There are quite a few shopping centers in this part of Boynton Beach. I came to Oakwood Square to have lunch at TooJay's Deli. After lunch I decided to do some shopping and visited the Dollar Tree and Five Below. I was especially excited to find a Kirkland's because the one near me closed. Other businesses include TJ-Maxx, Sally Beauty, Sola Salons, Coldwell Banker, Super Cuts, Davita Kidney Care, a dance studio, and Tijuana Flats. There were a lot of places I like to eat at and shop at but there were a few empty spaces too. Overall I think this plaza has a good mix of businesses for shopping, dining, and health and beauty services.

We were here to take a kids chess class, which happens on Saturdays a couple of times a month. The class is in the middle of the mall surrounded by all sorts of sculptures. There is plenty of parking and is pleasant enough to take strolls around checking out the various art sculptures.

The large gift shop had a lot to choose from at different prices. We came for the Wine Down event happening right in front of the Delray Affair in April. Wine, beer & soft drinks were available for purchase & I got to unwind & explore the exhibits. The WineDown will be open Friday & Saturday from 12-6 PM and Sunday from 12-5 PM. Proceeds benefit the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce & the Cornell Museum.

Last week, everything came together and we were finally able to stop by the museum after a nearby lunch. The museum is located on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Swinton. We've passed by many time going east on the avenue. There is metered parking on the side streets. The museum is in the hundred year old plus Delray School House. We entered and were greeted by the docent/volunteer. She told us a little about the building's history and which classrooms were originally located where before the remodeling was done. She also told us that they have no permanent exhibits, and that all the art work in the building was for sale. If you were interested in buying something, you should inquire about the price of the piece in the museum store. The first floor was occupied with works by the American artist, Dorothy Gillespie. Although she was a painter, she also worked in many different media. She was well known for her creative, colorful metal works of art. One quote compares her level of metal craft and skill as equal to Chihuly and his glassworks. On the second floor -- yes, there is a big staircase, but we took the elevator from inside the gift shop/store -- are works by Chilean-born Gustavo Novoa. Approximately 30 paintings show colorful, luxurious jungle scenes with animals. The volunteer said his art reminded her of the lushness of Gauguin's paintings. On second floor, there is also an exhibit of mosaics from a Mexican school. They are portraits of famous people -- actors, singers, etc. You will recognize most of them. The tiny pieces are put together in intricate patterns to form the faces. In some of them, they incorporate other materials -- like a piece of jewelry as a broach, leather as clothing, etc. They are fascinating to view up close first and then step back to see the overall portrait. The exhibits rotate periodically. The museum entrance is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5 per person which we happily paid. I'm glad we finally got a chance to visit.

I came here for a free open mic comedy night on a Monday. It was like an express comedy show. There…read morewere comedians going up giving their bits and then finishing quite quickly. Some of them I found to be very funny. Others were just working on some jokes and testing it on an audience in a judge free space. The room is like a small garage, and it's very intimate. It's almost like a little hidden gem. It appeared that most of the audience were comedians practicing their bit. I came here to meet up with some friends. The peach has a Mexican restaurant as well as a lot of local art studios. But at the time I was there (late in the evening on a weeknight) the studios were closed. Parking is a little bit odd. There are very limited spaces in the lot. But there is lots of street parking. The night I was there though, I had to park a little far away. The event was free, and so was the parking which was great. I would love to come back and explore more art experiences. The show was chaotic, but well run.

The corner has the traffic light and there are no special lights dedicated for the shopping center entrances. It's pretty well landscaped as most South Florida shopping centers tend to be. That means there are places for people to be out of sight so be especially aware of your surroundings. That said, the shopping center is in very good condition with plenty of parking. Built more than 14 years ago, this shopping center has been popular since it opened. It's located…read morejust west of Lyons Road and North of Atlantic Avenue in western Delray Beach. It's considered a combination shopping, dining and entertainment destination and one of the newer ones in Delray. It's got a plethora of stores and about 9 restaurants as well as places for yogurt, chocolates, and candies. Some of the restaurants like Burt's have been there since it opened. And some (like Terra) are newer. A few favorites have closed, but there's always something to see while strolling the easily walkable center. At the northern end, is the movie theater and entertainment center with bowling and arcade games, etc. We had stopped for dinner with friends at Batch and then enjoyed strolling and exploring. It was a lovely comfortable night to be out and about. And a lot of other folks agreed.

Read on and I will explain. The flea market looks like an old mega-department store that went out of business and was then bought and maintained by the people. This is exactly what I found inside: nail boutiques, salons, cell phone providers, bubble tea shops, korean cafes, etc. Each independently-owned and maintained. Essentially, this is a free-for-all! I came in with a limited budget in terms of time and money, but ended up with a full belly and a worthwhile purchase: a $6 dollar hot wing tray from a korean family-owned cafe and a $5 pair of sunglasses. $11 dollars total = VICTORY! Come in and be prepared to spend some serious time here. Enjoy!

Set to open soon is the Wawa, Good Vets, Maoz Vegeterian, At&T, Capitol Carpet & Tile, Rejuven Med Spa, Yolk, and Crown Wine, Spirits, Gourmet. Along with the restaurants and businesses Mainstreet will also include the 130 unit senior assisted living facility, Anthology. I tried out the Sprouts which has a nice prepared food section. Yolk is a solid breakfast and lunch option. The rest of the businesses will be useful to the residents of Anthology when they open.
