Our job was to remove worn decking and replace with Trex, remove one set of steps and install two new sets, railings and lattice work. The work was done meticulously and with precision. Encountered a section of hidden water damage which was smoothly repaired and buttoned up. Daniele Barcaglia and Justin Burton worked daily in absolute miserable weather, snowy, raining and windy cold but continued to focus on our deck with unhurried care and conscientiousness, making sure that each cut and placement of materials was spot on. We also had a semi flat roof redone as well as siding replaced and flash sealed. Bennett has partnerships with other reputable companies and they work together to get everything done right. Our project was in the expert hands of Steve Shanholtz (senior project manager), Justina Auer (designer), and Master Carpenter Daniele. In the course of five weeks, Daniele stripped the bathroom down to the studs and sub-floor and rebuilt it into a work of art. Daniele took the design Justina put together for us -- Justina was a perfect partner and collaborator: encouraging and practical throughout -- and made it reality. This is our fourth job working with Bennett and Daniele exemplified what makes its people so special. First, superb craftsmanship: the care, precision, and pride that went into everything was exceptional, from the join where two pieces of moulding met to the incredible tiling design in the shower. Second, incredible work ethic: with everyone at Bennett, no job is done until it's done right and everyone can rest easy it's good for the long term. Can't say enough good things about Bennett's work so far. Had them install slider, paint and put new flooring in my sunroom, and the place is transformed. Highway robbery. Look elsewhere. We agreed to a flat rate of 95.00 an hour and ended up getting a bill for twice the amount. When questioned, I was told that it was per technician at the site! This was not disclosed at the time of hire. They also apparently charged extra for a propane tank they said they had to rent to warm up siding which wasn't disclosed either. Let me add, they wanted extra money for their gas! Do yourself a favor and find someone else. They may reply to this to defend their business but as a consumer, listen to us and not them. My 90's kitchen desperately needed some upgrading, so I called Bennett. Could not afford a total re-do, so I approached Bennett with a specific list of upgrades, sliding door, floor & countertop upgrade, overhead fan and oven installation, etc. Bennett's expertise was a wise choice. They worked around existing cabinetry and fixed many cob-jobs by the previous owner. The work was detailed and comprehensive from the new electrical circuit to the tile & painting. Efforts & scheduling were well thought out as I used to do planning for turnkey power plants. Have been able to squeeze me in on two separate occasions. Siding both times. One was a piece missing and I happened to have a piece so they slapped it up for me. Couple hours labor and done. Second time same day came over and repinned a piece that recently had popped and was dangling. I was very thankful they can so soon so it didn't become a bigger job than it was at the time. Superior workmanship in all the trades. We trust them 100%. We've employed them 3 times in the last two years and would not hesitate to bring them into our home again. It's rare to have a contractor work in your home and not feel stressed. We hardly know they are there. They are problem solvers too. Two of our jobs involved professional evaluation. In one instance we employed Bennett to solve our problem of freezing pipes in the winter, in our new construction home. The builder made several attempts to solve the problem to no avail. 9/04/2021 2:15pm Lowe's in Glenmont. One of your drivers just tried to start a road rage incident with me as he went to pull out of a parking spot and I was pulling in. He would have hit me if I didn't beep my horn then he threw his hands up cursed and aggressively pulled forward then spun the tires as he backed out and peeled out of the parking lot. All because I didn't want my vehicle to be hit. Not smart to drive like that and treat the public like that with a company logo on the vehicle. Estimate was ten to twelve grand more then the three other contractors that gave me a price. Rip off

They installed a Bilko door to an outside cellar entrance. The estimator had to find one that would work because the opening would not match a stock size door. The crew then had to build out the opening so the door would fit. Had to wait quite a while for all the parts and have a crew available, but it was completed before the real cold weather. Two guys removed the old wooden door and installed the new Bilko door in a day. They were efficient and did a good job. The price seemed fair. This company has a good reputation, but you might have to wait a long time for work because they are always very busy. read more

Bennett did a poor job repairing a porch. They started the job by driving a flatbed truck onto my lawn, leaving large ruts, when they could have simply parked 10 feet away on the sidewalk. My tenant reported that they ripped out a potion of the second floor facia, which was not included in the job nor discussed. They had completed a couple of days of work and I was concerned so had a contractor I knew check out the job and he pointed out several red flags, so I terminated the job. They had already collected $3k for less than 3 days of work (the first day they couldn't work due to an electrical problem, so went home) and now are attempting to collect for the full amount of the job left partially done, with damages to the house. I'm told they used to be an excellent company and that went south when the company was resold. read more

We got estimates from several window companies and found Bennett to be one of the most reasonable. The handyman service department is more expensive, but you actually get the work done. A 5* review for a home contractor? Surely not - a category of business infamous for aggravation and complaint. All the more reason to laud an exception. And each of our interactions with Bennett over maybe 3 weeks were exemplary. We had a few small exterior siding and repair jobs - nothing major, just at the point where it wasn't worth me buying a 20' ladder. Initial call: they noted that this was in their 'handyman' category, and it would be a couple of weeks before they had a slot. A rep called as promised, exceptionally courteous, and fixed an appointment time that met our schedule. Their repairman showed up promptly to the minute, cheerful and competent; made sure to get a list of each thing needed and went to work. When we walked through an hour later, every detail was perfect and some were well above the request - for instance a fascia piece between garage doors was not only back in place but silicone-caulked, looked better than new. Pricing was clear and upfront. Left us with a hugely positive impression - kudos, guys. They've been around for a long time, and I am astonished that I get to be their first review - if you have home repair/contracting jobs, give them a call. read more

So I posted this review on google, and they had the audacity to respond that the work was done! I spent over 20,000 for them to replace the rotten trim around the house. You DID NOT do the work for which you were hired. You replace a few boards, but painted over the rest of the rotten trim (and there is a lot, this is a big house). Don't you dare respond that you did the work! Painting over rotten trim was not what I paid you for. The paint was peeling within a year because rotten wood does not hold paint! read more

I signed a contract with Bennett Contracting to cover the soffits and facia with vinyl and paid the price for vinyl. Recently a piece of the material fell off the house and I discovered that they had not used vinyl, but aluminum. When I called to see if they could at least put the piece back up on the house, I was told they would do it "on a time and materials basis". And they also told me that there is no such thing as vinyl fascia and soffit coverings. Unfortunately for them, I have a written contract signed by them and me that states otherwise. Also, you would think that it would be good customer service to take the small bit of time required to tack that piece back up for me....but they wouldn't do it without charging me. "We can't guarantee that (it) will hold up under all conditions", is what I was told. Bad business...don't expect customer service...or even honesty here. Here is the wording from my contract: "Install new white vinyl ventilated panels to all overhangs. Soffit panels are specified as a triple 4" exposure per panel. Install new white vinyl fascia to all eaves and rake boards." Pretty clear, isn't it? I paid a good price to be cheated. Don't let it happen to you! read more

We hired Bennett Contracting to replace our second story deck and we couldn't be happier with the finished product! When we watched them tear down our old deck we were shocked how poorly built it was. This was contrasted starkly by the way the crew from Bennett built. I got an estimate from them that was high but within range of the others. their estimator seemed to be put off by my questions and follow up attempts to get the most of my time limit and budget. I am not a professional and did not have alot of experience wtih the process. When I asked to have another associate sit in on what I thought would be our final meeting for a second opinion and alternate perspective they ignored my request and changed their start time by 2 weeks. I think this was just my estimator and not a issue with the entire company. the owner and estimator were clearly not hungry for work or my money. read more
