This time I opted to visit Saunacuse for a little sauna time and self-care. Located in the Dietz Lantern Factory building, Saunacuse is a nicely laid out sauna studio that provides an infrared sauna experience + chromotherapy options. When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by a friendly member of the staff, asked if it was my first infrared sauna experience, and was then asked what colors I'd like to utilize for my chromotherapy option. Unlike with my experience at Lumos (where you're able to change the chromotherapy settings yourself - and I utilized 3 chromotherapy colors during my 45 minutes, 15 minutes each), the staff person introducing you to the sauna space sets your chromotherapy colors before your sauna time begins. Personally, I like having the option to control my chromotherapy color options... though I understand they set the colors for you because it's generally more beneficial to utilize 1 or 2 chromotherapy colors for your sauna session, rather than having multiple colors for a shorter period of time. With my red (activates the circulatory and nervous systems) and orange (helps address asthma and bronchitis) chromotherapy options ready to go, the staff person noted the timer for my session, lavender cloth for after my sauna, where to drop all towels once the sauna time was completed, and so on. All very helpful info... and, once ready, I hopped in the sauna with my coconut water (brought my own because you should always be sure to hydrate!) and enjoyed my 45 minutes of detoxifying bliss. Additional note: there are definitely some wins for this space by comparison to other locations. At Lumos, for example, each sauna was located in a room that didn't have full walls around it / had an open top. Saunacuse has their saunas in individual rooms, so you are buffered from outside sound... definitely appreciated as I'm enjoying my sweaty zen. All in all, very happy with my infrared sauna experience at Saunacuse... and I'd like to give it a 4.5 rating, but opted to round down because I just couldn't quite round up to a 5/5 review. I would certainly recommend it though and fully expect to make return visits!

I appreciate how clean the saunas are and the attentiveness of the staff. I really only come here when they're running specials as their regular pricing is a bit high for my liking. I can only withstand 30 min sessions as I sweat my ass off. They have music you can play inside the booth and it's relaxing. Love the lavender washcloth provided afterwards. Stay hydrated!

We likely were their last massage of the day. We arrived early and mentioned it was our first time. The lady from the front showed us to the sunroom and locker room and personally showed me to my locker. She did not mention there is a sauna available without a special reservation. I unfortunately didn't see anyone around after our service to ask. I asked afterwards when we paid . This was quite disappointing, considering there's no hot tub for relaxing before a massage other than sitting in the sunroom on the lovely warm salt lamp for your feet. The massage was great. Be sure to ask for the scalp massage. The menu said online that with the 80 minute massage it was included, but I didn't receive one. I did ask for targeted service (neck etc) so perhaps that replaced the time. Enjoy post service bubbly in your robe in the sunroom! TLDR: ask for sauna location if you're unfamiliar. Consider booking before 5pm for best service.

If anything, my son and I enjoyed reading about the different colors the water could change to determine what might be being detoxed. I gave that a try with their bogo offer. And honestly, if you can deal with a Rochester winter, you can cold plunge. I'm trying it to see if it helps with muscle aches, etc and while it's too soon to tell. I do feel more awake on the days I've come in. While the saunas have a speaker you can plug your phone into, I'd suggest bringing headphones if you're going to cold plunge or contrast (which is going back and forth between the sauna and the plunge). They do provide a plastic bag for wet if needed. And plenty of towels. I would prefer having a clock of some kind on the wall instead of the portable timers but I get how others might not like that. Plenty of parking in the parking lot. And they have various membership packages.

I am a recent concert to infrared saunas and did a quick search and found this place close by. Right by Bushnell's Basin in Pittsford. Don't let the sterile exterior of the building deter you. Evelyn, the owner and massage therapist is incredibly welcoming. The infrared sauna set up is so lovely, down to the last detail: an assortment of books, water, warm towels and a wide selection of robes! There is also an option to sauna with friends, though I'm more of a solo sauna-er. This was my first visit to an infrared sauna. I arrived a bit early for my appointment, but was welcomed warmly by Rachel, one of the owners of the studio. After I filled out some quick paperwork, Rachel then gave me an explanation of what differentiates infrared saunas, including the related healing benefits. We walked back to sauna room #4, where Rachel then explained the space, how the sauna worked (temperature control, changing the chromotherapy lights, etc), and noted the available robe for my in-sauna time, as well as the cool, lavender scented cloth available to use at the end of my experience. She did note that in room #4, the speaker available inside the sauna (if you were to plug in your phone or such to play music) was prone to making white noise when "on" but not in use. I definitely turned off the speaker during my time in the sauna. There was a laminated sheet in the sauna room that explained the different chromotherapy colors and what benefits they provided, all of which was helpful information. While I cycled between a couple of the colors, I spent most of my time in red (activates the circulatory and nervous system functions, as well as helping to balance hormone levels), strong green (providing anti-infectious, anti-septic, and regenerative stimulation), and blue (helping to relieve headaches + migraines, colds, stress, nervous tension, muscles cramps, and a couple other issues). While enjoying my 45 minutes in the sauna itself, there *were* a couple things I noticed... most of which relate to the fact that the larger, individual room (which contains the sauna) is open on top. The walls don't go floor to ceiling, so the light from from of the business, coming in from outside, inevitably pours into the individual room. Personally, I would have liked a room that was more closed off. Besides minimizing light from outside, it would also buffer a bit of the sound from outside the room (whether a phone call to the front desk, other people visiting the sauna studio, or various other happenings). After my sauna, I made my way up to the front desk to pay. Rachel ensured an additional pass for another visit was added to my account (a special offer for new clients), and she also extended the deadline for the pass to be used, as I was coming from outside of town. A delightful surprise. TL;DR I left the sauna studio feeling relaxed and refreshed... there are just a couple things that I personally felt could be a tad bit improved to make the experience as zen as possible.
