It's pretty easy to figure out where you need to go and which platform to be on for a train in or out. I think there are 20-30 different platforms. We took a DB (Deutsche Bahn) to and from the Black Forest without any issue. The trains are clean, smooth, and FAST!

There are lots of restaurants, amazing bakeries, and coffee shops to choose from and if you wait inside in the restaurant area, you must make a purchase. Unfortunately, the train schedule is quite different on Sunday and we ended up having to leave the bullet train and get on a smaller train at another platform, carrying luggage up and downstairs. Then we drove a while longer on the train and then had to change trains yet again. We are so grateful to the people who helped us finally get to our hotel!

The ticketing was fairly frustrating, but we'd grown accustomed to that as the electronic ticketing system in Germany, despite there being an English option, is not at all easy to navigate unless you are familiar with it. By this time in our trip we knew what to expect and had built in some time to navigate it and had a vague idea of what we needed so it went fairly well, but with the same little computer hiccups we'd come to expect from the system. The overall train station was, in my opinion, a bit grimy, and well loved, but it had some little cafes that were open early which was a win, and some fairly clean restrooms, though you had to go all the way to the basement for them. Overall, not a lot to report here. It could be modernized, cleaned up a bit, and improved, but it gets the job done.

We were so excited to use these lockers, which we didn't see anywhere else during our tour of…read morenorthwestern Germany. These lockers are operated by a key card issued to you after payment. It accepts both cash and credit card. Upon payment the roller shutter opens, and we were able to fit all three pieces of our carry-on luggage inside. Once the shutters close, the only way you can retrieve them is with the key card it had issued to you. When you present the key card, the compartments inside shuffle around until the compartment with your bags appear. It must be like those puzzles when there is probably only one empty block of space inside and an algorithem has to move the other blocks which are occupied with other luggage around until yours are ready to exit through roller shutter. Booking and taking a train is pretty straightforward and easy to do. You can book online or in…read moreperson though tickets do sell quickly and it is often advised for longer distance routes to purchase a designated seat to avoid complications, especially if traveling with luggage. The train station is easy to navigate through but there is still ongoing construction around the station that can be tricky. The station has a coffee shop, and a few other shops with light bites to purchase while you wait. There is also a bathroom but you will need to pay Euros (or a credit card I believe) to use it, which is pretty standard throughout Europe.
