The fact that I have been a client of Back 2 Body for over 12 years speaks volumes as to their professionalism, customer service, and business ethics. In April 2024, Andrea, the business owner, referred me to Tiffany for my Brazilian wax. Like Andrea, Tiffany was polite, punctual, and highly competent. Tiffany admitted that she was new to aesthetic work which was reflected in the speed at which she worked. Regardless, Tiffany was thorough and performed one of the best waxes I had received to-date. In July 2024, Tiffany performed a second wax. Like our first meeting, I was greeted on time and led to a properly equipped treatment room that was both warm and inviting. The waxing was expertly performed. I was especially pleased to find that Tiffany had increased the pace at which she worked. As you may know, gentlemen, waxing services for men are difficult to find in Kansas City. Tiffany is truly concerned with the quality of her service. The fact that I have no stray hairs after a waxing is just one of the reasons I will have another waxing in November 2024 and for the foreseeable future. I went to a nice salon before I found Back 2 Body and paid $35 more for the same service...and was swollen for days! It took almost an hour there and Andrea gets you in and out in 10-15 minutes. There's no signage at her business - it looks like a big white apartment complex from the outside and if you come after 6:00, the front door might be locked - just text her to let you in. I have been in to see Andrea at least 4 times now and will continue to be a loyal customer. She really does produce great results and it's a lot less painful than most places. My review is predominantly for the only service I have purchased here, which was a massage. But I can comment on Back 2 Body as far as the location, the building, and the energy of the space. It is a great space, which from the outside you would never know. The minute you walk in from the plain white building exterior, you enter Back 2 Body, & are instantly transformed into a very calming, attractive, clean & inviting location. The people who I have crossed paths with during my visits there have been kind & warm. My massage therapist is Jeni Odell. I am so very thankful I found her. She is in tune with what each client needs. So you won't be getting a generic massage from her, unless that is exactly what you are requesting, & then I'm assuming she could meet that requirement. She, like many massage therapists wants to work with each individual client to ensure that they get what THEY need from the massage. Communication is key in this situation, as if you don't TELL someone what you are needing or expecting, they can't exactly provide it. But Jeni knows the right questions to ask, & she is extremely intuitive and responsive to the different issues, & the anatomy. She will improvise if needed depending on your situation. In my case, I had some "problem areas", & she suggested some options for the current massage, as well as future massages that might benefit me more, & gave me the input afterwards for discussion. I have been going to Andrea for about 5 years now for facial and bikini waxing, and she has been the only person that I have trusted with making my brows look on point! I have occasionally dipped out to other people because I was out of town and it was always a HUGE mistake! Andrea is quick, flexible, professional, affordable and knows her sh*t. I'll start by saying that Andrea is a champ and couldn't make you feel more casual and comfortable in her studio. She does a great, thorough, no-bullshit job with waxing ... and while I can't say it's painless, it's as quick and easy as such a thing can be, which is the most you can hope for. My only small complaint is that wax kind of gets everywhere in the process, and after my last appointment, I realized when I put my shoes back on that I'd somehow gotten wax on the bottom of my foot (??). Had three different treatments in this place on two different days. Difficult to reach anyone by telephone but managed via text. My first appointment was for a fertility massage. Rachel was very accommodating. I enjoyed the massage. It was different. Nothing I had ever had before. Mostly focused on the pelvic area. She explained everything she was doing as it happened so there were no surprises. The second treatment was for ingrown hairs in the face and bikini area. Interestingly, the lady couldn't help me, although that was the point of the treatment. But she did try. I just thought it was just weird that the treatment I paid for couldn't be helpful to me. Then it was time for the massage. I requested a man because I enjoy strong hands. However, I never asked for Mr. Chatty pants. I don't understand why would a massage therapist insist on having a conversation during a massage. Seriously, it is one thing if the client wants to talk, but if it is obvious the client is telling you he/she just wants to relax, why must you insist on trying to have a "let's get to know us" conversation. These people were SO rude! I was trying to understand how to use a expired Groupon. I had made an appointment with Nancy for a face tightening. On the expired Groupon it says you pay the difference. She quickly dismissed that and told me I owed her $125. When