The place has a quirky grandma's house feel to it with random things thrown into the decor, like a mannequin bust in the hallway that freaked the bejesus out of me every time I stepped out of the elevator. Aside from that, the staff is friendly and accommodating and recommended a great place to lunch nearby. So all and all, not really my cup of tea in terms of design, but for the price and location, you can't really go wrong.

I put in my room request that I wanted a room with a balcony and it was given to me at no extra charge. The balcony overlooked Gare Lille Flanders and was quite nice. I only wish it was better weather when I was there to be able to enjoy it more. The hotel itself was clean and the bed was fine. Don't expect anything too fancy but everything was fine for my liking. The people working there were extremely nice and accommodating. Even though the hotel is close to bars and train traffic, I had no issue with noise at night. I would stay here again if I go back to Lille.

It means the hotel does what it says on the tin, and I left feeling happy with the service. I really enjoyed my stay with a friend in twin room at this hotel. The location was perfect for our early morning train from Lille Flandres (we could see the station entrance from our window) and the location is also ideal for access to pubs and restaurants. Room was clean and comfortable, as were the toilet and shower. We didn't have much contact with staff but when we did, they were courteous and helpful. Breakfast is expensive, but there are an abundance of places nearby where you can get a nice sitdown breakfast on the main square. Recommended.

The building itself is superb, housed in an old convent on a quiet and attractive quayside not far from the old town. The star attraction is the stunning glass-roofed hotel bar and resturant in the central cloister. Drinks and food prices are above average for Lille but not excessively so. The hotel rooms are large, comfortable and well appointed by 4-star standards, with marble bathrooms, tea and coffee-making facilities and a large flat-screen TV. Perhaps one of the reasons for the mixed reviews is that the Alliance has a prodominantly business clientele and is quite quiet at weekends. Nevertheless, I have no problem recomending it for a tourist stay in the city. The main town square is a 10-minute walk.
