In 2023 the biological father (whom I never married) hired a lawyer for custody of my daughter. I…read morewas naive and needed guidance and hired Chris Adkins. During my negotiation for the Temporary Parenting Arrangement I notice Chris did not negotiate the terms of the TPA draft or provide any legal guidance regarding the written terms. The father is an airline pilot, and he gets to choose monthly custody schedules. I am always on standby having no ability to make plans. Yet Chris did not challenge. I told Chris that my one-year-old daughter was still very young and cries out with unfamiliar person. I need time to sooth her before our exchange. But he never passed my concern to the other lawyer. I was demanded to hand over the child at 9AM promptly the next day. It hurt me deeply to see my baby cried very bad that day and thereafter and I can do nothing to help her. I and my husband spent weeks gathering and labeling all necessary documents, but Chris still show up in court unprepared. We observed him often flipping pages making the judge waited. We worked so hard and spent so much money only to witness this very poor performance by Chris in court. The other lawyer was precise and to the point. Chris made me look bad on the stand. He kept pressing me to provide details I had no ability to answer. Chris didn't EVEN REMEMBER MY CHILD'S NAME in court! He kept confusing her first name with mine and fumbling her name, and kept apologizing. Yet my daughter is the most important person in our cases! On the surname change motion, Chris quietly and nervously advised me in private that the other party needed an affidavit from me and must go through "many hurdles" to proceed and we can postpone it indefinitely. NOT true! It turns out the court sent the signed order from the judge to the Division of Vital Records to have my child's surname changed. That's it, no affidavit or BS is required that Chris advised. His paralegal Ana didn't prepare certain charts for Exhibits in court which I have prepared. I pointed this out. At first, she insisted said documents were included in Exhibits which we confirmed were not. Eventually they distributed the missing documents on the next court date. Clearly, these people are not doing their jobs and not take accountabilities. I spent over $70,000 dollars on this firm, but have NOT gotten one judgement in my favor! They also overcharged. For instance, Chris charged me 8 hours for the 3 hours of the second court date. Another lawyer pointed out that Chris charged me .3 hour to review a one-page document that should takes 5 minutes. I spent a lot to prepare the Motion for Contempt charges against the father. Yet Chris never mentioned to me that the motion will be withdrawn. Only IN court did Chris told me it must be withdrawn to "not rub the judge's the wrong way". This is a hint of how manipulative Chris is. In addition, Chris never sends me the final draft for permanent custody to review. I found out from the biological father, telling me the judge had signed off the order! Some items stated by the judge were intentionally left out by the father's lawyer, such as "Father cannot have more than 50% custody on any given month". Father now takes advantage of the omission. Chris DIDN'T BOTHER TO CHALLENGE OR REVIEW THE FINAL DRAFT! This wrecked the livelihood of my child and me and billed me for the time he never worked. During my most vulnerable periods of 3 years, Chris has cheated me out of thousands of dollars on several occasions by overcharged fees, and for works he never performed. It seems whatever comes along from the opposition lawyer, Chris either ignores or accepts, always kept me in the dark and only for me to find out after the facts that ruled in favor of the other party. My current husband submitted financial documents during discoveries, but Chris's people still asked him for them. The Motion to Quash that Chris filed for my current husband was filed after the 10 days allowable grace period. Now I know Chris did many things to take advantage of me when I was most fragile and desperate. This so-called family law "firm" is shady. They took advantage of me financially, poorly representing my cases, not being accountable, lying, manipulating me. Chris failed to perform his due diligence at my most vulnerable time. I and my daughter now suffer the consequences. As of February 2026, another lawyer told me there was a pending lawsuit against Chris Adkins from his former client.

