do not use backyard fence please listen. if they install wrong or do anything wrong they blame you and lie and dont fix it. i have texts where they will twist and melissa pretends to he her father jerry. they did not properly install our fence we didnt notice it cuz we trusted them. the fence is so loose the wind blows it . jerry n melissa refuse to complete the fence. their workers threaten to jump the neighbors fence and fight. the police was called . they twist everything n will blame you. they are a horrible company. i thought they just did this to us. but i see they pick n choose. i paid thousands dollars for a fence that woobles so much . they said they fired the guy who installef my fence n did not pour concrete in the pole holes to secure it. please do not do not trust these people. they start nice n their sprinkle with kindness and they turn into nasty. horrible people who you have to call the police on and then they twist it n say they will call the police so they dont have to fix or be responsible. read other revews . please dont hire them. i hired them n referral to a friend. they schedule my friend 1st way before me .. got nasty n call names .. n its very unprofessional when they dont want to fix or owe up to their mustakes . the whole family gets nasty except the son if thats their son . zero minus rating. you'll regret hiring them . ​ read more

We had an estimate for fencing the new pool deck but didn't like how it enclosed the area and made it appear smaller (relative to the yard). We asked Backyard to modify the quote (into what would have been a much larger job) to fence the entire yard instead. They declined and were really odd about the request, to the point where we swung by their office to check on status. The owner refused to discuss the job further with us. They went from super communicative to non-responsive (and tbh, we felt uncomfortable with the owner's odd approach throughout). We wound up using another local company and had zero issues. ZERO stars!!! DO NOT do business with Backyard Fence unless you want to be lied to and blamed when their installers hit a wire that shuts off power to your house and then buries a fence post in the hole instead of telling you about it. When I got home from work and realized I had no power the company was closed so I left a message. The next day they never called me so I called them again. At that point Melissa was insistent that the foreman told me about hitting the wire which absolutely was NOT the case. If they told me I would have dealt with the issue immediately. The owner,Jerry, then responded to an email and took ZERP responsibility and just lied and lied but did ask for the estimate I got from electrician to fix the problem. He then said the estimate was excessive and offered to pay less than a quarter of the amount of the bill. He then continued to lie and blame me for the wire. I may have misunderstood when they told me they would handle the Dig safe stuff, but regardless what kind of person/ business hits a wire that cut off power (which they most definitely knew about) and instead of telling me they literally covered it up and lied about it. They are now offering no assistance with the electrician bill and instead just sending me nasty condescending messages after I just paid them $6500 for a fence. Additionally they left my lawn a mess and dug up a piece of my walkway for absolutely no reason which they refuse to even answer when asked why they ruined my walkway. Backyard Fence is the WORST company I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I see from other reviewers that their RUDE and NASTY demeanor is with other customer as is how they LIE to try to cover up problems and then blame the customer. Two days later and I am still without power and have to pay 1300 to get this electrical issue fixed. read more

Update on 10/26/2017: After several back and forth visits, a measurement error of 20', and raising of their price to above Bruce fence, I decided to go with Bruce. Overall, if Backyard Fence stayed lower than Bruce, I would have gone with Backyard fence. Other than a few peculiar behaviours (You are not allowed to speak to Jerry over the phone, only in person, or by passing messages back and forth through the office ladies), I found Jerry very pleasant to work with, and the company quite nice. They use a high quality fence, possibly higher quality than Bruce, and do a good job, based on jobs they've done in the area, that I have visited. If I have another fence job in the future, I would certainly let them bid, and go with them if they win. read more

We used Backyard Fence in the past and were satisfied. However, our most recent experience with a Backyard Fence installation was disappointing. A fence was installed but the installation lacked the conscientiousness to detail that we had come to expect from Backyard Fence. As a result, there were a number of modest but material deficiencies. Perhaps most disappointing was how condescending Backyard Fence was when responding to our concerns. We highly recommend this company. They did the job when they said they would, less time than they estimated, pleasantly polite, appreciative, etc. They cleaned up continuously, were very careful of our sprinkler system and the team of 4 worked very well together. I had an amazing experience with Backyard Fence, they removed my old chain link fence & installed a NEW vinyl fence with 100% professionalism. "Dan" the Forman of the crew was not only precise but also very informative, educating me on where to put the Gate Sections & advised me on where to have it swing, for proper pool code - at one point he even went out of his way to install 2 matching pieces of lattice to my already existing deck, so it would blend in & not stand out. They worked from 8am-6pm with NOT stopping & it was 93 degrees that day with not a cloud in the sky...these men were HOT & SWEATY and NEVER bitched or complained once! I had a fence installed by Backyard Fence and one of the spindles broke so I connected the owner's wife Melissa and she said she would order the piece. This occurred last summer 2021. I picked up the replacement and it was too short. I called Melissa and she said that they only come in one size so I sent her a picture showing it was too short, her reply was "I never knew they came in different sizes". I will order a longer one. Fast forward this year I have made numerous calls, stopped into their showroom and still no response from them. My husband called today and finally spoke to the wife Melissa and she said she was not doing business with us because she said I was rude. Are you kidding me? they are the most unprofessional, rude people I have ever don't business with. If they do not like what you are saying to them they just don't call you back or they are rude and they hung up on my husband and told him to go somewhere else. I guess when you have so much business you can be rude and unprofessional! What a low class act!!! read more