I booked it online it said $55, so I was calmly trying to look it up. Nancy and the girl and the desk did not have the patience or descency to help me understand what happened. They both looked at me like I was stupid and sounded exasperated. I walked out feeling embarrassed and they announced to the clients in the waiting room.. " what, did she want it for free?" Everyone laughed and the guy client said " I open you are not going to take this out on me!" In which Nancy responded yea! So unprofessional and rude! They humiliated me for no reason! I would of been happy to pay any amount for a good service! I also called to tell the owner Andrea about the incident. Instead of saying "I'm sorry your upset, please let me look into this and I'll get back with you ." She actually said "This is your side of the story" to me. And asked me what "I wanted". I walked out of there fully knowing I was losing my money I paid on the Groupon. When presented with such attitudes right from the beginning, I no longer wanted any services there! Ok so my boyfriend got me a gift certificate to back to body for Christmas. I was super excited. So I went to the website and was surprised at how much one person could specialize in. I decided to get a massage and a mini facial. I called to schedule an appointment, no answer. So I left a message with my name number and service wanted. After two weeks still no call back. So I call a second time, no answer. I leave a message specifying to call me back after 3pm during the week because of work. Well the next day I got a call around noon. I was getting a little frustrated with this phone tag crap. That day I called after work and no answer, I left another message but didn't even get a call back...again. The next time I called she answered! Fourth try is a charm...? Sadly she told me she only answered because she thought was someone else, and that if I called right back and left a message she would return my call the next day. Grr...doubt it. But I did call back and leave a message. Once again telling her that I cannot be reached until after 3. So of course I got a call around 2pm this time. Ugh, close but no cigar. Finally I got fed up with being nice. I called a 6th time, which is just plain ridiculous, I've never had to call 6 times to schedule an appointment anywhere else. I left a message saying I need to use my gift certificate and I've called numerous times and would really like for her to finally call back AFTER 3. Finally she did. It took 6 calls over a course of 4 months to get a hold of this lady. I'm not as impressed with Andrea as everyone else. I don't know if I was the only one who had trouble getting to talk to her. But it was awful. So awful that I wasn't even excited about my massage and facial. I didn't feel like this lady had it together. When I went to my actual appointment the services were average. Nothing special. I probably won't go back to Andrea. Too much hassle, and it wasn't worth the trip. read more

The atmosphere is always chill and inviting and I especially like the layout -- instead of having all the stylist/esthetician stations set up in one big, loud, open space, Back 2 Body is a maze of cozy little rooms that offer a lot more privacy and also allow you to have a conversation without having to shout to be heard. As far as the service, I love being able to book my appointment online and I've never had any issue with communication like a couple of other reviewers have mentioned. I would describe Amy as being knowledgeable, attentive and professional, with a lot of personality mixed in. I always feel like I'm just hanging out with a friend when I'm getting my hair done, which makes the whole experience so much better. When it's time to check out, I'm always surprised by how reasonably priced the services and products are and I'm always happy with how my hair looks, both color- and cut-wise. read more

I'll start off with the positives. I called the day after Christmas and was able to be fit in the next day for a bikini wax and massage. Awesome! The esthetician picked up her phone even though she had the day off, and the massage therapist texted me right away to ket me know she could see me. From the outside the building does not look like much. An older office building broken into suites. Inside the Back 2 Body suite they have taken the time to make it as inviting and calming as they can with lots of decor and such. And it is very clean. Now for the negatives. I hate to write a negative review, but that's why we have Yelp. This brazilian wax was the most painful I may have ever ever had. Granted I had not been in a few months, but I've gone that long before. Andrea was pretty no nonsense, but still friendly, although the first thing she asked me was "so what do you do for a living?" I think that is the worst possible way to open a conversation with any stranger. I told her I had just gotten a job with the KC Opera. Her response - "Does Kansas City even HAVE an opera?!" Yes, yes it does. Made me feel like my new job was insignificant... Anyways, she sits while she waxes and your legs hang off the table as if at the gynecologist, and this position of sitting does not allow the same kind of leverage when ripping one's hair out. You also lay on cheap thin