Guide is the proverbial "best guide in the world". But they will take your money and not look back. Saying they have thousands of contacts a day and are too busy to respond to you. Didn't start off with a good impression at the 4am meet and departure. Cap'n was not very friendly, provided no information or instructions and didn't offer life jackets. Motored to the first spot, cap'n set lines out, trolled and we had a few bites. Caught two fish, he didn't even measure them to see if they were the required 19 inch minimum, looked like they might have been. Motored to another spot, repeat the process with even less success. Minimally, in 5 hours I'd have thought he could have tried more locations than two. How long do you troll over fish not biting before moving on. That was the morning, two stops, three fish he didn't measure. I'm a fisherman, I get not catching fish, but only after I work at it, didn't seem like cap'n was putting in much effort. This was the worst guide service I have ever used, and I've used quite a few. All was great during the sales pitch, phone call and all, then... 1st, zero contact after I sent the deposit., 2nd, after driving from Fort Worth, no answer to calls and had to text the night before the afternoon trip to find out where to go and when, 3rd, I arrive at the location and find out I do not have Mike, but someone else (fine if you know, bad if you don't), 4th, the guide took me a short distance from the dock, then trolled around for hours with no fish sighted on the electronics. I am not a complete rookie, and I know that you can't catch fish all the time, but you definitely cannot catch them where they aren't, and this guide had no clue. The weather was perfect, and it is really disappointing that minimal effort was made to try to find fish. Unfortunately, I heard all about the guide's sad life choices, and what a great state fishing record-setter he was. Spend your money on a different guide. read more

1st time trip. it's was a doozy. My wife and I are older, not quite to the geriatric stage but we don't get around as good as we used to. My wife has mobility issues and she is plus sized. I made it very clear, in advance (a week) that she would require a little more time. The evening before the trip I finally got a text with the trip details. The time was 0400 Saturday morning. No problem, we were staying in Eureka Springs about 10 miles away. We got up and drove to the dam site ramp and in the pitch black night, zero moon and partly cloudy we began our adventure. We got married in Eureka 18 years ago and this was a trip we had talked about for years and the timing was perfect as a part of our anniversary trip. Here's where it gets interesting. I let my wife out and parked. I walked down to the ramp and in the darkness except for a solitary marker light on the boat I could kinda feel the vibe that we were in a hurry so we figured out how to get my wife into the boat. Next I stepped on board and tried to get my vision adjusted to the pitch black and gently rocking unfamiliar boat. Our guide Mike indicated where I was to sit in the back of the boat which is a nice long deck boat with a Honda motor that could power a small aircraft carrier. Did I mention that it was dark? I maneuvered to the seat and began to turn around and was stooping to lower myself to the seat when at that particular moment Captain Mike chose to kick the running motor into gear and goose the throttle. I saw that but the movement of the boat and my half turned, half stooping position meant I kind of lost balance at that point and slammed into the back of the boat where luckily, some poles were standing, otherwise I am pretty sure I would have gone out the back. I slammed into whatever was there in that black night My hip and upper leg took the brunt of the fall. It hurt pretty bad and I sat there for a moment trying to decide if it anything was broken. Captain Mike seemed a little put out. After I got up and seated he picked up the poles I crashed in to, specifically showing me the broken one that my hip and leg had broken. He actually slammed it to the deck like I had any control over any of it. The rest of the trip wasn't really memorable save for the burning pain in my hip where I have a knot and 2 big scratches , luckily no hook in me. I did reel in 1 baby fish as Captain Mike put it only 14 pounds so no big accomplishment. He also told me I didn't listen very well when it took me a couple of trys to get my rhythm going with the lure. Hard of hearing could be why I have hearing aids? We asked if we could go back 2 hours early. He was gracious enough. My wife pointed out afterwards that ol Captain Mike never apologized once. He just shrugged it off like normal wear and tear and I simply apologized for being a burden and he swiped the card, I am almost 60, a veteran and I simply took a trip described as great, 1 I had always wanted to do but never found the time. I told them ahead of time our issues and frankly if old Captain Mike were my employee and not his own boss. I would make him walk the plank. I got injured and treated like unwanted baggage on a 360 dollar trip. I personally don't recommend it for the novice or not as limber person. Neither my wife or I would want to go again. Captain Mike loosened up a bit towards the (early) end of the trip. He made small talk. I think he may not have realized that even older people enjoy a good fishing trip and may have never done it before . Either way, he had very little patience, didn't give instructions for squat very well and totally forgot what customer service should be. Not to mention a simple sorry over me tumbling into the back of the boat because he accidentally hit the throttle when he put it in gear. It hurt. All we wanted was to feel good on the water for a few hours but like the song says, you can't always get what you want, we sure didn't. He may be the greatest fishing guide known to beaver lake but we sure don't think so. My hip hurts and my ideas of a successful fishing trip are changed. I didn't even keep the 14 pound baby. Didn't want nothing more to do with that adventure. read more
