First of all, they always ran out of time. I scheduled all of my incar appointments from 11-1, sometimes the instructor would not be at my school until 1110, and sometimes I would not get back to school until 130, leaving me to miss a lot of class. Secondly, we must discuss Tom. Tom was very weird. Kept calling me "sis" and i'm not the only girl he'd done that too. Weird nudges on the arm. Weird shit like that here and there. He cussed in almost every sentence, and was so rude to me. At one point I had to defend myself just so he'd shut up. I made a minor mistake on the road and he kept bringing it up over and over and said he "didn't understand why i would make a dumb mistake like that." Enrollment uses a remote salesperson after a local assessment, and in our case that created a major disconnect. We expected individualized, interactive instruction. Instead, our son was placed in a small-group setting (up to a 4:1 student-to-tutor ratio) where much of the work consisted of independently completing worksheets while the tutor rotated among students. Parents should also understand the financial commitment before enrolling. In addition to the assessment fee, there is a $250 registration fee, and families are expected to prepay a large tutoring package. We were initially presented with a plan exceeding $10,000 before ultimately enrolling in a package of roughly $3,000. Had the instructional model and financial commitment been clearly explained upfront, we would not have enrolled. Our second session was also impacted by staffing issues while the director was serving jury duty. Our son was overwhelmed by the lack of structure, and the experience highlighted how dependent the center appeared to be on the director's presence. To the local director's credit, she spent considerable time discussing our concerns, was candid about the issues we raised, offered to credit the disrupted session, and ultimately honored the refund provisions of our agreement. Our concerns stemmed primarily from the disconnect between the enrollment process and the day-to-day tutoring experience we encountered. I'm leaving this review in the hopes that other parents can go in more informed than we were.  Before starting with an assessment, make sure you understand what a typical session actually looks like and know all fees and the size of the required prepaid tutoring package.

MIDDLETOWN CHRISTIAN DAYCARE. Our sons were in the "bunnies" room (age 9 months) for 4 days. They…read moremake you fill out an intense stack of paperwork asking for their exact schedule of naps/feeding because they say they will adhere to your schedule. The reality is, they do whatever they want. My boys some days had 1 nap, some days 2 naps, and never at the same time or on their regular schedule. They have a "parents do not cross" line in the classroom, which is a joke- if my kid is screaming their head off- which they were- and you ignore them, I am going to cross your line and get them. On their final day, I could literally hear my son screaming from out in the parking lot when I came for pick up. When I got in the classroom, Miss Rebecca, told me he "just started crying." This child was bright red and blotchy, runny nose, and gasping for breath from crying so hard. He did NOT just start crying. Miss Rebecca said he (my 9 month old son) REFUSED his 11:00am bottle. It was 4:00pm at pick up. A 9 month old going 5 hours without a bottle is insane. Also, dropped the kids off one morning at 7:00am and there was another kid there strapped into a bouncy seat. Around 9:30am we were sent a picture of our kids playing, and that same kid was in the background still strapped into the same seat hours later. When I told them we were not a good fit for their center, threw all the boys belongings into a trash bag and left it at the front desk for me to pick up. When I asked to speak to the director about my experience, I was told she was not available.

The first person I interacted with at KC was their director. She took me on a tour, showing me the infants room and telling me all the great things about KC. It was close to work and the director seemed great and that it why we chose to send our daughter there. Our experience was pretty rough from the start. The baby and I were both getting used to this new routine. I was trying not to be the typical overbearing mother and put my faith in the teachers/caregivers. One of my first negative experiences was in the first or second week there. I knew my daughter had been struggling a bit. I stopped in to see her on my lunch break and spoke with the main teacher and one of her helpers. They made it seem like she cried all day every day. They asked me if she was colicky and what kind of formula I was feeding her, etc. At home my daughter was very happy, slept well and didn't cry a lot at all so I found this conversation very disconcerting. I tried to continue the conversation with the main teacher when I picked up my little one that afternoon, and at that time she made it seem like my daughter was doing great and was totally adjusted to the new environment. This was confusing based on our previous conversation (that had totally stressed me out). I followed this up by emailing the director who never responded. In addition to the awkward, poor communication with the teacher, I had a bad interaction with the co-director. She called me about some paperwork and as I picked up the phone I could hear her complaining about someone (though I never figured out if it was about me or my daughter or sometime else entirely). It was completely unprofessional. In addition to these interactions I saw the infant room over ratio at least a handful times in the two months we were there. There were older infants and toddlers all over the small infants room, exposing the babies to more germs than they should have been (sometimes touching the babies because the teachers couldn't reign them all in). The main teacher seemed very stressed out a lot of the time. Her assistants were never consistent (different people there a lot, at both drop off and pick up). It honestly just felt very chaotic. Now that I've laid out my experience and why we left I will lay out some of the pluses... The teachers and director were very nice. While communication could certainly use improvement I do think they did well under the circumstances. I really liked one of the assistants who I believe worked in the older infants room full time but helped in the small infants room in the morning. KC (or at least this location) also provides their own diapers and wipes, which was pretty big perk. They also provided formula if you didn't mind to ask them for it (you still have to bring the formula home and prepare bottles every day). And they work with many companies to give an employee discounts. I'm sure childcare is an extremely challenging field to work in. I didn't walk away with any personal negative feelings for the people who work here. A lot of the challenges we faced are likely typical of any childcare organization. But I wanted a smaller, calmer environment and more personal care for my daughter so for us KC didn't work out.

So I found this kindercare, and I'm honestly soooo happy things worked out the way they did, they classrooms are spacious, they offer more activities and things to do, and their playground looks super fun, my kids have never been in daycare and I was nervous but they settled all that and now I'm super confident and excited for my kids to be going here! I'll have a infant and toddler there. Very organized and clean and spacious.