paper, once again like at the doctor. She covered large areas with the wax and I had to ask her to do smaller areas at a time because I was in PAIN. She just did not have the kind of demeanor I am used to while at the salon, but she did make conversation and tried to get my mind off of the torture session that was happening below my waist. My massage therapist was Minna. I maybe should have asked for someone who does deep tissue, because I like to get WORKED. I've had a lot of massages, (used to manage a spa) and this was one of the more awkward ones. She never spoke, except when asking me to turn over. She never asked how her pressure was, which made me feel weird when I asked her to go deeper, which she didn't/couldn't. You cannot use the gel/oil for a deep tissue massage - you can't apply pressure when the skin in a big oil slick. My muscles were literally begging for more pressure. So I left feeling not so satisfied. But if you want a light Swedish massage with someone who lets you sleep, she could be quite good. I've had way better, and can't wait to get a "real" massage when my fundage allows. All in all, I did not spend a ton as it was my first visit and got a little discount. But I will not be returning. This place might be just fine for others, as my experiences were pretty personal to me and what I rather prefer. read more

My first time here, Khloe did my brow wax/cleanup. She did a great job, only charged me for a clean up ($15), and she also gave me a business card/coupon she said to use for my next brow wax. Now, today, I had my brow wax with Andrea... She was running almost 10 minutes late, then came and told me she had to go set up the room. (May be a personal preference, but Andrea was loudly chewing gum while working over me...I find that unprofessional and actually unsanitary.) She did a decent job on my brows, but when I get back to the car, I realized I still have wax surrounding my brows on the side of my face. She didn't remove the residual wax. Also, she charged me for a full wax ($20) and wouldn't accept the coupon that Khloe previously stated I could use. When I went to pay with cash, I asked for a receipt. She said, "well, I could hand write you a receipt...". No, I need record of this payment, I'm not just giving you cash with no record! So I said I would pay on my card using their square machine. I got the notification from my bank of the charge, but still no receipt from the merchant. On top of that, I was charged an additional transaction of $1.00, which I didn't authorize! They also were not clear on a Yelp deal that we are now stuck disputing with no help from them. If I had to choose I'd rather a mediocre massage with awesome communication and customer service. I've been going to Andrea for over 5 years now for waxing services. I started with my back, then my chest and legs and eventually had to try a Brazilian, which I just love. I now get a full body wax every five weeks or so. From my first visit Andrea has made me very comfortable. It doesn't hurt nearly as much as I thought it might. I think that's partially because Andrea is so skilled at what she does, and partially because she does a great job of engaging in conversation while she works which takes your mind off any discomfort you may feel. I really enjoy my conversations with Andrea, she's a great person too. Over time the hair on my body has gotten thinner and more sparse and also less painful to remove. I love the look and feel of my body without all that nasty hair too. It's one of the best decisions I ever made. So, a priest, a rabbi, and a Baptist minister walk into a bar and the bartender says, "What is this, a joke?" That's the kind of reaction I got the few times I told someone I'd decided to get a Brazilian wax. Then after the laughter subsided, and after the initial disorientation that followed the realization I was serious, came the question, "But why?" Why indeed. How ARE the choices we make derived, anyway? There are so many experiences that go into making a life--so many things that have affected our perspectives and desires--some in ways about which we remain totally oblivious. How could I answer that question? I could tell them I liked the feeling of being smooth "down there," or that the impulsive side of me had been yearning to do something wild and crazy--but these were hardly complete answers. No doubt it had something to do with my parents' inadvertent, but comprehensive, efforts at making me ashamed of my body when I was a small child, but whatever the reason, I was in the market for a "manzilian." Trouble is, there aren't many places which offer such services. My initial attempt to find such an establishment was met with failure--more than failure--utter rejection would sum it up more accurately. Going through the list of salons that offered waxing services in the "Yellow Pages" (none specified for men), I was not merely told that such waxing was not done at their salon, I was usually told this in a certain tone of voice--a tone that conveyed a certainty about my being a candidate for placement on the sex offenders registry. After a dozen or so affirmations of my apostasy to decency, I gave up in despair. Later, however, it occurred to me to do a search on the internet for "Brazilian