I phoned Parkhill nurseries and spoke to Mr Barry mcGillivray the owner who explained that their Rowan trees only survive if planted in their own specialised compost, this was not explained to us in any way before we purchased the trees. I found Mr McGillvray's attitude to be bombastic, aggressive and very defensive. My advice would not be to buy Rowan trees from this supplier. Very disappointed. J Rennie

The garden centre isn't that big in itself but it utilises the space very well. It has the usual inside section which can be quite gifty and the larger outdoor area for the vast variety of flowers they have. The new changes include a gorgeous little cafe which has delicious food, snacks, meals, cakes and at not a bad price either. Definately worth a visit, even if you're not into gardening.

Wallpaper was £10 per roll cheaper than in John Lewis and service was great. Shop is in a great location by the harbour so well worth a visit - giftware is really nice too if you are looking for items for the home or as a gift.

I remember buying a Terramundi pot from Ortak for my friends engagement. I really love these pots- such a good idea although you can buy them elsewhere. The selection of silver jewellery attracts me usually. I also like there ornaments, I bought my friend a lovely green frog which she loved. They also have some really nice handmade birthday/anniversary cards that are great if you want something less mainstream. You really pay for what you get here.

You would expect a table for almost £1000 to be at least stable and from a good solid material.. Otherwise, I still love going there time to time even just to have a look and their catalogs are full of inspiration :) Regarding the staff, they are always helpful, polite and not pushy - and that's one of the reasons why I prefer to go there rather than other department stores where you can meet unnecessarily too many employees trying to engage conversation with you. They also operate as a dry cleaning agency and the dry cleaning prices were very competitive. Parking is not a problem and there are lots of other lovely shops in the area.

The cafe was a trip down memory lane for me. The others had enormous scones, I had a HUGE girdle scone (jist like Grunny's) with jam and a massive home made fudge biscuit which was to die for. All washed down with a pot of tea, magic. The garden centre itself is the best I've seen, it's spotless, so well organised and well stocked up. If you're in the Banchory area 'nip in' for a cuppa!
