottle made with REAL sugar (imported from Mexico) which is practically the ONLY way I'll drink a Coke-a-Cola these days. As previously mentioned, they do have futbol jerseys hanging on the wall that you may puchase along with little novelty flags from various South and Central American countries. Was pleased to see that they had an Argentina flag as it is hard to find. The "head shop" in the front of the story had cheesy, over priced pipes , grinders etc. Capitol Hemp is a MUCH better bet for that stuff. The adult section of the store has $1 admission but they give you your $$ back if you make a purchase from that area. Truth be told, I'd never step foot back there for the simple fact they have a sign that states they'll buy any USED adult magazie or novels for twenty five cents. Yuck. I really like B&K. The staff is friendly and always willing to help. While I do think their Starbuzz is overpriced, you pay for convenience. They have a large selection of beautiful hookahs, among other accessories. They offer some basic convenience store products, as well, but I go here mainly to gaze at the gorgeous hookahs and maybe buy some Starbuzz. read more

Large selection but no-nothing staff. I went in to buy my first vape pen type thing. The staff could explain how it worked but not much else. There are a ton of different ways now to smoke. If you know what you want, or you just want a pipe or a bong, then you'll find it here but if you want to get some deeper advice about the range of products out there and how their products fit into that larger picture, go somewhere else or buy it online. read more

I purchased a faulty Starbuzz Hookah stick from this store. I used it 3 days after I purchased it to I find out it didn't work, so I called the store and spoke to the Manager, Tony. He tells me that because I purchased it three days ago there's nothing he could do AND THEN told me he didn't believe me. NEVER AGAIN will I purchase anything from this store. Terrible customer service and over priced. You're better off ordering online or finding another store with reasonable prices and reasonable staff. read more

When I think about what Times Square must have been like in the 60s and 70s this is pretty much it. This really is a one-stop-shop and you need to go check it out. The staff is attentive since most things need to be unlocked for you to get your hands on them. It's a buck to enter the back area and I haven't really been in there, yet. I didn't see any bowling pin tobacco pipes but they have tons of others, it's actually impressive. A little pricey but what can you do. This is the type of place where you could probably get a toe by 3 o'clock, with nail polish but that's only speculation. read more

Just stopped thru here and realized I've come by this store before for cigarettes and juice and didn't even notice the hookah and pipes. I got a pretty nice/med size hookah for 40 bucks, two packs of shisha, charcoal, lighter and juice for less than 60 bucks. Yes they do have do not touch signs everywhere but that's for your safety as they have slot of glassware in the store and I could only imagine if you break it what would happen. Anyways my hookah came with the bowl, top and hose in a brand new never opened box. I'm good to go. Really glad I stopped by this location and I found perfect street parking for a quick in and out. read more

Quite possibly the seediest place in Adams Morgan. Now it's up to you if you like that or not. With the major renovations that are hitting the AM area now it's nice to have a reminder of the pre-gentrified environment. The man is rarely rude, only when my friend snapped a photo of the water pipes. The prices are high, yes, but you're in the middle of DC with crazy high rates and he carries just about everything. I've been here a bunch of times, always have to see what's new when I roll though, though I rarely buy anything. His cigar selection isn't huge but when a craving hit me it was a nice change from something a CVS might offer and turned out to be an alright smoke. Apparently there's an XXX section in the back, I've never heard of this before but I might bring some friends here and check it out. First i called to see if the store had any Hookah tips in stock and the guy on the phone stated he did for .25 cents each ( i've found them for .10 cents, but i needed them tonight). Once i got to the store the supply for Hookah was very selective and stocked. Not only did he have the tips in stock, he had two types which was helpful cause all Hookahs aren't the same. My favorite go-to store for shisha tobacco and charcoals, but it carries just about everything in the book. Right smack in the middle of Adams Morgan, which can be good or bad depending on when you go and where you live. It's always busy as it should be since it carries everything and anything. I go there for my hookah tobacco (shisha) but they have a lot more for the regular smoker (Zippo lighters, ash trays, and some glass pieces for those who are privy to that kind of lifestyle). They also carry a lot of incense flavors that I usually buy, as well as some snacks and beverages. They have every kind of cigarettes you need as well as tobacco if you roll your own. They also offer various international items (newspapers, novelty flags and jerseys from Central and South America, and other chatskys). The back of the store is another story, so I won't go there, since I've never been back there... The prices are moderate but that's understandable because of the prime location. I love the owner and the two gentlemen who are always working there when I visit who help me find my favorite shisha flavor (Blue Mist) and even offered to come get my credit card from me outside when I couldn't find parking once (they never did...I ended up finding parking :) ) They are so friendly and always recognize me when I come in. They also don't mind my conversational Spanish and help me practice and offer help with my grammar, etc when that's not something people usually do. All in all, this place is one of my favorite tiendas in DC and is a must-see/to-do for those who haven't been. read more

