My family and I have been going to The Joint Chiropractic for five years, originally at the Fairfax location. When Dr. Gee opened the Bristow office almost three years ago, we switched over, and now five of us go there regularly. My 10-year-old son, who has special needs and engages in self-injurious behavior like hitting himself, is one of those patients. On Saturday, 10/19, we went in for a visit, but the receptionist informed us that they were missing my son's original intake form, which is required to be seen. Without the form, they wouldn't allow him to proceed with his appointment. The receptionist insisted that we had never filled it out, which was frustrating since we've been coming for years. If we never completed the form, how have they been charging us this whole time without our authorization signature? I asked her to email me the form so I could fill it out later, as I was busy trying to manage my son, who was in the middle of hitting himself. However, Lisa Bueno, who showed absolutely no empathy for my son's special needs, kept telling the receptionist that unless the seven-page form was filled out immediately, he could not be seen--and they refused to email it. This was particularly shocking, as every other doctor, hospital, or specialist we've worked with has always been flexible, emailing us forms to fill out. Yet, Lisa was issuing orders without even being present in the office to witness the situation firsthand. The doctor on-site, who was very understanding, offered to help me fill out the form, but the receptionist then started yelling at him, saying he couldn't assist. This entire experience was the worst we've ever had. By the time we left, my son's forehead was bleeding due to the stress and chaos of the situation. I am appalled that someone like Lisa Bueno, who lacks basic empathy and professionalism toward a child with special needs, is in a position to represent three locations of such a well-regarded company. Her rigid, inhumane behavior and lack of flexibility in dealing with my son's condition were deeply troubling.

I want to add a few additional notes to help others make an informed decision. 1) I have degenerative disc disease, which I'm sure many who might read this review do as well. There is no cure and degeneration is not reversible. Dr. Joe promised to cure an incurable condition. 2) I followed up with my insurance after walking out of his office because I have pretty good coverage and the cost didn't sound right to me. They told me everything I described in Dr. Joe's treatment plan would be covered. So where was the extra money he was charging going? 3) Dr. Joe had a booth set up at the county fair. For kicks and giggles and figuring he wouldn't remember me, I let my 8 year-old and 12 year-old get one of his on the spot evaluations so they could get the free massage. Wouldn't you know it? Two perfectly healthy kids who have never had any kind of neck or back pain were told they had major problems that needed to be corrected.

After 2 surgeries and no relief, he found the Koff clinic. Tara Koff has been much more thorough in her assessment than any other doctor/surgeon we've seen. She cares for her patients, listening and working with them to help achieve realistic results. The staff at the clinic are always nice and reachable. We never had a problem scheduling or getting in contact with the office. The clinic is pretty far from our home - but the commute is worth the service. Thanks so much for your care and patience!
