Chicken Shawarma Sandwich w/ all White Meat!
    Laura C.

Wow - echoing what a few other reviewers have said: I've been meaning to come here for FOREVER & finally made it! A friend is a loyal Baiz customer & brought me for my first visit. So much good stuff that's unbelievably, affordably priced! What I love: *Produce prices - .69 cents for a bunch of mint; Yes please *Buy by the pound: kalamata olives, three kinds of feta (Bulgarian, Danish, Greek), labneh (creamy Greek yogurt) *Butcher dept w/ anything & everything including those lamb tongues (in photo) - not something I'd eat but each to their own *Pastry dept - they must have about THIRTY different kinds of pastries from pistachio & nutella baklava to traditional ma'amoul cookies *Spice aisle w/ an enormous range of spices from the familiar, cinnamon, to the more exotic (for me), za'atar *All the flavored waters, like rose water and orange blossom water, w/ many brands to choose from * Restaurant/cafe w/ seating area - lunched on a chicken shwarma sandwich & friend lunched on a beef shwarma sandwich; sandwiches are served on thin bread like lahvosh vs. a pita bread For $21 smackeroos, I got the following groceries: Feta cheese/1/2 pound Bottle of rose water Mint bunch Three Persian cukes 1& 1/2 lb of sweet potatoes Pumpkin seeds/8 oz Walnuts/1 pound Cream-topped yogurt/32 oz This same grocery list would be twice the price at Fry's so yes, I'm a new fan of Baiz! Thank you for offering so much to our community.

This market has a great selection of fresh and shelved food for great prices. I couldn't believe how much I got for under $20. They also have a little restaurant inside where you can eat or get food to go. I'll be back very soon.

Nice Middle Eastern grocery store with good prices on many items. They have an wide selection of various beans, pickled vegetables, cheeses, dates, meats & much more. You can also find frozen gyros & pastries. Ultimately, If you're looking for a new & interesting you may have found your place. Lot's of spices & other world delights to try. The store has a restaurant inside of it which had good food. I love trying new places, I'm happy this place is only a few miles from my place. I recommend it & will be back. Happy eating & shopping

Chicken Shawarma, seasoned basmati rice and the garlic sauce...the garlic sauce is MAGIC!!!! Also tomatoes and pickle relish.

About 18 months ago, a friend (who is a famous bargain hunter) brought me here for lunch. It is close to the downtown core with ample parking. It's a middle eastern supermarket with a fresh food counter and seating area. They have interesting pastries and meat or veggie flatbread 'pies' and several great entrees. For about $10, you can get a plate with a main meat or veg (beef kebab, kafta/koobideh, beef or chicken shawarma or, do a little more, lamb) with this, you get a heap of rice, pickles, sliced tomato, hummus or garlic sauce and two pieces of super light, puffy pita. The garlic sauce is ***magical***! But your "meal" is at least 2 meals, unless you are a lumberjack or something. My vegetarian friends love the hummus, baba ghanouj, tabbouli, salads and falafel options. To those less familiar with ethnic markets, it may seem odd to find a supermarket with fresh, hot food service in one space but it isn't uncommon in ethnic markets. This is one worth checking out if you like middle eastern, Turkish, Greek, Persian, Lebanese or Afghani cuisine.

    Falafel sandwich

Alright, I've been in twice now. I dig this little grocery/market with a "restaurant" area. I'm not sure if that's what one might call it. There's a counter and a menu and a seating area. They have cheese hand pies, meat and cheese hand pies, and meat pies. Shawarma, lamb shank, fatoosh salad, babagabosh, tabbouleh (I may have butchered all those spellings, if so, my apologies).... Last week, I had a bite of my buddy's beef shawarma sandwich and I'm not gonna fib, I wanted another bite. It was delicious. Today, I had my own falafel sandwich (that whole kinda vegetarian, kinda vegan thing I am some times, most of the time whatever). Anyhow, I had to try it. For less than $5! Mmmm, I could literally taste the sesame from the tahini mmmmm.... I do believe there is one gentleman making the digs and so, orders can pile up quickly and there may be a wait. I was surprised I didn't wait longer today. So kudos for him likely getting the quickest to make out first. I noticed last week we did wait a bit but it was worth it, for me. You could say, place an order do a wander and a shop around their store and come back for your food when it's ready. They seem to have decent prices on some of the produce and a whole store with so many items. I mean, halva of many varieties, honey comb and honey, pitas, beans and beans and beans, legumes, rice upon rice to choose from, things I haven't seen in a long while. Oh, if you are going to do a light shop, minimum on card purchases is $10 (bring cash?). I did notice some of the items I decided against, but I still got a few on my list. Personally? I'll come weekly just for the restaurant.

