Random shot of some low lying plants..

This is a small, arboretum in a relatively secluded part of Long Island. Unfortunately I didn't come at the right time of season, cuz the trees were still rather naked and there were no flowers bloomed. My parents and i walked through the trails, but we saw more dead trees that were chopped down, instead of beautiful trees and plant life. My favorite part was probably the little shelters they have set up for birds they've rescued. I saw this really big owl, resting while perched on a branch and I saw what looked like a falcon as well. In another section close by, they had other shelters set up for other animals. I saw a possum munching on some food. I never thought I would say this about a possum, but it was kinda cute.. loll There's no admission or parking fee, so that's cool. Great place to take your dog(s) for a stroll. I think this place would def be more pretty during the Autumn season.

This arboretum is small, beautiful, & quiet. We had a great time here for an afternoon walk. This place is so quiet, so relaxing, so private. It almost feels like it's our own private garden when we were there. There is also a wildlife center. It is a shelter for rescued animals. You can also see the Bailey house, which you can rent out for private event. The walking trail is great for some light exercise while looking at different type of trees. There is also a pond inside & a gazebo. This place is definitely one of Long Island's hidden gem. The entrance & parking are free. You can also donate by putting cash inside a small box near the children's habitat entrance.

This is a really nice place to visit~ There is an area where you can see birds. There's a pond located within. Fun place to take a leisurely stroll through the park.

Little gem on the north shore of Long Island. Beautiful old trees with much character and divinity. There is a section of wild birds that which they saved and tend to. This place is seriously great! I found out about it when my friend had her wedding here and have loved coming back since. It's free too!

Beautiful, free, friendly folks, two lakes, all you can hear are birds chirping. Lovely visit for an hour or two.

Lovely grounds! Went on a Saturday afternoon and spent a few hours walking the property. There are two ponds and we did see a large turtle outside the pond area. Lots of shade on the trails which made the temp feel 10 degrees cooler! It is dog friendly and we did see a few on the grounds. There is no charge which is nice but they do have A donation box! Defiantly worth checking out if you're looking for a fun place to be outside. I'd even recommend bringing food for a picnic as I saw a lot of great spots for that.

Tiny botanical garden in beautiful Lattingtown. Situated on the historic estate of Frank Bailey, it has a bit of an intruding on someone's private property feel to it but it also makes you feel like you have the entire place to yourself. Every time I come here it seems totally empty which is shocking because entrance is free. They also have shelter for injured animals, mostly large birds like hawks and owls which are beautiful. It's a fairly nice park but just doesn't have that much diversity in trees or flowers. If you want to get away for some peace and quiet then this is the right park for you. Doesn't get any more quiet than here.

Just a wonderful, beautiful little arboretum. Lots of great photos to be taken here, with a pond, a gazebo, and dawn redwood trees.

I would suggest coming closer by opening time or you have to wait for a car to leave - There is 2 porter potties near the entrance - It's quite a small space - takes about 15-30min max to leisurely walk around This Japanese Stroll Garden is located in Mill Neck. It's quite a small area of land compared to the parks/preserves in the area, but while you are within the bounds of this garden, it feels quite peaceful/zen. It is designed to mimic that of Japanese Garden. The details of the wooden cross bridge, abundant bamboo trees, stone lanterns/water basins, the pond and the Japanese tea house located in the middle all make you almost forget that you are in NY and feel like you are transported to Japan for a moment. It's a really nice escape while taking in the sights & having a casual stroll. Although I do suggest a visit once, I don't think it's worth the trek coming all the way here just for this (just because it only takes 30min max). It's a great detour while having other things on the agenda to do around the area.

There are so many plants, flowers, and a beautiful greenhouse. Everything outdoors was stunning, and despite the heat, it was a wonderful day to spend outside. The kids had a great time, and the parents acting as chaperones enjoyed the nature as well, we were able to hear the birds, smell the flowers, and take beautiful pictures. Everything was great from that perspective. However, when we took the tour inside the castle, things took a turn. There is no AC inside, and it was a very hot day. You can imagine having a large group of kids inside a stuffy museum after they had already been out in the sun! They had a scavenger hunt set up for the kids, yet when the kids actually found the items, the staff very angrily told them they weren't allowed to touch anything. It makes no sense to host a scavenger hunt for children if they aren't allowed to interact with the items. In every single room we entered, they were just barking orders: 'Don't touch, don't lean, don't do this, don't do that.' It was incredibly frustrating, especially given the heat. To make matters worse, one of the girls working with the tour guide kept complaining out loud, saying, 'Oh my God, oh my God, these kids.' It was very unprofessional.

As you may be aware of, the preserve is home to the Holocaust museum for the county (which I plan on visiting sometime soon). If you find parking on the left side of the building (the side with the butterfly garden) you will find the abandoned building on the right side of the museum, as if you venture down to the water. There's a few buildings to see and the history behind them is pretty cool. Next time I will have to bring my Canon to take some nicer shots. Wear good gripping shoes as it can be muddy and you'll slip and side a bit. There are signs for no dogs but plenty of people brought their Fido's and Fifi's.

We really enjoyed it. We started by the mansion. It's suppose to be a museum but it' is closed due to COVID. There is lots of woods with many different paths to walk. They set it up nicely with small bridges over a stream with rocks. The path we took led us to the ocean. There is a beach in one side and the LI sound on the other. We walked for almost an hour and it was very enjoyable. We didn't get to see the abandoned buildings with graffiti on them because of the timing . However we will be coming back possibly earlier to be able to see more. Definitely worth the trip.
