The staff took the time to answer every question, made fantastic recommendations, and clearly knew their products inside and out. The selection was incredible, the quality exceeded every expectation, and the prices were more than fair for what you get. It's rare to find a place that combines top-tier products, outstanding customer service, and a great vibe all under one roof, but this dispensary absolutely delivers. I came here earlier today and had an awful customer experience. The front counter employee was incredibly condescending and was excessive to say the least. He flipped my ID around for a while, scanned it, and then proceeded to grill me for my address, year of high school graduation, birthday, age, and more. I've never had any experience like this anywhere and I've been to many other dispensaries before so I'm used to the standard protocol. Highly do not recommend coming here unless you want to be disrespected and have your time wasted. read more

I was so excited to stop into Backcountry Cannabis to grab some goodies and was sorely disappointed by the unfriendly sales associate. He barked at us for our IDs, made no eye contact and was obviously miserable. His arm was in a sling so he may have been in discomfort/pain or it was just another case of poor business/management (he had to man both the greeting area and the actual dispensary part). Obviously I do not know what is happening on the inside of this business nor do I want to - as a customer I just wanted a pleasurable experience, a friendly exchange and to spend my hard working money at a place I felt good about supporting. Regardless of the reason that this was an unpleasant experience ~ this is a place where people come to support the cannabis industry and enjoy the experience. Instead we left feeling deflated and wished we had purchased our goods before coming into Crested Butte where Back Country was our only option. As a business owner I know too well that you show up giving your customers everything you have, everyday. Hopefully the integrity of the shop levels up and/or this young man who was working leaves his position there to follow the dreams he really wants to follow. Obviously he did not want to be there. THE WORST dispensary in Crested Butte. They sell disposable pens that don't work then won't do anything about it unless you take it back within 5 days and have your receipt. It doesn't matter if their label is on it and it is completely unused. It doesn't matter if the pen is defective. They will try to blame you for not storing it upright or in a climate controlled situation. But I'm not dumb... and I know this, so that's simply not the case. This is the only dispensary that operates this way in CB or Gunnison. Business must be going poorly since they are screwing loyal customers out of money for bad product. Been living in Almont during the whole legalization process and have never met worst customer service. Maybe they don't realize people have kids and jobs and can't always get back up the mountain that quick? Maybe they don't realize that sometimes people stock up while they are in town but don't get around to smoking it immediately? Maybe they just don't care and want quick money but not your loyalty. BAD BUSINESS. I highly recommend the dispensary in CB or the Cabin in Gunny. My family, in laws and everyone I know that works on the mountain, the river, at Harmel's, Almont Resort, Gunnison Hospital and in local construction will be sure to hear about this from me. This is hands down the best place to restock in the valley. Homegrown means amazing prices (no middle man) and more importantly that means no pesticides or herbicides ever. I asked a place down in Gunni (I won't name them here) if they had a poison-free option and they didn't. They said, "sometimes we have strains that are airquote organic airquote...but we don't have them right now." I don't know about y'all but I'm trying to be alive to smoke for decades into the future. I had high hopes for this place because of the few five star reviews. However the one star reviews seem to match my experience. As soon as I walked in, I noticed a terrible rotting smell like I have never smelled before. On top of that, both cashiers were extremely condescending and honestly didn't know what they were talking about. The guy with the greasy black hair and miserable look on his face is guaranteed to waste your time. I ended up getting a few different strains and it's safe to say I was let down by all of them. All of their jars of weed on the counter were covered in a thick layer of dust which makes sense because it's some of the worst weed I have ever smoked. Tried to roll a blunt and it just fell apart because of how dry the weed was. Save yourself the pain and disappointment and just go to the dispensary down the street because their stuff is way better. 0/10 read more

The people who work here are very helpful, knowledgeable, casual while maintaining a professional demeanor. The three different bud tenders who helped me while in CB were an absolute pleasure to deal with! By far, I think it's the best dispensary in the Gunnison / Crested Butte area. There's no tiered pricing, the prices are as competitive as it gets, and the quality is top shelf. If I was in the market to open a similar shop I'd use Backcountry Cannabis as a template for how it should be done. I'd never been to a dispensary before this trip to Colorado and BCC wasn't my first stop unfortunately. I guess it's good that I have something to make some comparisons between shops & I did eventually find BCC so I have no complaints about gaining a new education, even if it cost me a bit more. read more
