This was followed by a 3 course meal that included duck and a lemon tart. Every bite was delicious. Chez Charlotte makes you feel as though you've been invited to someone's home for dinner. An antique wooden bar fills the back wall while tables are placed along the large windows and everyone has a view of the kitchen. I could view the kitchen from where I sat which allowed me to see all the chef who created my fabulous meal. I highly recommend a visit if you are traveling through this lovely wine country village.

He came back twice after. I finally liked the third one! My husband went with the second one, because he was feeling bad sending this guy running back and forth downstairs for wine, but he actually preferred the third one as well. See pic. The menu is limited and changes daily. We shared two appetizers and two entrees. Everything was so fresh and healthy. We opted against dessert since we had picked up the local famous cookies earlier. Service was excellent, from the guy I presume to be the owner. There is one chef downstairs cooking everything. Seems there are locals that stop for lunch at the bar area in the first level. They have one bathroom for customers, it is clean and well stocked. There is some parking - there is a cafe across the street that has two spots. However, it's a narrow street so you'd be safer to park further and walk here. I don't believe there is an elevator so the limited mobility folks would have to stay on the first floor. There is no ADA accessible ramp. You could probably get food to go if you were unable to get inside. This was a refreshing break from the typical cuisine we were having all week. I would eat here again. I love that they have a rotating, quality focused menu.

They serve a daily menu, but they are happy to accommodate. I specified we were vegan when we made the reservation, and we were happy to have an app and a main offered. The tofu stir fry with fresh salad was absolutely delicious, as was the fried zucchini appetizer. Don't sleep on this family-run establishment!

I've had a fair amount of tacos living in France over the last year - a "French taco" not a…read more"Mexican taco", much to my chagrin. French tacos are like a grilled burrito, filled with your choice of meat, sauce (mostly cream based, and/or cheese), and fries. Not really your healthiest meal, but still tasty, cheap, and filling. The tacos here are French tacos, and not Mexican tacos. We were looking for food before getting on a 2 hour train, and this was one of the few places open on a Sunday (welcome to France) and we only had 15-20 to get something to go, so tacos worked well. This whole area seems fairly quiet and not heavily trafficked -- so not quite sure how fresh the meat and food are here, with not a ton of turnover. We opted for a bruschetta and a taco, but I would just stick to the tacos, I didn't care for the bruschetta. We got the bruschetta which I wouldn't recommend - we go the BBQ flavor, which was a piece of bread, smeared with BBQ sauce, a lot of ground beef, a slice of turkey or ham, and a ton of mozzarella cheese on top. It was a bit messy to eat, so don't get this if you're going to eat it outside of the restaurant or planning to take it on the train. I wouldn't get this again - I much preferred the taco. You can pick the size of taco that you want, with your choice of meats - as you go up in size (and price), you can pick an additional meat to add. We got chicken and ground beef with a harissa sauce which was a good combo. It had fries and either cheese or creme fraiche inside and was pretty rich and carb-heavy. I liked it, but if you're trying to eat healthy, this should not really be your choice. The taco was grilled and kept warm in the foil for 15 min or so while we walked to the train station, so it's a good choice if you want something to eat as you're walking or in transit. I didn't think any of the meats were of particularly great quality - it felt a bit cheap and greasy, but you get what you pay for I suppose. I don't know if I would come here again - it was fine for something quick and easy, but I've had better "tacos" in France. This is fine if there's nothing open and you're hungry and want something inexpensive, but it's nothing I'd necessarily go back for.

While others didn't speak highly of the decor, I think it was fine for the casual dining atmosphere. Plus the energy was good! The place really picked up at 7:30 on a Monday evening.

To start things off, my wife and I walked up to the property and were greeted with metal plaques on the stone pillars of the gate with Bernard Magrez's name along with La Grande Maison's two Michelin stars. We then walked through the circle driveway and were instantly greeted by the doorman, welcoming us to La Grande Maison. He politely asked for the name on our reservation, and then relayed that information to the hostess via his headseat, so that when we walk through the door, our hostess can greet us as if we have met before. We hadn't even been seated yet, but the attention to detail and customer service was very impressive. After we were seated and were given the rundown by the various members of the dinner staff, we decided to order the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Before even starting the first course however, we were treated to a whole spread of amuse-bouches, with the standout being a Vesper Martini in gelatin form, served over ice in a martini glass. We were then provided an incredible assortment of breads; mini baguette, brioche, and a unique seaweed bun. The 6 courses were all very good, but there were a few really outstanding courses. The first course was a bed of Aquitane caviar on top of a platform of foie gras, accompanied by a grey shrimp infusion on the side. This dish was ridiculous in it's richness, smoothness, and balance. The second course was asparagus with an herb crust and a morel mushroom sauce layered over the top. I had never had asparagus done in such an intricate way, and the mushroom sauce had a meaty and luxurious taste to it. I was surprised to see eel as the fourth course, but our waiter explained that the Sous Chef was from Japan and that this was his expression on a plate. I thought it was a very nice touch to take a bit of a risk and allow the Sous Chef to exercise his creativity. Also, the wine pairings were very good and our sommelier also explained a bit of history behind each selection. These details helped to enhance our experience that much more. To finish the dinner, the last course was the Grand Dessert, which was actually seven different small desserts. All of the desserts were very good, with some being unorthodox combinations; such as a maceration of strawberries and red bell pepper, topped with an orange sugar sheet. I also ordered a glass of A.E. Dor Cognac, which the sommelier helped guide me to. After we finished our meal, the staff assisted in getting us a taxi, and caringly saw us off. On the way back to the hotel, my wife and I could not stop talking about the amazing experience we just had. Definitely one of our best memories in Bordeaux.
