Best bagels and breakfast sandwiches in the city. Always fresh and delicious. So happy to have a spot like this in Dartmouth.

Tried here on a weekend after they first opened and it was later afternoon unfortunately, so 90% of their inventory had sold out for the day. My friend and I each ended up buying a lemon type pastry, and they were fine, but we were disappointed to not get to try a bagel. So after learning of the popularity of the place, I came back another morning to try their breakfast one with bacon & egg, and it was yum! Also have had the turkey club one for lunch one day. I've tried most of their flavors with butter or cream cheese via a coworker who picks them up on his way to the office many days. I think my favorites are the poppy seed or sesame seed. The strawberry one, which is entirely pink and cute-looking, didn't really have a strawberry flavor. The chocolate chip had a few chips in it and was decent, but not chocolatey enough for me. Same with the blueberry. The Everything with cream cheese is very flavorful. So is the Onion & Garlic one, very similar to the Everything, with lots of flavor. Really like the pumpernickel with cream cheese as well, seemed to be toasted to perfection, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The Oreo is good, with crumbled bits of cookie on top of a plain bagel. The bagels in general are definitely my favorite in the city though. Staff owners are very friendly. Only thing that could make this place better would be if it was closer to my neighborhood of Clayton Park, and that it was bigger inside, to be able to sit and enjoy a bagel on site (vs the maybe 4 small tables the place actually has, which are usually taken). Believe the hype! I've pretty much been eating bagels for three days straight because I've been waiting years for fresh, hot and GOOD bagels. I don't care if they're Montreal-style or New York-style, I just want good, fresh bagels nearby. Yes, I know you can buy decent quality bagels at certain grocery stores but nothing beats fresh from the oven. I have yet to try the bagel sandwiches, samosas etc. but if the bagels are anything to go by, they'll be great. Some people have complained about price but $9.00-$9.50 for a dozen? Doesn't seem unfair to me, especially for quality bagels! read more

Hand rolled bagels fresh out of the oven, do I need to say more? Me and my gf went there. She got the turkey, I got the salmon sandwich on an onion bagel. They really heaped on the salmon + cream cheese and capers (which was wonderful) and we were both happy with what we got. I will say it was a little pricey and the sandwiches were a little small but when you get gourmet, you're going to have to pay a bit more. Not a lot but enough to warrant mention. That being said, I'm only talking about the sandwiches, the price for bagels was pretty good. Gawd, that was a really good salmon sandwich. We will definitely be going back there! read more

I am from Montreal and have often eaten bagels from St Viateur. The owner worked there for 15 years so he knows bagels. These are the real deal! I go there to eat traditional sesame or poppy seed bagels, so I can't speak for anything else. They are great and warm if you can get there for 6AM read more

Delicious bagels right out of the oven! It's really neat to watch them baking and flipping them while you're ordering. After a couple of visits my favourite is the breakfast sandwich on a Montreal Steak Spice bagel ($4.90). Other flavours I saw there included pumpernickel, everything, onion, coconut, multigrain, sesame, banana chocolate. They also have interesting dessert bagels that are more of a U-shape. I had a lemon one and it was like they had put a bit of lemon glaze or filling inside before baking. It was fun to try, but not for me. They also have gulab jamun! You can get a couple of different kids of sandwiches on bagels, so it seems like a great breakfast or lunch spot if you want to do more than pick up bagels for home. There's good parking just in front and since it's close to the Macdonald Bridge, you can walk or bike there too. (I didn't notice bike parking though.) The only thing I feel it was missing was the option to buy different flavours of cream cheese. They're new though, so maybe it's something they'll have in the future. The customer service here is really great and orders are ready quickly! There is limited seating (maybe 4-6 chairs), so it's better to get something to go. read more

Couldn't wait to get some of these wood fired Montreal style bagels in Halifax NS after a family member brought some to share. They were delicious then & delicious now! Classic varieties like sesame, all dressed and plain or titillate your taste buds with Carrot Raisin, Rosemary Olive Oil Sea Salt, Chocolate Chip Swirl etc. Hot and fresh! This little shop provides a wide selection of housemade bagel flavours, from the exotic to the classics, as well as other baked goods and sandwiches. The bagels are delicious and reasonably priced and it's fun to try the different flavours. My only complaints are that they serve the eat-in food in styrofoam containers so if you don't want that, maybe bring your own plate or something. It's also extremely hot in there due to the wood fired oven. But some people might enjoy that, especially in winter. I won't let either thing lower my rating though because these bagels are truly not to be missed!! read more

Montreal style bagels are my absolute favorite! I am not a purist/expert, so I can only speak to how good these tasted, not whether they lived up to the best bagels turned out in Montreal. I saw this on Halifax Retales and on television and had to try it. I've been here twice and the bagels are amazing. I tried the poppyseed and the Montreal steak spicy ones and have to say that the Montreal steak spicy is my all time favourite. The prices are really reasonable for getting one bagel with a drink or even half a dozen. Definitely one of the new places in Dartmouth that you have to check out! read more

These are bagels like no other. Crunchy outside, soft inside with a subtle sweetness every time. Endless flavour choices including coconut and even Oreo! I get take out every week although I lean towards cheese, or sun dried tomato/basil or sesame. Their breakfast sandwiches are so good. I get one every Saturday morning. read more

The REAL Deal -- these people are producing terrific bagels in the authentic Montreal style, in an authentic brick oven. What a treat to see the old-school hand-production setup, and the long chute where the freshly-baked bagels are cooling! Classic white-seeds or black-seeds, plus a nice selection of modern varieties: Rosemary? Strawberry? Cheese? All worth a try. Cream-cheese and smoked salmon sandwiches are hand-prepared to order, plus they do a few different Breakfast bagels. Small, local, and very nice people - it's worth a short lineup. Moves quickly. For three years, I have been deprived of Montreal bagels after moving back home. I have been bringing them back in my suitcase from trips home and anywhere else I could find them.
