By far the best gym for powerlifting in the city. No goofy tv's or juice bars. Plenty of platforms and squat racks.

Ask the Community - B&W Gym

Anyone know if/when B&W will be reopening? Need to get my pump on!

Do you guys let 14 year olds to your gym?

Not totally sure about that but if you call and ask Dennis Brady he'll be able to tell you for sure

Also, unlike other gyms that have tricks and fees and make you jump through hoops to cancel or change your membership, EFC is very customer-centric. No tricks, no hoops to jump through. Good gym culture. People re-rack their weights and wipe down machines. Very happy here.

If you have never considered working out with a personal trainer, I highly recommend it. I was skeptical at first but quickly found what a great motivator it is to have someone expecting you at the gym and there to lend their expertise and undivided attention. Once they get to know your limits you will have the best workouts of your life. We never challenge ourselves as much as a professional who knows what we can do and can't do. There are many group classes however, I've only taken advantage of the candle-light yoga, which is something else that previously was not in my comfort zone but have really enjoyed.

He was always willing to loan me a towel every time I visited. - The swim program is setup every well! It took me a few rounds to land a spot because it's very competitive but it was worth the wait. The instructors are very knowledgeable and helped me feel more comfortable in the water. Cons: - The pool is cleaned monthly and you can really see the difference of it being recently cleaned vs collecting whatever in the pool. - The locker rooms could use an update and a deep cleaning. I wish they had a mix of short lockers with the full sized lockers so we don't have to stuff all of our items into multiple lockers when it gets colder outside.

The staff member who was there when we visited was always friendly and charmed by my little one (not the only reason I liked her!) and always had a mask--in June 2024 when most people have abandoned masking. The location made it near impossible for me to get to swim class so I'm going to have to look for another option, but if it had worked out I would have been happy to continue using this facility.

Great workouts, good equipment, helpful staff and thorough lessons. It doesn't matter your demographics, size or fitness level, they are welcoming to everyone, and as a fat person, I appreciate that there aren't mirrors in the workout area. It's mostly Crossfit-adjacent group classes, but they also offer olympic lifting, personal training, weekend community workouts (a Saturday morning class with Coach Chris is fantastic way to kickoff your weekend / cap off your week), and other small group sessions. I was admittedly worried about going to a Crossfit type gym, they come with a certain reputation, but I look forward to going to the gym frequently and consistently. The culture at the gym is really fantastic, my classmates (and coaches) are encouraging and helpful, and everyone wants to help you do your best given your abilities. It's impossible not to make friends at PXM. Additionally, I came to the gym with a lingering "knee" issue, but with a combination of physical therapy and a lot of individualized attention from the coaches, I'm feeling the best I've felt in years. Senad, one of the owners was extremely helpful at encouraging me to continue to move throughout my recovery. With a lot of support, I was able to continue moving throughout my recovery and I think this helped accelerate my overall recovery timeline. Coach Leah and Coach Matt we really helpful (and incredibly patient with the million questions I asked) in helping me find movements that were supportive and didn't cause pain while still working towards the goal of a specific class. All the coaches are really great at modifying workouts to ensure you are working towards the prescribed movements without risking injury. Most classes offer two tracks, each with modifications, that are designed for folks who either want to do more traditional Crossfit movements and another for folks who are seeking more traditional fitness movements or are working towards being able to do the Crossfit movements. The gym has a general wellness focus, so you can also sign up for nutrition counseling, meal prep kits, massage, etc. I recently signed up for nutrition coaching with Melissa, and I'm learning a lot everyday about what my body needs to fuel itself. If you are looking for a welcoming, inclusive, and fun place to workout, I can't recommend PXM enough.