As a husband, I paid Chris to help me sue a guy (airline pilot) for "alienation of affection" and…read more"criminal conversation" for his relationship with my wife resulting in a minor child. After spending nearly $40k to prepare my cases, Regina urged me last minute to drop the cases and just accept the low-ball settlement. So right there this firm doesn't have my interests in mind. Knowing now how poorly Chris performed in court for wife's custody, I will lose on either end with my own cases. I paided for two large portraits to be used in court. They only returned one and "managed" to lose the other large portrait. The way they handle these small asks resemble how they handle our cases. Per my wife's custody case versus this biological father, I ask Regina via email a simple question pertaining to getting a Revocable Trust account to leverage against the minor child's surname change. Her reply was, "I can't tell you how much weight it would hold". Regina could not elaborate further and charged me $60 for the 2 minutes email reply. These are their legal advices. I complained to Chris, and he said he will look into this matter but he never did. When it comes to money their issues then become priority, not mine. Also, I spoke with the legal secretary Jayda regarding not informing my wife and me of the signed permanent custody order by the judge,, causing us to miss the appeal window. Even with their mishandling of my wife's custody case and inability to inform us of the signed permament custody order, Jayda charged me $65 for the phone call! Some time later Jayda called me requesting documents which I already handed to them and obtained their signature for proof of receipt. Jayda was going to charge me additional fees when I told her to check the front desk for my documents. I told her I have signed proof they were received. She agree not to charge me afterward! SMDH I also requested multiple times (pleading) for them to return my thumb drives (about eight drives clearly labeled with wife's name) containing our private financial statements and documents. They only returned 3 drives and somehow misplaced the others containing our confidential financial data. More incompetence! These people are irresponsible and don't care about our issues. There are other reputable law firms which I should have venture but unfortunately, I chose Adkins Law and getting less than substandard representations. Their paralegal Ana prepared video/audio evidence for court of the minor child "speaking". Have Ana ever studied "hearsay" in the legal system? And Chris handed them out in court. I confronted them afterward to tell them this makes us look bad. Same atttitude. Your issue, your lost. And we subpoena JetBlue for the father's "work schedule". Ana requested "flight schedules". Even after JetBlue wanted clarity from her for either "leisure schedules" or "work schedules". Ana persisted, "Yes we need flight schedules". We spent thousands of dollars only to receive worthless "buddy pass schedules" from Jetblue. I pointed this out. Chris charged me more money for them to correctly reply with "We need work schedules". I literally told this firm how to correctly reply to the email! Similar to the incident above with Jayda, I had to submit the same discovery documents to this "law" firm a few times before because the other party continues to ask me and accuse me of not complying. Chris people failed to submit and misplaced. That said, I required them to sign acknowledgement of receipt to ensure their accountability whenever I submit my documents to them. What type of law firm require their client to resort to this, while charging clients tens of thousands of dollars! I must conclude this firm tries hard to fail our cases and extract our finances. They sent us thousand of dollars in invoices during the slow months with no scheduled dates. Yet Chris still showed up in court unprepared for custody cases!

I couldn't believe my luck to find Mr. Jeter who has an office in Fort Mill, SC and is also licensed to practice in NC! The first session was free as promised. I felt Mr. Jeter was engaged in the interaction and very interested in what I was looking to get out of the process. I decided to move forward with the estate planning package (my first in this state) and Mr. Jeter continued to be a pleasure to work with. He gave me great advice on what the consequences of some of my wishes would turn out to be like if written exactly as I was originally thinking, and how we could turn them into more appropriate documents to support the intent of what I was hoping to achieve with my estate. I was very involved and very detail-oriented in the process, and he was very accommodating with my questions and concerns and made any necessary changes until the package was better than I originally expected. There were legal documents I wasn't even aware of from my previous lawyer and I appreciated that he included them in the package to be sure my wishes, and personal and financial welfare and property, are protected by the available law (whether I'm incapacitated or passed). Mr. Jeter's office was on top of executing the documents, arranging our appointments, and very hospitable and pleasant. Given all the documents and work that went into my package, I also felt that the fee Mr. Jeter quoted in the beginning was reasonable and fair. I'm grateful to have found Mr. Jeter and would recommend him to anyone who needs to do estate planning in NC or SC.
