It's a really nice idea for wedding favours and all you need to do is choose what kind of sweets it is you're after and Lickety Splits will gift wrap everything into little favours, very cute. The decor is gorgeous with wooden flooring, quirky tables and polka dot patterns, it's very bright and airy and all the sweets are organised in glass tubs on fresh white painted shelves. My favourite sweeties have to be the little chocolate cups they're so addictive and moreish. I only found out about this place last week but I think I'll be popping in quite a bit now I know it's there, I could go for some fried eggs just now actually.

The lady in the shop was very knowledgable about her stock. She was able to match people with their local sweets and talk a lot about the changes sweets have gone through over the years (no more cocaine on our sweeties!!). The gallery/gift shop area was a nice little browse too. The shop is very small so our group of 10 was a bit squashed when some other shoppers arrived. The shop is dog friendly and had some water and food outside for any visiting pooches!

They do all sorts of combinations and whilst the marshmallow kebab dipped in melted chocolate is a favourite of many, that's a little bit of a sugar overload in my opinion. I opted for a strawberry kebab instead, which was heavenly but I have two reservations; I feel like I could have recreated it at home with a bar of good quality chocolate and some strawberries from Tescos. Whatsmore, it was quite messy to eat. It's not that pricey, and worth a try. Just be armed with a lotttt of tissue paper!

I had my sights on this place during my visit to Edinburgh but I only managed to get it on my final…read moreday before my flight back. This place is right by The Vennel so it was a convenient location on my midday stroll. I first walked by and there was maybe 10 people in line so I decided to get it after visiting The Vennel. On my way back there were only 3 people ahead of me so great timing to enjoy delicious gelato in the cold but clear skies overlooking the castle. And I did just that. I was torn between the Salted Caramel and the Pistachio and I knew I couldn't finish 2 full scoops. The worker saw the indecision painted all over my face and recommended the Pistachio since it was a limited item. So I went with that. To my surprise she also included a large spoonful of the Salted Caramel just so I can try it too! Such a nice gesture. So there I was enjoying the creamy, delicious gelato sitting on a bench just across from Mary's Milk Bar. All the while indulging and soaking in the magnificent view of the castle and the very tasty gelato :)

I've not been in the other stores so unfortunately can't compare, but I'll admit I felt a bit underwhelmed by Holipop. The store feels a bit under stocked, and of what it does have it carries some sweets that you can get in most stores here. They certainly do have some retro-ish things and some American candies but I guess I was expecting a more old-fashioned funky feel to the place. The kind of place where you could get £1 worth soor plooms or something. That being said, the staff were nice and accommodating. I got the impression that they would happily at least try to order in what you're looking for. So, overall I found it to be a bit less than I was expecting but still A-OK.