Veggie Combo - falafel, tabbouli salad, hummus, baba ghanouj and grape leaves.
    Deepti V.

The veggie combo platter was a delight! The falafel was crispy on the outside, super soft on the inside and it was delicious. I loved the falafel the most in the combo because it was one of the best falafels I ever had. The grape leaves, the tabbouli salad both had the sour kick to it and complemented perfectly with the platter. The ground chicken kebab was full of flavor. Basmati rice was perfectly cooked. In all I enjoyed the meal and will definitely order from this place again. Both the plates come with a side of pita. I would recommend the falafel and the veggie platter to anyone who would want to give this place a try!

I purchased these breads at the 20 street location, all were burned on the back side, one piece of bread in each bag was turned over so people don't see the burned bread. Shame on you to cheat people like that, I wonder what else they are cheating on. I will never buy anything here anymore.

Roasted Pepper Appetizer. A DELICIOUS spread, condiment, and good added to recipes!

I only ended up here because I've been on a bit of a backyard cooking kick lately. We've got a full outdoor kitchen and smoker, and today we're hosting a crowd, so I figured I'd go hunt down a solid brisket. That quick errand turned into something else entirely. Walked in and immediately knew I wasn't in a typical grocery store meat section. The selection is on another level. I went in with tunnel vision for brisket and walked out with a beautiful cut, plus a leg of lamb and a few Wagyu steaks that I absolutely did not plan on buying. No regrets. The quality speaks for itself. Everything looked fresh, well-cut, and handled by people who clearly know what they're doing. Not just tossing meat in a case and calling it a day. There were also some more unique options that caught my eye, the kind of stuff you don't usually see unless you're really looking for it. Definitely gave me a few ideas for future weekends. What really stuck with me though was the staff. Genuinely friendly, easy to talk to, and helpful without hovering. I asked a couple questions and got real answers, not some rehearsed script. You can tell they take pride in what they're selling. If you're into cooking, especially if you've got a smoker and like experimenting a bit, this place is dangerous in the best way. I came in for one thing and left with a whole game plan. Safe to say I'll be back next time we're in town.

Theirs is the hot buttered with chives sprinkled on top and a bag of chips. There were Huge pieces of lobster meat and a lot of it. So much so that pieces fell out while trying to wrap my lips around it. I also bought a pound of Faroe Island Salmon that I'm excited to grill. It was very cool of the Tap Room (next door) to allow me to eat my lunch on their picnic tables outside without ordering a drink. I came after lunch so it wasn't busy. I won't sugar coat it, Nelson's is pricey. The roll was $34. However they have fish that you can't find elsewhere. The ahi tuna was beautiful but I already set my mind to the salmon. I was surprised they even had guanciale (pork jowel) which is sought after in Italian pasta dishes. It's a bit of a drive for me but next time I want a toasted buttery lobster roll I will come to Nelson's!

So, after searching up and down, I stumbled upon Nelson's. I came by for an early lunch. This location is a very small place, really only big enough for a few fridges full of meats/fish, as well as the counter itself. I came in, and I took a little bit to decide what I wanted from the menu, and settled on a shrimp salad sandwich and a half pound of salmon poke. Before, during, and after the ordering process, I feel like the gentleman behind the counter was a little cold and not wanting to talk to me much. It seemed like I was inconveniencing him, so I felt bad about that. For that reason, I didn't really try to make conversation. I hope his day got better! I took the food togo, of course, and I ate the shrimp sandwich first. The seasoning was really great, and the salad was really well balanced. Mayo, onions, chives, cabbage: everything was well-represented and nothing was overbearingly seasoned. Yummy sandwich! The bread was a little drier than I would have liked, but very minor. It also came with Zapp's chips! Always a plus in my book. The poke? Delicious. I get the price. It's expensive, but it's the middle of a desert in 115 degree weather. Great representation of salmon poke, and super well seasoned with pacific island flavors that are certainly reminiscent of the stuff you'd get on the island! If you're looking for a wonderful seafood experience, I'm confident you'd like Nelson's in Phoenix.
