There's the main room in the middle that's the most beautiful one and 2 more on either side of it that are nice, but not as impressive. That being the case, the main room is packed and the only open seating we found was in one of the less pretty rooms off to the side. It's nice that you don't have to go through the entire V&A museum to get access to the cafe, although we did go through a small part of the Buddhist section. I liked that, though, because we still got a taste of the museum. We came around 1 hour to closing, 4pm, so there weren't long lines to get our food. It's cafeteria style and the 2 stalls I saw facing each other were selling the same thing. We got to try scones for the first time which I liked better than the mango & raspberry cake I also ordered which was too sweet. The prices are reasonable. For 2 desserts and 2 drinks between 2 people it came to around $22 total, so around $11 each. Even the bathroom was nice, but I noticed they made the majority of the stalls and sinks available to the public be the more modern ones while the really pretty old fashioned one only had a few stalls. Afterwards, we wandered into the central courtyard and admired the architecture. Overall, it was a good experience. Just don't expect to sit in the really pretty main room, which is why I went there in the first place and I'm sure many other people do, too.

I did add on an Earl Grey tea which was able to get a few cups out of and the tea itself was strong especially leaving the teabag in. It came with an assortment of pastries with jam and clotted cream. It was a lot of delicious sweets and was enough to share, but I did get my own and enjoyed all of them. I'm not sure if this is something Burr and Co does occasionally, but I found it a great way to enjoy afternoon tea at a reasonable price.

It seemed like a work in progress, but I decided to give it a try. The staff are members of an Italian family, from near Rome. The cafe has a pleasant, slightly chaotic atmosphere. I found a table and settled in, ordered some coffee, and kept an open mind. Since this shop is in a "developing" part of Spitalfields, a few blocks south of the market, I wasn't sure what to expect. It turns out I discovered a place that fits the intangible profile of what I like: independent stance, its own atmosphere, definitely not your typical coffeeshop. The best thing to do is kick back, do your thing, and watch the proceedings over the top of your laptop screen or book. From time to time characters walked in and spoke to the owner and other customers about politics, business, whatever. Sometimes even in English. At one point someone pulled up in a Lamborghini and gave the owner's child a ride around the block, I think. They make food there, and they sell coffee beans, and grind them to your specification. They'll ask you what you like in your coffee, suggest a blend, and even write down the percentages in a little book in case you like it and want to re-order again next time. I came away thinking this place has a certain attitude and character. I hope they keep it that way. (The name stands for "fazenda", which means farm or plantation in portuguese, and "uk" which stands for... well, you know.)

He laughed. I paid. I went off happy. Fazenda UK is an independent café and coffee roaster located just off Petticoat Lane market and a few blocks south of Spitalfields market. Despite being located near two very bustling places, the street the café is on is nice and quiet. The café itself is somewhat new, but the Italian family running it seem to have been in the business for quite a few years now. In addition to coffee, Fazenda UK also sells an assortment of home-made cakes and pastries (of which the staff are justifiably proud), as well as soup and sandwiches. I'd recommend the cherry tart if it's available. There's also a small deli in the café. There's a very cosy, homely feel to the café which I like. The walls lined with bags of coffee beans are oddly comforting. Plus, I love the smell of coffee beans and freshly ground coffee. The only thing is that the chairs seemed a little low, and just about did my back in after I had been sitting for close to an hour. This is one of the few places which opens on Saturdays when the markets aren't trading. Of course, there's a reason why shops around this area don't traditionally open on Saturdays, and the owner mentioned that they may revisit their decision to do so in the near future. There's free wi-fi available here if you're looking for somewhere to recharge and reconnect with the outside world. Otherwise, just take a seat, order a coffee, enjoy a home-made cake or three, and relax.
