I come back to Cashton Wisconsin on occasion to unwind and relax from my busy life in the Chicago area. I visit Badger Crossing every time and sit at the bar for a drink and a bite to eat. I am always greeted with a warm welcome and delicious drink from Dave. I can't say enough about the experience here. I had the fish on a Friday night and it was delicious. The salad bar is clean and plentiful. I even met some of the nicest ladies in Cashton who kept me company for hours. Just a great place overall. Highly recommended! read more

Poor quality food is this place's biggest problem. I ordered grilled shrimp and I think they were boiled, had no seasoning and were just awful. They need a new cook who knows what good food tastes like and how to season food for good taste. The place was dead on a Saturday which surprised me because the atmosphere is really neat. However, the food is so bland and poorly prepared I think the word has spread. They need to reinvent themselves and do a re-opening with an improved menu. This place used to be good. read more

Great restaurant in the Cashton area. Salad bar had fewer items than I'm used to (being from the city), but they were all fresh and delicious. Could have eaten the salad bar only for my meal and would have been more than content. The tenderloin (either sandwich or as a steak) was recommended, so I went with that as well. Especially paired with the au jus, the sandwich was perfect. Filled me up and was easy on the wallet. Highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area. Fast, friendly and filling. On our road trip from Minneapolis back to Chicago, we were looking for a place to have lunch, avoiding the Dells area. This place popped up on Yelp and we went based on reviews since there were only 3 pictures posted. I am so glad we listened to the reviews and stopped by. The star was the pizza, both the cheese and the meat eaters. There is no such thing as too much cheese and I'm glad because this pizza was packed with cheesy yumminess. The let-down was the grilled chicken sandwich, it was not very flavorful and the bread was kind of dry. The sweet potato fries and the beer were a nice pairing as well. Although I doubt we will be back any time soon, it was definitely a delicious meal to hold us over until we get back home. read more

I had been here once before for a work Christmas Party and for that event we had to pre-order from a few choices. Likely, because of it being a large party. So I wanted to visit when it was just my husband and I and we could choose from their standard menu. Menu had plenty of choices you'd find in a finer restaurant - seafood, steak, burgers, fish, etc. I had the shrimp scampi and my husband had the fish fry. Both were good, however, it did feel a little on the pricey side. Again, it's not a diner or a family restaurant or anything, but it felt that maybe the food should have been a little fancier for the price. Dining room is large and very clean. Service was great. We're visiting friends and family in the area, so I was looking for a midwest Friday night fish fry to take our small party out for dinner. I had asked around and everybody said "Badger Crossing." They were right! Melissa took my call for a reservation and our table was ready the moment we got there (and the house was busy nonstop). Kris took care of our group with expert attention and knew her menu well. She helped us make the choices we did and we had a great dinner because of it. The broiled fish was just a tiny bit more dry than I expected but a little more drawn butter and lemon worked that out deliciously. The rest of the group had fried fish and loved it, too. Let me back up a moment and mention the soup and salad bar. Excellent variety and super fresh, across the board. The soups, I had to try a cup of each (*pause to drool again and wipe my chin.. ok, back to my notes*). The bonus item I had almost forgotten to watch for was there, too. I don't know where they get their pickled herring but it's so good, I'd buy a monthly subscription to a delivery service to get it. Bottom line? Do you like piles of delicious food? If so, this place is for you! We were in the process of moving to La Crosse, and ended up staying in Westby because the hotels in La Crosse were full...and our apartment wasn't ready...so, looking for a place to eat that wasn't the whole way back to La Crosse, decided to stop in the Badger Crossing. This was a great decision! The Badger Crossing has kind of the feel of a brewpub, but with Midwest vibe...where by "Midwest vibe" I mean there's a popcorn machine with free popcorn. Awesome. The menu is extensive, and has everything from pub fare, like burgers and pizzas and appetizers (go for the squeaky cheese curds!)...to high end options, like steaks and prime rib. On a couple of occasions, I was lucky enough to get one of the specials - duck with pesto sauce. It is probably one of my favorite things that I have ever eaten, and I have eaten a lot of things. There's a few options for vegetarians. Oh, and a salad bar! One thing I really appreciate about Badger Crossing is that most of the dishes seem to be made from scratch or locally sourced. They make their own kettle chips and fries from actual potatoes, they get their beef from a local butcher, and the desserts are homemade. Even the pub fare is much more high quality than you'd normally get - no frozen mystery 80/20 beef. Although I have no good reason to be in Cashton, I occasionally make the trip just to go to Badger Crossing. It's a lovely drive from La Crosse, and totally worth it. read more

