There was a good selection of restaurants there, and definitely lots of happy hour choices, but nothing intrigued us. My Mom was after veggies, so I Yelped for Chinese food. There was only a few selections (only a handful of people use Yelp here). The one we chose was closed for a month for family holiday. Luckily, while I was driving to check out another spot, I came across an entire street of Chinese restaurants (Amohau St, Rotorua). There was 3 to be exact and we wandered into each one to have a peek at their menu. We chose to eat at Golden BBQ Seafood Restaurant and I'm super gad we did! The restaurant was well lit and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful. The dishes were a good sized proportion. We ordered 2 dishes with a bowl of rice and were super stuffed after. 1. Four Season Green Beans w/ Beef & Mushrooms 2. House Special Deep Fried Tofu w/ Green Onions Everything was DELICIOUS!! Being Cantonese myself, I must say, they had their flavors on point! Bravo. We started our lunch outside, enjoying the sun and the view on Macau's nice terrace. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and it started to pour once we had started our mains. The staff was very friendly and moved all our dishes and drinks inside before anything got wet. In the end it wasn't too bad as the restaurant's decor is really cool. I really liked the origami graphic chart used throughout, from the menus to the toilet signs. But most importantly, the food was great! My salt & pepper soft shell crab was served on a nice salad. It definitely was missing salt, and some kind of fat. I added a bunch of hot sauce and soy sauce to mine to make it a little more flavorful. Fortunately, everything else was so yummy that I would easily come back and try something else! We saw so many other delicious plates go out and wanted to try everything. I thought the location was pretty good and the atmosphere was inviting. That's about as good as it got for us, sadly. There was no indoor seating, so we were relegated to sitting in the outdoor area. The staff members were friendly, but the service was intolerably slow (so much so that we almost left before our food arrived) and not particularly attentive (took ages to get someone's attention). I asked our server for the password to the free WiFi. She didn't know. Had to wait in line (again) to ask for the password (then had trouble connecting - not worth the effort at all). The food was OK. It wasn't terrible, but nothing to write home about either. I was somewhat disappointed with the range of food options available (both for the kids and adults). It might be worth a second try in a pinch, but I'm in no rush to return.
