I needed a locksmith to help me in switching out all the locks of a family member's house after a move. Ben was able to come on a Saturday and he was efficient and very friendly. He also dealt with some unforeseen issues with the doors. One had a fake deadbolt, he made it functional. One door had a "too large" gap between the door and door jamb, he put in two plates to "thicken" the area for a more secure lock. If we could give Ben more than 5 stars, we would. Our 20 year old Weslock lock on the front door had failed and could not be fixed. When Ben saw the lock and the door, he 1. recommended that we do not replace the Weslock part that failed with a similar Weslock part because Weslock is now made in China and fail very fast 2. told us that the holes made for the Weslock lock do not line up with any of the current locks. 3. said that he would do his best to make the transition to a new lock transparent. And he did! He found the closest match Schlage locks and aligned them to the existing holes on the door so that it is barely apparent that the locks were changed and that the new locks were drastically different from the old ones. Previously, Ben had re-keyed some other locks for us, and very kindly adjusted to our schedule and worked on a Saturday. Prices are fair. BA Locksmith is a local Castro Valley small business and we were not only happy to give him our business, but also extremely pleased with the work he did for us. We highly recommend him. read more

Very professional, knowledgeable and expedient locksmith. I was speaking with a customer service associate at Home Depot regarding a door latch that was slightly shy of the length it needed to be, and too long if extended. I was asking if there were alternative sizes, and if not, if he could recommend a solution. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to offer any additional knowledge outside of what I had already known. Ben happened to overhear the conversation and offered a couple of options to try. In addition, he gave me his number and said if the options didn't work or if I had any questions, to give him a call and he would be happy to help. Needless to say, the following morning, bright and early, I reached out to Ben and asked for his expertise. He was at my home within 2 hours of my call. Not only did he install the original locking door knob I was having challenges with, but he also replaced my front door dead bolt, door fixture, and made a 3rd key for the entry door on the spot! We had lost all the keys to our mailbox so our only option was to get the lock changed. I found BA Locksmith through Yelp and decided to give them a call. I am very happy with Ben and his work. I highly recommend BA Locksmith. My story: We have a front door lock that is over 20 years old. My daughter was accidently locked out and my son contacted a "locksmith" through the yellow pages. They came and drilled out the lock - but did not fix or repair it - and they charged an exorbitant amount for 5 minutes work. That's why it's good to use Yelp instead of the yellow pages! I spent a lot of time trying to find a replacement lock that would fit. Schlage itself couldn't help. But, Ben immediately recognized the kind of lock - and knew what it would take to fix it. He arrived on time, replaced the cylinder and keyed it to match our deadbolt. And Ben was able to fashion a critical missing part from what he had in his truck. Ben came over to help us repair the knob. Just from the style and the brand name, he knew what's the problems might be with our door lock. Ben efficiently repaired our knob with a reasonable price. In the meantime, he answered our questions regarding door safety alternatives (key bumping, door bar etc). He help us checked the length of the screws drove into the wall from the plate, and found that its just the standard installation screws (which only get into the stud about 1/4 inch, not secure enough to hold any forced entrance). He replaced it with 3 inches screws to increase the security of the deadbolt. He has done a job above and beyond our expectations. We highly recommend his services. read more

When my lock (deadbolt) stopped working on my apartment and I got locked out of my house with two young kids in tow, I was stressed out, to put it lightly. My landlord called up Ben and let him know I had an emergency. Ben came as quickly as he could after he finished another job. He checked out the lock and found that it needed to be replaced, so he drilled it out and replaced it with a new lock that he had rekeyed to match my key. He had everything he needed to do that with him. The drilling made a mess and he asked for a broom to clean it up. Now that might not be a big deal to you, but I had a handyman do work on my place and leave all the mess behind for me to clean up! So I was really grateful that he did it. I also mentioned another issue to him with the security gate that my landlord had failed to mention and he fixed that right up for me too so now I can use my gate again! Ben was very friendly and I didn't feel uncomfortable having him in my home even though I was by myself with my two daughters. Would absolutely recommend him! read more
