This little rock was buried in the food they served me. It hurt pretty bad and could've easily damaged a tooth.

I went in here last night and ordered carne asada tacos with a side of rice and beans. After a few bites, this small rock that was hidden in the food almost did serious damage to my tooth. It caused me a lot of pain. When I showed it to the guy making the food behind the counter, he just shrugged and walked away like it was nothing. That attitude says everything about this place. I'll be reporting them to the Health Department. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!

The front entrance to the butcher shop and their wood fired grill's.

OMG! Authentic Carne Asada tacos. My benchmark from Mexican restaurants has always been their Carne Asada tacos. Los Reyes Carnecería scored 9 out of 10. (I don't believe there are 10's) The Carne Asada is cooked on wood-fired grills right outside the front door and chopped to bite-size. Most Carne Asada in my experience is tough. Theirs was very tender and very tasty, which I assume was due to the quality of their meat. (After all, it is a butcher shop.) The tortillas were uber fresh, as were the salsas. They will make the tacos (and everything else) to your specifications with your choice of garnishes, salsas, guacamole, etc. I topped my tacos off with the classic cilantro, onion, and salsa verde. I'm so excited. I can't wait to go back.

Best chicken I've ever had hands down. I'm not a big meat-eater by any measure but had to put the chicken away in the fridge for the next day otherwise I would have eaten the whole thing in one sitting. Not sure if they do this every day but they were grilling chicken outside and I got mine fresh off the grill. I was the only person speaking English inside but that's how you know it's legit and not a tourist trap. Only thing to be aware of is that Pollo al Carbon really means a whole chicken! It's a massive amount of meat so only get that if you can save some for later or are with others. I'm sure the other meats like the Carne Asada are terrific too, I don't eat red meat but if I did would have certainly got some of that too.

Not very glamorous mexican supermarket, but the food is delicious! The whole right side of the market is a hot foods area - tacos, burritos, gorditos, you name it. Prices are super affordable and they cut the meat/prep the dish right in front of you! Salsa is super spicy.

I only ended up here because I've been on a bit of a backyard cooking kick lately. We've got a full outdoor kitchen and smoker, and today we're hosting a crowd, so I figured I'd go hunt down a solid brisket. That quick errand turned into something else entirely. Walked in and immediately knew I wasn't in a typical grocery store meat section. The selection is on another level. I went in with tunnel vision for brisket and walked out with a beautiful cut, plus a leg of lamb and a few Wagyu steaks that I absolutely did not plan on buying. No regrets. The quality speaks for itself. Everything looked fresh, well-cut, and handled by people who clearly know what they're doing. Not just tossing meat in a case and calling it a day. There were also some more unique options that caught my eye, the kind of stuff you don't usually see unless you're really looking for it. Definitely gave me a few ideas for future weekends. What really stuck with me though was the staff. Genuinely friendly, easy to talk to, and helpful without hovering. I asked a couple questions and got real answers, not some rehearsed script. You can tell they take pride in what they're selling. If you're into cooking, especially if you've got a smoker and like experimenting a bit, this place is dangerous in the best way. I came in for one thing and left with a whole game plan. Safe to say I'll be back next time we're in town.

Theirs is the hot buttered with chives sprinkled on top and a bag of chips. There were Huge pieces of lobster meat and a lot of it. So much so that pieces fell out while trying to wrap my lips around it. I also bought a pound of Faroe Island Salmon that I'm excited to grill. It was very cool of the Tap Room (next door) to allow me to eat my lunch on their picnic tables outside without ordering a drink. I came after lunch so it wasn't busy. I won't sugar coat it, Nelson's is pricey. The roll was $34. However they have fish that you can't find elsewhere. The ahi tuna was beautiful but I already set my mind to the salmon. I was surprised they even had guanciale (pork jowel) which is sought after in Italian pasta dishes. It's a bit of a drive for me but next time I want a toasted buttery lobster roll I will come to Nelson's!

So, after searching up and down, I stumbled upon Nelson's. I came by for an early lunch. This location is a very small place, really only big enough for a few fridges full of meats/fish, as well as the counter itself. I came in, and I took a little bit to decide what I wanted from the menu, and settled on a shrimp salad sandwich and a half pound of salmon poke. Before, during, and after the ordering process, I feel like the gentleman behind the counter was a little cold and not wanting to talk to me much. It seemed like I was inconveniencing him, so I felt bad about that. For that reason, I didn't really try to make conversation. I hope his day got better! I took the food togo, of course, and I ate the shrimp sandwich first. The seasoning was really great, and the salad was really well balanced. Mayo, onions, chives, cabbage: everything was well-represented and nothing was overbearingly seasoned. Yummy sandwich! The bread was a little drier than I would have liked, but very minor. It also came with Zapp's chips! Always a plus in my book. The poke? Delicious. I get the price. It's expensive, but it's the middle of a desert in 115 degree weather. Great representation of salmon poke, and super well seasoned with pacific island flavors that are certainly reminiscent of the stuff you'd get on the island! If you're looking for a wonderful seafood experience, I'm confident you'd like Nelson's in Phoenix.

It wasn't easy for me to find parking, even late at night, but I did find one space nearby. It seemed like about 20-25% of their floorspace is alcohol, but in the rest they have a very wide variety of things, tailored to the local college student population. They have a small selection of fresh produce, they have fresh meats and cheeses, as well as a lot of canned/preserved foods and frozen foods. They also have a small/basic selection of pet supplies and they have kitchen utensils. Overall this seems like a very versatile shop, having just about everything you need, until 2am. The place was clean, well lit, and I was very comfortable shopping late at night. The cashier was polite and friendly, though he didn't offer me a receipt and I didn't notice until later, and I would have liked one. Oh well. I bought a pre-made turkey & cheese croissant sandwich for $7 and it was decent.
