I came here for the second time with my family. I was sadly disappointed. The place was a little too warm and I extremely disliked the sticky tables (it wasn't dirty, but an unfortunate table top finish issue). We ordered quite a bit of food. The appetizers (calamari, mozza sticks, and wings) were great! Very solid choices although personally the wings (medium) were a little too sweet for us. Service was ok but the waitress did seem a bit stressed. The mains, however, were a bit disappointing. The burgers were just ok, my halloumi in the halloumi salad was burnt (although the salad itself was great), and the children's cheese sandwich was also burnt. The fish & chips were very oily. Usually I really want to like and rate local establishments well as I am a local myself, but burnt food is a no-no and unfortunately with kids I don't really have the time to ask for a remake. Came for a Sunday lunch while in the area. Simply loved the look of the place and got to sit on the upstairs veranda ... perfect. Set ourselves up with a West Avenue Heritage dry cider and ordered a Poke Tuna Bowl and a Beef Dip. First of all, the service was excellent. Warm, friendly and genuine. I even spilled a whole glass of cider and they replaced it free of charge. The food was very good and we would certainly come back. Highly recommend this for a wonderful lunch. read more

I was in Guelph for a couple of hours and wanted to eat poutine. I found this place through yelp and when I saw that they serve short rib poutine, I wanted to check out this pub. The poutine was quality. No sodium aftertaste. I didn't feel like I had to drink a gallon of water after. The cheese was melted perfectly and the gravy was the right amount that the dish didn't look like a stew. The fries were frites like cut and was not over soggy from the gravy. This was a cute and quaint place my friends and I went when I was visiting Guelph. The food was delicious and home cooked. They use fresh ingredients, and have seasonal menus - this can be good and bad b/c one day a dish you love may not be there anymore, but at the same time the new stuff may be better! The service was a bit slow at times, but on the plus side, this is a place you could hang around and have a few long drinks. Prices weren't too bad. Not a bad place for a bite, however we did have a few issues. For starters, we came on a Saturday night at around 8pm and the place was pretty packed, it was a group of 6 so we had to split up into pairs in order to get seated for tables (otherwise it would have been another hour wait). We eventually were able to have 4 of us at the same table but the other two of our party were split up for the rest of our dinner stay. If you plan on coming as a group of 5+ on a Friday/Saturday night, make sure you make reservations before hand as this place can get busy. This was fine as we didn't mind splitting up. The problem was with the wait on the food, we ended up waiting for over 45 minutes before our entrees came and were told that this was due to switching to having four of us at the same table..this shouldn't have been a problem as our orders had already been made before that happened. The food itself was decent, I ordered the salmon poke bowl (almost like a de constructed sushi roll) which was a pretty large portion of food for $15 before tax and tips. Friday night, getting off a hectic 12 hr shift in the ER and heading on a surprise drive to Guelph! We Yelped a restauran to eat at and found this amazing, cozy location placed on a quiet street. It looks like an old character home that was renovated into a two story pub. The main floor has the bar with TVs playing the game and the local men hanging out with the bros having a few beers and chatting up the bartender like an episode of Cheers! We found a two person table along the wall and gazed among the walls at the chalkboards displaying the day's Feature meals, drinks, desserts and our favorite board "Grazing" for the tapas menu. A line was drawn through Potato Skin Nachos, mmm too bad. Places like this are small and run out of their top sellers fast. So we decided on three tapas: - Tempura Onion Rings :large portion of large onion rings presented on a cheese board, with real parmasean shavings spinkled over top. On the side, a little dipping bowl of creamy garlic sauce. YUM! - Rarebit:Had no idea what we were ordering I thought is was some kind of rare steak bits but to my surprise it was a form of glorious, Welsh cheesy bread. "Welsh Rabbit" some call it, is a dish of savory cheesy fondu with other ingredients poured over toasted bread! It's delish! Please try it! - Forgive me but I can't remember the name but they were deep fried breaded steak bites of some sort. They were tender and deliciously dipped in a jus that tingled the tastebuds. We washed everything down with, his fav pick, a traditonally made real Olde Fashioned and my pick, one of the special Pear Cider Slushies! So refreshing and not too sweet! So, I've had some good and bad experiences here. Mostly good though. Most recently, on February the 23rd, I had a bad experience. I came for brunch with a friend. We asked for a small taste of wine to see if we liked it, before ordering a full glass. The waitress rolled her eyes and sighed. I ordered a vegan dish and confirmed with her that it was vegan. She said it was. When the person who delivered our food dropped it off, she mentioned the dressing contained egg. So, I asked the waitress if I could please have a vegan dish, as planned. She rudely picked up half the plate and spilled 1/2 of it on my purse. Twenty minutes later (as my friend's brunch was now cold) she slammed down a new plate, never bothering to wipe up the mess she left. Disastrous. Don't miss this epic lack of basic customer service. read more

My fiancé and I went to the Baker Street Station when in Guelph for a weekend, and it was great! Small place in the bar area, but the staff are wonderful and friendly. We got beer, a Caesar, the nachos, burger + fries and tandoori fried chicken. The nachos were on the lighter side and were fresh and tasty! The burger-according to my fiancé-didn't make him feel fat afterwards and tasted good! The tandoori fried chicken was so flavourful and full of spices and was just the perfect portion of food as well. TVs are easy to see so if you're looking to watch some sports, this is a great place with solid food. It's a fairly tiny space and some tables are small and close to each other and the bathroom is also tiny (so if that matters to you - now you know). Update: we returned again while in town and had perfect food once again! Now that we've been a few times, always a Friday or Saturday night, it's worth mentioning you need to reserve early in the day or the day prior to get your preferred time. Both times, we have waited for 25-35 minutes at the bar or elsewhere between the hours of 5-9pm. read more

