I must endeavour to find a cookbook and rediscover the lost art of knowing exactly what you are eating. That said, when food tastes as good as it does from Lahori Kebabish I'd just say put the whisk and chopping board away my friends. I don't think its been here very long but me and my friends discovered this the other week - we were cruising around in my friend's car looking for somewhere we could grab some food. You see, after a few bad run ins with waiting forever for home delivery, we prefer to take matters into our own hands. Lahori Kebabish is pretty good value for money - for under a tenner, you get three different curries plus loads of pilau rice etc. With cheap prices comes mediocre tastes but we were all plesantly surprised. We'll definitely be trying here again for the next film night - good food to share/ mix and match.

The menu is extensive and covers many mediterranean classics as well as a large choice of curries, karahis, biriyanis, steaks, vegetarian options and even a kid's menu. It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside the decor is modern and clean and the service is quick, even quicker if you're purchasing the faster items. Kebabish also delivers, but only until midnight so eat before you drink! Cheap and good value, especially as it's BYOB.

Firstly, it's really well set up for groups so look into it if you have a work/bday type do. There were about 15 of us and ordering and food delivery went extremely smoothly. They have a two course deal for £19.50 with loads of great options - I obviously had the mezze platter to start and the meat platter for my main. Both tasty although I might go for one of the other starters next time as lots of the mezze elements were great but you don't get that much of each because the overall portion is so generous (i.e. this isn't really a complaint). The meat I thought was a very high standard, I enjoyed every element. Nice condiments accompanying it too. We were a little late to arrive so the entertainment (live singing) started while we were still eating - this made it impossible to chat so they might want to consider better volume control depending on what stage people are at with their night. However the entertainment was in general great - not the best belly dancer I've ever seen but very enthusiastic. The waiters also danced which was hilarious (note: some of them quite fit) and then they got everyone in the restaurant holding hands kicking randomly not-so-Turkish-style. I think this was the juncture at which my friend who knows I yelp turned to me and held up five fingers. Finally there was some DJing and we were dancing until at least 1am (and I'm sure if we'd wanted to stay out longer than would have been welcomed). Hilarious and fantastic range of songs from current top 10 to Spice Girls Wannabe and a whole load of other cheesy classics. I danced like nobody was watching. Unfortunately a large number of my work colleagues were watching and some of them had cameras. Overall if you're looking for something sophisticated/upmarket it's clear from all the reviews this isn't the place but if you're a group and want a bit of a laugh with some decent good value food this is ideal.

The best bits! 1. Tasty food and as much as you could consume in one seating - I only had 2 plates of mains and one of dessert but I seriously was struggling to breathe afterwards (in fact I couldn't even finish my pint in the next bar I was that full!) 2. There were some tasty Turkish treats but it was very international with all sorts - the lasagna was particularly enjoyable. £10.90 wasn't a bad price to pay for it. 3. The desserts were ace - profiteroles were so so so good! The bit's which let it down slightly 1. The beer selection was pretty lame with just generic lagers on sale - I only drank half of my Efes beer which looked like the best bet. No craft beer or ales. 2. The atmosphere was a bit lacking considering the buzz is that it's electric at the weekends - maybe they could do with adding something in the week! 3. I thought it was a bit (a big bit) of cheek putting a 10% service charge on our bill seeing as it was a buffet - I've seen some strange things in my life and this goes up there in the WTF stakes! Overall an enjoyable night out with friends but I'd struggle to five it a 4 on this visit.

Review from The Chiliman - L'Hombre Chile : 06/06/11…read more Roti and Boti - a new cafe on the block - and a real spicy treat - a must for all fans of the curry cafe's - this one is up there with best !! Its just near Top Quality - and is based in the aame place where Bawadi used to be. I've been going to the real curry cafe's and kebab houses of Manchester for many years - favourites over this time being : The Shalimar of Back Turner Street (sadly now gone - oh those pillowly naans...), The Chandni (sadly also now gone - the mixed kebabs were an adventure ), The Sajan Original (Rusholme) - best kebabs in town , Top Quality ( a hidden gem - the Friday selections are sheer manna!!) and The Al Fajsal (great lamb tikka - just simple with lemon and salad - super tasty ) and may others too numerous to mention ! I've been to Roti and Boti ( R and B) four or five times now and it's highly recommended to all lovers of spicy curry treats and kebabs - for these main reasons : 1. The Biryani is TOP - a real mark of a good place is the biryani - you wont be disapointed here - lovely tasty, melt in the mouth spicy lamb, light basmati, good heat - a real corker for the biryani savourers out there - wrap your chops around some Roti and Boti today ! 2. The Ckicken Shish kebab with Seek kebab are among the best I've ever had - and believe me - The Chiliman has had a few over the decades - salad and sauces are fresh and freely available - including Taramind - nice touch which adds a sublime sourness to the ensemble which almost sent my taste buds to chile heaven and back again via the spicy highway of splat central ! 3. The breads are fresh and the naans pillowy.... truly lovely..with a nice bit of ghee on top - the way they should be - a good L'Hombre tip x 4. The place itself is newly done out , clean and relaxing - better than some of the - lets face it folks - dives which can be found !! 5. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful - apparently the owner has worked in Rusholme for 20 years - so he knows his curry's ! trust the Chileman here ! 6. The price is very reasonable indeed and the dishes good value. Do yourself a favour and get yourself to Roti and Boti today - this place dererves to do well - from L'hombre Chile.........06/06/11- if you love curry amd kebabs - you wont be disapointed !

For £3, really cheap too. Although I think they do hike this upto £5 at Pride. There's a few tables available to eat your food immediately if not carrying it home. The chipped Formica tables have seen better days, but at these prices it wouldn't be fair to complain!! There's also a good selection of Middle Eastern food and Pizzas. Recommended!

Flatbread for the wrap looked to be khoubz from a packet and warmed up on the chargriller. The falafel seemed fresh enough. On these two points, this places Safad slightly behind Atlas Shawarma where the bread is fresh naan and also I always see the falafel being made to order at Atlas. Safad's trimmings such as hummus, tabbouleh and yoghurt mint sauce are above average, but still suffer from the unwritten law that kebabs shops must use only iceberg lettuce and pale tomatoes. But my overall verdict is that £3 is outstanding value for a substantial, freshly-made lunch. The décor is well-worn vinyl on the floor, formica tables etc. But for me is the integrity and warmth of the staff, plus the predominantly Arab clientele which give Sadaf a charm which beats many flashier places. I would definitely go back for falafel or maybe a pizza.