I just hung up with Backyard fence after a very negative discussion. The company installed a fence around my pool a few years ago with no problems. Based on my initial relationship with the company, I had very positive experiences. Fast forward three years later and I am selling my house. Over the past couple of years the gate to the fence has warped a bit and no longer closes on its own, as is code in my town. As I am selling the house, I need to bring my fence to code. Backyard returned two weeks ago for a service call, realigned the gate, and replaced a couple of pickets, but it still does not "self-close" which will be required by my home inspection. I received a call from the company looking for payment from the service call from two weeks ago, and I explained that my gate has been realigned properly, but that it still does not self-close. The company representative indicated that her notes only included realigning the fence, but not making it self-close. I obviously have a different memory of our conversation, but, as a fence company,.I refuse to believe that they do not know what the code requirement is for their market area for pool fences, nor that someone who had a pool and had originally paid for a self-closing gate would have any interest in having that feature actually work.. She did acknowledge that she knew the purpose of our service call was to bring the fence back into code for my home sale. The company representative grew frustrated that I was not happy with the outcome of my service call. She ultimately told me rip up my bill and "good luck with it". So now I am stuck looking for another fence company to come back to my house and work on Backyard fence's work. I will never understand why companies fail on the service side. My issue in paying my bill has nothing to do with the cost of the service, only with wanting to have the job completed as to code. Now I am stuck looking for another provider. Process working with them was professional! Highly recommend I called the company for an estimate and they sent out a professional in a timely manner. The estimate was clear and the professional who wrote up the estimate listened to my needs and helped determine a few plans of action for me to decide between. When I was ready to move forward on putting the fence in, the support staff did a wonderful job working with me and making changes as the process evolved. We used Backyard Fence to replace our old wooden fence. They are pretty busy so we had to book about two months out but when they came, they worked quickly and took down our old fence and put up the new fence in one day. They came back the next day to make sure everything was cleaned up and level. Fence looks great and I was impressed with the work. read more

We had 2 sections of fence installed late last summer. Jerry came out twice; once for the estimate, and again to answer some questions. He used his magnetometer to find the iron rod we had to identify for the property line. A crew of 4 came out the day of the install, showing up about 10 minutes early. They were the nicest and most personable guys!!! The entire job - 2 sections of fence, totaling just over 100 feet - was done in 4 hours. The fence looks awesome. We recently had to call, to request a repair of a section that became separated. They were here within a week to affect the repair. This is a fantastic, family-owned business. Melissa and "Mom" in the office took the best care of us. The cost of the job was $600 cheaper than the estimate we received from Lowe's. I cannot recommend them enough for all your fencing needs. read more

Received an estimate from Jerry the owner to fence in our backyard, id say its roughly .20 acres. We liked the 6 foot cedar stockade w/ 5 feet chainlink in the back. Estimate not including permit and land survey which was our responsibility was just under 10 thousand. Reviewing the paperwork I did not specify any materials or how they install. I do believe my better half did already email them with some questions, but she works crazy hours, I was unware she did or they responded. I emailed them the following questions. Id like to confirm the nails or screws are galvanized aluminum or stainless steel. This is to prevent rust so it stays looking good over time. Id like to confirm the depth of the post will be 3 feet down. Seeing we have soft ground and a high water table and a privacy fence doesn't allow wind to pass, general rule of post depth should be beween 1/3 to 1/2 of fence height in the ground so a 6 feet fence, nice sturdy quality would be a solid 3 feet down. And 3rd I was curious if they coated the posts, and if not I offered to do it, pay for all materials upfront and do all the work. There response to be was refusing the bid saying they last 40 years and will outlive you. "We will not supply you with anything upfront nor have our install guys stand around while you coat them" and on and on they went. Look I dont care what the flyer says, add winter, lots of rain, bugs and typical NE weather. Its not lasting 40 years. He processed to bash me, my friends, and family all over internet even stalking my facebook and other reviews, really creppy I must say. So I will continue to share this story and let the world know the type of person he is. I'm a firm believer home owners have the right to ask questions and get the desired product they want after all "we" are the paying customers. Yes it can be easy to loose your cool, but his actions are totally un called for. All he had to do was respond with what materials he does use, how they install and if necessary adjust the price in accordance with what the customer desires. Simple business if you ask me. Don't waste your time. I asked for an online quote , did measurements myself, explained the area to be fenced, and sent them pictures per their request and then they "respectfully declined my project" (which was fencing in my backyard - nothing crazy) without giving any reason why. I called back and they said it was too much work for 3 guys ( ?) and that I should look into the "penny saver". Seemed very demeaning especially since I didn't give any budget and was willing to pay more because of a hill we have in the backyard. When I questioned that, Melissa then said it was because "I asked for some of the previous fencing to be Re-used" , when my email clearly states that I wanted to see if it was possible to re-use some of the existing dog run ( a valid question and one that I would have been fine with a no for). I guess they decided I was cheap and didn't want my job. They seem like they are only it for easy jobs and easy money. Edited in response: Well, the project is fencing in my backyard and the name of your company is backyard fences.... but I completely agree and will add that not every company is a good fit for customers either . I will simply state the facts. These people are mean and I would say something about their customer service, but it was non-existent. Refused to reschedule my appointment. Stayed home all day waiting for person to arrive. Received call 15 minutes past appointment time. Driver was on the next street over, demanding alley access and would not walk to backyard through house for just an estimate. (work was not being done today) Worker hung up on me and never even came to my house to meet and talk to me. I know what your thinking, "good help is hard to find," but come to find out this was the OWNER of the business. I called Nancy, the dismissive secretary, but she could not care less about my concerns and the fact that my entire day was a waste of time. (Tuesday.. I canceled work for this Appt) She referred me to the owner's wife Melissa who told me that they do not service my neighborhood and haven't for 20 years. ...so why then schedule an appointment foir me and call to confirm the appointment the day before????She replied "how would we know where you live?" I told her I gave you my adresss and suggested she use google maps and satellite images from now on. This company picks and chooses who they want to work for, which is their right I know, but why lead someone on and waste their time and money?