The best spot to take new comers to Guelph who enjoy some beer, patio dates, and yummy yummy food. Especially the Beef tartare! I go there for that dish my husband enjoys the wide variety of beers. Tip: the beef tartare sells quick and also its seasonal so definitely try it when you can! read more

We had lunch here on an early Monday afternoon. It must be a fairly quiet day for lunch as only the upstairs portion was open. And had very prompt and extremely friendly service from our waitress slash bartender. My husband was impressed with all of the local Ontario craft Brewers that they had on tap which was about 20. While their menu was not expensive it certainly had a wide variety to it. My husband had ramen noodles with duck and soy eggs in it that he devoured and was full for the rest of the day. I had one of the appetizers which was tuna poke nachos which were delicious and had just the right edge of spiciness to them. That along with a refreshing glass of Ontario Riesling made for a great lunch. I thought they are a little on the high side price-wise for lunch especially as compared to their next door neighbor the Wooly Pub. Plenty of Vegan/ vegetarian options for a small menu. read more

When I went, the wait time was ridiculous. They said it would be ten mins when it was close to an hour. They didn't offer or seat us at the bar to wait either so it was pretty much standing awkwardly for the most part until we sat ourselves down for five mins to get to our table. The whole place is loud as fuck! So if you want to get blatantly drunk, you're at the right place but if you wanted to eat and watch a game, don't come here. It's too obnoxiously loud to concentrate. It was hard to choose food or even enjoy it because half way through I was getting a headache from the noise. The food wasn't all that great, average really. I ordered mussels but I've had better and some were just empty shells. We're talking half and half. My boyfriend ordered the vindaloo. It was apparently spicy but some areas had more spice than others so it dealt with an unevenly balanced plate and it was a gamble for every bite. I'm not coming back here. read more

Frugal Mcdougall's used to be a popular downtown pub until closing recently. The restaurant was updated, classed up and changed its name to Baker Street Station. I came here for lunch today with five people, and there are a few different areas where you can choose to dine. These include two levels of outdoor patios, the main floor bar area, or upstairs which is what we chose. We just came for food, but they had a few delicious drink options like their lemonade or pimms cup which i would like to come back for. I had the fish and chips which i hardly get in a restaurant because i have had what i consider to be the best fish and chips from NYC's A Salt and battery, so it is difficult to find a comparable one. The chips had a good flavour unfortunately they were a bit too salty, and clumped together. The fish really benefited from the squeeze of lemon, the fish was flaky but unfortunately didn't find it that flavourful. My sis had the burger and it was just your basic burger, they didn't go crazy with the toppings, they opted for simplicity. The homemade ketchup and aoili were delicious, i appreciate the time they take to make them in house. Three out of the six people at the tabled had the feature which was the club sandwich. There was a generous amount of chicken on the sandwich, the bread was nicely toasted, and overall it was a great sandwich. Many of the items come with fries and a salad which is nice that you get both sides, since most establishments limit you to one. Overall i would come back, next time i really want to try their breakfast, or come back for drinks on the patio. The restaurant was slightly short staffed, we waited quite awhile before placing our order, from start to finish we were in the restaurant for close to 2 hours which is an unrealistic time to wait for a work lunch. read more

This really amused me. Baker Street station? Can I pay with my Oyster card? I would really love to meet the owner some time and find out his reasons for naming this place after a mundane, utilitarian, London tube interchange. For all of my bewilderment, I was truly happy with my visits to Baker Street Station. I would say, if somewhere, somehow in life you find yourself in Guelph, Ontario, most definitely pay this place a visit. The staff here were all truly excellent (way better than you would ever find around Baker Street in London) and helped answer any questions that I had about the Food & Drink menu in a charming, friendly manner. After perusing the extensive drink menu, I chose to try many of the different whiskeys & Bourbons, that they had here. Bearing in mind that I had to walk through a foot of snow to get up the steps, I felt that I needed something warming! It's great to experience something new and I will definitely remember when and where was the first time that I tried the exquisite Tap 357 Maple rye whiskey. And so on to the food. I had heard a lot about this place before coming here, and I must say it did not disappoint in any way. The dishes (which apparently do rotate frequently) all seemed amazingly good and it took me a long time to choose. When I finally did, I was not in any way disappointed. A point which may be slightly inconsequential to me, but maybe very important to other people was that all of the side dishes and accompaniments that I had were very nutritious and most definitely healthy. I have no idea when and how I will find myself in Guelph again. I'd love to hope that I do again one day, and when I do I will definitely come back to Baker Street Station. read more

After hearing about this place from a friend I knew I had to give it a try. We arrived for lunch at around 11:30am on a Saturday. It was not busy yet, but it really started to pick up around 12. We sat at a really cute table by the window upstairs. Our server was excellent. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She made us feel very welcome, and helped me decide what to order. I went with one of the featured items on the menu board, duck confit poutine. My friend got the Waldorf salad with onion rings. For dessert we splurged and got the sticky toffee pudding. Our meals were great. You can tell this place takes pride in their fresh ingredients. The onion rings are impressive to say the least. Lovely pillow soft fluffy batter with shaved Parmesan cheese on top. The dipping sauce was also delicious. My duck confit poutine was also very good and better then I expected. Very rich deep flavored meat topped with a sweet compote. They use real Quebec cheese curds, which was the selling point for me. Only criticism I had were that skin of the duck meat could have been removed as it got very soggy sitting in the gravy and cheese. My friend enjoyed her salad and loved the candied walnuts. She said the salad would have been better for her if the kale was replaced with spinach, but that's just a personal preference. We both really enjoyed the dessert, I never had sticky toffee pudding before but I loved the contrast between the warm cake and cold ice cream. I would definitely come back to try other dishes!