I've frequented most of the cigar shops in DC and Georgetown trying to find the most affordable, well-cared for, and tasty cigars. The selection at B&K is plentiful and affordable. Just two doors down from B&K is a store with a large neon sign in the window that says CIGARS. Don't go there - their humidor isn't' always set right and a simple Punch cigar will cost you a pretty penny and they don't take credit cards. B&K will receive your credit cards with a ten dollar minimum purchase, which is perfect when you're there to buy two. What's more the staff is helpful - but they respect that you know what you're looking for in size, taste and expectation - and they are happy to assist you as well as stay out of your way. If nothing else, and you are from out of town looking for an excellent news stand where they offer bongs, porn, tea shirts, tobacco, candles, incense - or an ice cream bar - you should stop by and visit B&K to see the goodies. It's a fun little spot in the heart of the vibrant and cultural Adams Morgan neighborhood. You'll like it. read more

I like this place. The staff is very friendly and they carry a wide variety of hookah products. I like that they have Coconara charcoal and their prices are good. I am hooked on these coconut hookah charcoals and before B & K start carrying them I used to buy them online. I don't mind and sometimes I can get them for cheaper prices, especially when they are running a promotion, but the convenience of walking down to the store and pick them up is priceless. If this wasn't the only place I know about in DC that sells glass bowls I would never come here. The selection is pretty terrible and the prices are a bit high. I recently bought a piece here and when I asked the guy if he'd take a couple bucks less for it (typical haggling) he got offended and went on this long winded tyrade about how tobacco products are taxed and that they aren't making any money blah blah blah (could've just said no). After the rude rebuttle I ended up buying the thing anyways (like I said, I don't know anywhere else around here). I didn't inspect the piece as thoroughly as I should've in the store as I made the assumption that it was new, but when I got home I noticed that there were a number of chips in the piece as well as a chunk of glass that appeared to have been reglued into place. When I prodded it a little bit with my finger it popped right out. Problem is that I had already smoked some tobacco out of it by the time I noticed the chips and broken part making it unreturnable. Don't Buy Here. I'll make the trip up to baltimore next time I need to go to a head shop. read more

I just had the most appalling experience at B&K Newsstand. I was walking past and stopped in to pick up a cleaning dowel which was 3.50. I didn't want to break a dollar so I said to the employee. "You're asking 3.50 for this, would you accept 3 dollars?". He snatched the dowel out of my hand, and said "I'll keep my product". I responded by telling him "there's no need to be rude, I'll pay the 3.50" He proceeded to rudely tell me that i should have said "will you please make me a deal on this", RIDICULOUS and PETTY. I paid the asking price grabbed my merchandise, said "you can keep the change" and headed for the door, and then. He yelled out "I don't need your pennies" and threw the change at my back as I crossed the threshold of the door into the street. If you're ever looking for the worst, rudest, customer service and looking to be Physically Assaulted by a cashier. This is the place for you.
