I have lived in this area for four years and only just now discovering them! I have been driving down into Austin and Dripping Springs to find plants and trees when all along this place has been in my backyard. Very easy to find and plenty of parking. Even open on Sunday for those who are inundated during the week and can't get out except for a weekend. When I first stepped out of my car and began to walk around, it was dizzying. I felt like a kid in a candy store. So many tree varieties to choose from and I couldn't even begin to guess how many acres this place is. There are staff all over going about tending to the plants/trees but if you need help, they will go out of their way to help you. I was assisted by Adam who was extremely friendly and helpful. I simply had a question about a tree but Adam took me around in a cart giving me a tour since it was my first time here. In the end, I did end up buying a tree which they were happy to hold onto until I am ready to bring to my house. All of the staff are very friendly and Adam was especially helpful. They had trees I have been searching for online and some I thought I would have to buy from tree farms and have shipped here. And not only trees, but they have so much for bushes and shrubs and regular plants to decorate your landscaping if that is what you are looking for. Something else I really appreciated was there was no pressure. At other places, I have experienced high pressure sales, but here, they are very knowledgeable and just want to help. If you are looking to add something to your backyard or landscaping, you won't find a better nursery. read more

Backbone Valley is a great local business to Marble Farms. If you're willing to drive, you can pick up healthy trees and plants at a reduced price. The people are incredibly nice and helpful. I love to walk their grounds and see the variety of greenery. They have knowledgeable employees that will answer any questions you have. Note: Selfishly, I paused before writing this review because I don't want this business to be overrun with people. That said, this business deserves to be heralded for their variety, prices and customer service. So, I highly recommend Backbone Valley Nursery for your next nursery purchase. I had great success at this nursery purchasing many trees and smaller shrubs. I was fortunate to have Adam help me out and he was so great and so patient! Kayla did the scheduling for my delivery and couldn't be more accommodating. Logan delivered the trailer load of plants and again, his kindness and going out his way to park in an area that would make it much easier for the landcapers was so appreciated. This place is amazing. The workers really care about their job and are there for questions. Their plants are well organized and good quality. Checkout was quick. We were there maybe around 9:30am on a weekend. The bushes and herbs that we got from them are thriving in the ground at our house. We will definitely be back. read more

Great selection of plants & seeds. Staff were super nice. So why 3 stars? The outdoor plant brought root-eating bugs into my house and infected my other plants You MUST isolate these outdoor grown plants for 1-2 weeks as the bugs didn't show up for a few days until I started watering. The original plant I brought back ended up with fuzzy white caterpillars and browned from the bottom up the stems. It's all but dead 3 weeks later. Now my other plants are suffering the same fate and I'm spending a lot of time killing these little bugs read more

We have been going for years now, and their plant selection is good. Prices were never their strong suit, things are expensive. Help is very good ... but only if you get the right person. The knowledge is there but you have to stand around and wait a long time for advice. Young hires are low info, but this is not unique to Backbone. Supervisors are not very friendly, and since the virus hoopla some are downright cold. Recently they stopped answering the phone at all. The answering machine message says they are "too busy" to answer or respond to email and voicemail. Well isn't that special. All the last 10 plants we bought from them died (well before the freeze) and we live a long ways away. So what now, we drive in an hour and hope they are open? Hope they have the same plants for replacing ours? Hope they are in a good mood instead of arrogant? No thank you. If you stand for this, you're a doormat. We're switching to internet sources from now on for advice and small plant starts in the mail. It's not worth being treated like crap to patronize Backbone anymore. We're hopeful to find another nursery within an hour's drive. read more

So I go into the nursery after picking out a few plants and comment on the yellow flowers they have out front and tell them I lost mine in the winter storm last winter and did they have any? As I had looked and couldn't find any, the young guy working behind the register says sure we have lots and nods his head like out back!!! Ok thanks now what I expected was customer service like oh let me show you!! I told him that's ok I'll just take what I have!! Worst experience possible!!!! Stay Away From These Crooks and Theives!!!!! We purchased one tree and five plants, took them home, set them in front of our sprinklers and hand watered them for 5 days until our landscapers came to plant them. Two plants died, $40 a piece but the others all lived and are thriving proving that we did what we were supposed to do. The punk small man syndrome "manager" with dark hair and a beard on his chin refused to help us out. We were there to purchase around 2K worth of trees and plants and the a$$hole not only insulted my wife and I but basically called us liars so we left without spending any $$$$. I have never written a negative review about any business in my 65 years but hope if you are reading this you wil not dare put yourself through the misery of trying to deal with this business. I love this place! It's huge and full of premium plants at not premium prices! The staff here is so nice and helpful. During my first visit, the owner, Dale, made it a point to introduce himself and make sure I was taken care of. He was also full of information and was very helpful. This is definitely a place to visit if you're an avid gardener or just love plants! Don't forget to "check in" on Yelp to get your free pair of gardening gloves! FYI the Yelp site says it's hours of operation on Sunday are from noon to 6. I got here at 12:35 and the posted hours of operation sign says 1-5 on Sunday! read more

This is such a fantastic nursery! All the folks working here are incredibly helpful, gregarious and knowledgeable. And it is massive, with a great selection of all sorts of plants and tons of trees - they even grow some of the trees for other nurseries. I picked up a plethora of tomatoes and peppers, some of them heirloom varieties. They have ghost pepper! And also a wealth of information from the experienced staff on how to take care of your plants in Texas climate. Definitely swing by when you're in Marble Falls. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Their selection of plants and trees is huge. It is actually a bit over welming, but their excellent customer service will get you to what you want. We explained what we were doing and what concept we had in mind and they gave us multiple options for us to pick. I fell in love with one of their flowering bushes that was on the residential property. They did not have that exact species but are ordering it for me and will be availible in a week or 2. All their plants were well taken care of and the prices are very reasonable. I will not go to any other nursey and it takes me 60 minutes to get to Backbone. read more

Disclaimer: I know the owners. Fact: These guys know what they're doing from trees to flowers to landscaping. It is not only their profession, it is also their passion. Jessica has an Orchid House that is a must see. The entire nursery is a peaceful retreat park like setting that is well worth the drive even just to calm a stressful day, week or month. They hold events and seminars on a regular basis that are packed with great information and they even make it fun for the kids! I enjoy every visit more than the last and you will too. Backbone Valley is the best nursery is the great state of Texas!!! We drive 45 miles from Austin to come to Backbone Valley, and we wouldn't buy a plant from anyone else. Not only is it an amazing place to buy and learn about plants, but it is also just a fabulous experience. We enjoy walking the many acres and admiring all the plants and trees like we were at a botanical garden. The staff are friendly, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. They always have the plants and advice we are looking for. However, the GREATEST bit of Backbone Valley is Jessica's Orchid House!! I love to just look at all her gorgeous orchids and talk to Jessica herself. She is always happy to answer any questions and just talk orchids in general. After several miscues with the big box stores we finally found a place that has real Deer resistant plants and experts that can guide you. The service and knowledge is excellent. We bough a juniper that was showing stress after planting - sent an email with a picture and within an hour had a response with all the possible causes. Turns out it was overspray from the irrigation system. Their plants may be a little more expensive than the big box stores but they are healthier and you get great advice here. read more

I was searching for Angel Trumpets but even though they didn't have any on hand, they put me on a list to call when they come in.
