Halsinky Project also stocks non-sartorial stuff such as a range of MOR skincare and accessories by awesome London headwear label Chapeau Claudette. So it's not all bad. If your style is short, bright and playful, you're likely to love Halsinky Project. If your taste is more avant garde, minimalist or at the more 'Melbourne' end of the spectrum? Other great labels to look out for include Lowie Knitwear, Stella and Minx basics, Pipduck gumboots, Only Midge leather bags, Oktoberdee handmade accessories and Powershovel cameras. There's a long cushioned bench in the middle of the store where you can have a seat, and even though the store can get very busy at times all the sales assistants are brilliant. Not only are they friendly, but their speed and efficiency astonishes me when the store is bursting with eager shoppers. If crowds aren't your thing then maybe try and avoid the weekends; there are always people around but its less likely you'll be distracted from some great shoe shopping.

Smith Street cycles seem to be bucking the trend as it continues to serve the local cycle enthusiasts. The massive factory esque store has a huge number of new bikes for sale. There is also a decent size mechanics area where you can get you bike fixed or serviced. The choice of bikes is not large, as there seems to be more of a focus on quantity of a certain style. The actual space seems a little too big for the store. The walls are fairly bare and it doesn't have a lived in feel that most other bike stores have. The sales staff seem cool and willing to help, but don't try and ask a mechanic for help as I did, otherwise you're likely to have your head ripped off by the guy in charge, maybe it was just too early on a Sunday morning.

The racks flow with a who's who of the fashion world; Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Gucci, Chanel, Balenciaga and many more.