We were in the area to ride bikes on the 400 State Trail. We got into the area after 6:00 pm on a Friday. Being that everything is a bit of a drive from where where were staying, this was only about 15 minutes. Good reviews so we gave it a try. Excellent, great food, good variety of tap beer. All of it very reasonably priced. And great service also. Really neat bar which we had a beer at while waiting for our table. We got grilled fish and fries. The fish was good, and the fries were crispy and really good. The salad bar was limited, but was fresh and the soup was excellent. read more

The last few times I've been to BC, I've found it going down hill. This evening, we had reservations to celebrate a special occasion. Had difficulty checking in. The hostesses seemed overwhelmed and had sour expressions. It took several minutes to be acknowledged. The apparent crisis was that they had run out of $1 to make change and several people were trying to pay their bill. In a restaurant that takes reservations, It seems to me, one ought to be able to pay at the table and not have to queue up like cattle at the hostess station after a meal. The waitress was familiar and took our orders promptly and efficiently. That's the last place you'll read those two words in this review. We ordered steaks, shrimp and batter-fried fish. I ordered "steak of the month" which was a T-Bone. It was most assuredly not "prime" (in fairness it was not advertised as such) however, it wouldn't have made even a "choice" grade. Full of gristle. Both steaks were cooked incorrectly. The T-Bone was supposed to be medium-rare, even had the little toothpick sign, but it was medium. The second steak was to be medium-well, it came through medium rare. It took 40+ minutes to get our order, which was excessive, particularly , when it came through not as ordered. I asked the waitress, what was the problem, she appropriately apologetic, said the kitchen was very busy. Acquaintances at another table, this evening, told of a similar experience. The main dining room was 75-85% full, I don't believe the upstairs was even open. If the staff can't effectively handle this, perhaps, a staffing change is needed or fewer tables, or maybe a rethinking if the restaurant business is one you should be in. The waitress made an adjustment to the bill, however, I much would rather have paid full price and get a semblance of what was ordered. The shrimp and fish were satisfactory--but think it may be difficult to screw up batter fried fish. I've had better steaks at Waffle House, and didn't have to wait 40+ minutes for it! This was definitely the best place I went while working nearby for a week. Nice interior with polished wood floors and a nice bar and large dining area. The customer I was working with took me here while things with their network got sorted out. He is a regular, so greeted by name and lots of chit-chat afterwards. 3/4 through a 1000 mile motorbike weekend, my wingman and I stopped by to grab dinner - not because we had heard about the place, but because at 5:30pm on a Sunday we thought everything would be closed before too long. He's been observing an elimination diet, and has been refraining from all sorts of stuff. The Gluten-free selections catered to his needs - and they tasted good too. Made reservations for my son's birthday last Friday evening for six. Four of us ordered fish, which was the special that night. The portions of the broiled fish was laughable. Literally one inch was the size of the piece of fish on my mother's plate. On top of that we were asked to leave less than an hour into our reservation because "people are waiting for your table." This is my Special Occasion go to place. Every night has a special. The atmosphere is excellent as well as the service. Saturday Prime Rib melts in your mouth. The ribs fall off the bones. This restaurant is clean the salad bar is standard. White lettuce with the fixings, herring would be the highlight. We ordered the spaghetti with Meatballs and fettuccine with chicken. The noodles on both were mushy and inedible. The 2 meatballs my husband had were tasty however the chicken was precooked prepackaged and microwaved. The sauce had no flavor at all and wasn't even as flavorfull as anything you can get out of a jar... the garlic bread was predominantly cold and stale.
