The horse was in its upper 30's and well taken care of at KKT. The best life care provided for a horse that had advanced age related health obstacles. Reality of the horses age is the result of being humanely euthanized. Just as in humans, age related issues can result quickly. She went down in her stall overnight and was suffering. The owner was RARELY out to see either horse they owned. It would have been CRUEL and INHUMANE to let that beautiful soul suffer any longer.

The stalls are metal, and very open, so the horses can see each other, plus it never gets that worn out look that wooden barns get. They have a very good sized indoor and outdoor arena, plus turn out pens and 2 pastures. Every boarder gets their own tack stall, which is clean and convenient, fits everything, even 2 saddles! Because it's a small barn, every horse gets personal care. The owner doesn't hesitate to cal you if there's even a small issue, like a torn blanket strap. Rick, the owner, has been great to me, and will even haul me up to shows for an extremely fair price. Unlike other barns, they don't charge you for the little extras, like supplement feeding or blanketing. The barn is pretty mellow as well. Since there are only 28 stalls, its never chaotic and crowded. There are lessons a few days a week, but it's not a big hassle and you can still use the arena without incident. The boarders are really nice and willing to help you out. It's not any specific kind of barn (jumper, western, etc). It's all breeds, and all styles. The board is more than fair, the facilities are modern, clean, and spacious, and the people are helpful and kind. I couldn't ask for more!

The feed and hay is always top-notch and the horses are carefully monitored with regard to weight, not too lean, not too heavy. Supplements and meds are given per request, without question. Turnout is daily, with careful consideration of inclement weather. All fencing is safe. Horses are closely observed in case of illness. There is a stall that has a video cam for 24 hour monitoring of horses if need arises. Stalls are large and airy, cleaned daily and well-bedded. There is a large indoor arena and 10 miles of state park riding trails across the road. I have never had an issue with anything in seven years. This is as close to perfect as it gets!

Both arenas have been getting dragged multiple times a week. The new owners , Betty and Joe, are wonderful horsemen. They know what they are doing and are very helpful if you have any questions. They have made huge improvements in the barns and the property which include sky lights in the aisles and indoor arena ,new paddocks and a renovated club room. They are supportive of boarders who want to learn and take care of their horses the proper way. Rustic woods currently has 3 independent trainers in various disciplines but all are willing to help everyone in the barn. The hay has been great since they took over. The owners did the right thing by " weeding out" the individuals who chose not to follow the rules and that were inappropriate to other boarders. Every single boarder and employee of rustic is caring and easy to get along with. The barn is a large, supportive family now. The horses nicker at Betty when she walks in the barn and if you ever need help, you can bet Joe will be there to help you. They take wonderful care of the horses and this is the happiest I've been at this barn in over 10 years. I know my horses look great and are happy as well.