waxing, male, Kansas" and though nothing came up for my hometown of Topeka, two salons in the Kansas City area showed up. Finally! I could call one of these places and be fairly certain that my inquiry would not be met with disdain. And sure enough, when I called "Back 2 Body" I spoke with Andrea (who performs the waxing services) and there was no hint of that "tone" in her voice. She was overtly friendly and encouraging, and I was able to talk to her openly about some of my concerns regarding the pain and--ahem--my anxieties surrounding being "fiddled with" down in my nether regions. When the day for my appointment came, my heart was pounding loudly enough that I was reminded of Poe's "The Tell Tale Heart," but like the police in that story, Andrea and the costumers in the waiting area didn't seem to notice. Later, lying on the table, unveiled, my heart continued to pound, but Andrea gradually helped me to feel more at ease with her friendly, professional, down-to-earth manner. For those who have never undergone this experience, and are thinking of doing so, it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge that what followed was painful. A few of the pulls were painful enough that I yelped a certain four letter word (you know, the one whose middle two letters are "u" and "c"?) No! Not THAT word, I'm speaking of "ouch!" Make that several ouches, but it was all very bearable, and in fact, thanks to Andrea, it was actually kind of fun--in a surreal, Twilight Zone-ish way. I also opted for a massage immediately afterward which really topped off the day. Male or female, if you are in the market for a Brazilian wax or any other waxing services, for other skin care or a massage, Back 2 Body is a place you should consider. Everyone I spoke with when I checked in for my waxing appointment seemed very approachable and friendly, but also no-nonsense and laid-back. Very refreshing when I, as a slightly nervous first time waxer, wasn't exactly looking forward to detailing my life biography to someone I didn't know while they ripped all the hair out of my legs. Don't GO! She just peeled my skin off not hair. I have been doing waxing from many years. This is the worst experience ever. She dint even use fresh wax strip. Like she uses one wax strip again and again for one whole leg. Come on I've paid $$ and that is not how one should serve your clients. She just peeled my skin off and now I have all the patches on my skin forming scabs and tuning dark. If you don't know please don't do it. I had been interested for some time in getting a Brazilian wax. I contacted Back 2 Body, and received a phone call back from Andrea within a few hours. She answered my questions without laughing, which was the first obstacle passed! She also gave me advice on how to prepare for the waxing, including taking ibuprofen 45 minutes before the appointment and taking antacid beforehand as well. I finally decided to go for it Back 2 Body's space is clean, warm, inviting, peaceful, and stylish. Tasteful artwork--prints and photography--line the walls. Herbal tea is available for you while you wait. Upon arrival, Andrea directed me to a small room, and instructed me to remove my pants and underwear. Before she left the room, she gave me a topical anesthetic spra to apply. To say I felt awkward when she came back in would be a bit of an understatement. I knew nothing of what to expect except pain. Andrea's professionalism and demeanor was amazing. She answered more questions patiently and compassionately, and made me feel at ease. Andrea worked quickly, and engaged me in conversation to keep my mind off having my pubic and perianal hair ripped out of my body. Yes, it was painful, but not nearly as bad I was expecting, a fact I attribute to Andrea's expertise. I learned a great deal about the different waxes and the emollients they contain, and she learned a bit about why I wanted to subject myself to this madness. One of the main reasons I wanted a wax was for the hair on my glutes. To Andrea's credit, she recommended I not remove all of that hair because it was quite coarse and dry, and I would likely wind up with ingrown hair. As I continue to wax in the future, she will gradually increase the area of coverage. In short, I highly recommend Back 2 Body. I'd like to update my review. The first massage therapist I used here has been gone for years and at the suggestion of the (very nice) owner I tried someone new - Minna. I was shocked at how accommodating Minna was in scheduling (I had to reschedule four times due to work obligations) but that surprise was nothing compared to the massage itself. She gave me an all over body massage, like my regular therapist, but went deeper than my regular therapist, which I really, really liked. I think she actually went a step towards permanently healing some minor injuries, like tennis elbow and carpal tunnel. So in short: it was darn near the perfect massage and I am now torn between scheduling again with Minna and "cheating" on my regular therapist. $60 for 60 minutes is her normal rate, and I normally tip $10, which means she would be $70 for me. Right now with tip I pay $50 to my regular massage therapist, but I don't think it's as good a massage as Minna's, so I may have to switch things up. read more
