Gave Balanced Anatomy a try. They have a team of RMT's along with two part-time acupuncturists. Saw Angela Liu for acupuncture ($120.00 for 60 minutes). Her treatment consisted of needles with a heat lamp. She was away from the room for the majority of the time, only returning twice to twist/wiggle the needles. I'd asked if she could do some cupping but was told it's dependent on the area. Have been to many acupuncturists over the years and have never heard that before. A well deserved massage by Aimee was just what the neck & lower back Dr. ordered... This small therapeutic spa has a really nice soft gentle energy feel. As you walk in its setting is similar to a Japanese garden, they serve green tea with soft beautiful music playing in the background. There is a lobby and about 4 rooms for therapy work, with 5 Register Massage Therapists. My Masseuse was young but very well schooled it many areas of therapeutic bodywork. I visited here yesterday for my first time and left half way thru my massage treatment. I would highly caution anyone from booking with RMT David Lam. He treated my sore neck/shoulder area aggressively with rocks .. grinding into the sore area to the point where my jaw and teeth began grinding and vibrating. He did not explain what he was about to do and my body felt it was being assaulted. I have never walked out of a treatment - not ever. Today my neck and shoulder feel completely painful and frozen. My lower back is in spasm. I will never go to this studio again .. perhaps other therapists are good here .. but this experience has completely ruined my day and caused significant pain. Someone needs to inform David Lam his practice is unsafe! read more

This was my first RMT experience so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I was impressed with Justin. He asked very specific questions about my pain and thoroughly explained what he was going to do. After a 45 minute massage I felt immediate relief and the next day my pain was almost gone just like he predicted. I'll agree with a previous poster about the noise. It's not a super relaxing space. The room itself was nice, but you could hear every conversation occurring outside the walls. Even with that, I will probably go back. read more

I've been going to Sam for years and love her! My husband comes here too and usually books either Sam or Petra. Both are great, friendly, approachable, and will listen to your concerns and asks questions. I book my appointments online, so not having anyone at the reception area when I first come in doesn't bother me. I just sit and wait for my RMT to show up when I have an appointment. On the rare occasion that I called in, the voicemails that I do leave are always returned in a reasonable timeframe. If your room is located on the side closest to Main St, there is a bit of traffic noise. If your room is located on the opposite side, I usually don't hear any noise at all. read more

This is the noisiest clinic of any kind. The owner is not an RMT and so just hangs around and talks all day long to everyone who will listen. While the practictioner I saw for many months was exceptional, the environment is so noisy - the walls are paper thin and the massage rooms are all next to the tea shop they run & the cash station. If having a massage in a retail store is your idea of a good way to spend your money then enjoy. Everyone else should look for a respectful owner who offers their RMTs and clients a quiet and peaceful space to work & be worked on. Also they say they have parking but it's unmarked and actually belongs to a restaurant who will tow your car....very expensive and time consuming! read more

The place is very nice and I am sure others who work there are great but I had a terrible experience with Angela the acupuncturist. I was informed by Angela that I could purchase a package of 7 sessions. I paid approximately $525.00. She told me it would be cheaper than paying on a dropin/apt basis. I then discovered that Angela only worked a couple times a week. Appointments were hard to make. I have 4 sessions left and I recently booked an appointment and now she tells me that it has been over a year and the package is expired. She then said I would now have to pay for acupuncture sessions. I was shocked I was never informed of this and there was no paper work given to me with this clause. The money was paid directly to her. She tried to convince me that it was the policy of Balance Acupuncture but the website states that she is independently-contracted sole proprietor. I asked her to return my money and she refused. She then back tracked and said she would fulfill the package but at this point I no longer wanted any treatment from her. I am exploring my options about how I can get part of my $300.00 back. read more

Need to add that I started seeing Angela for acupuncture, and she's been amazing for pain management (headaches, running injuries, etc). She uses the Chinese method of acupuncture and I like that she incorporates Chinese medicine into her appointments. I'm very happy with her! read more

I just had a massage with Amanda and felt compelled to share my experience with her. She is a healer. I feel absolutely blessed to have met her and that she is practicing in Vancouver. I want others to experience her healing so I will be telling everyone about her. She wanted to get to know me as she massaged and is very intuitive. . Usually I would just want to sleep during a massage but I felt comfortable sharing with her and it helped her understand why certain massages felt a certain way for me. I had a good massage with Deseree. I wouldn't say it was very therapeutic (I went with a specific problem and wanted a more RMT-style massage) but it was relaxing. The therapists here are RMTs, but the focus seemed less on sports therapy and more on relaxation. I'd go back for a treat, and stick with my regular RMT for therapy. read more

This is my favourite place to get massages on Main St, and there are quite a few options. As a trades person I need to get bodywork done quite regularly and have gotten familiar with the practitioners here. I kept seeing different massage therapists until Joanne, who is amazing and I've been seeing periodically for a couple years now. I live in Whistler now but still book in with her occasionally when I'm in the city. I went to David Lam for a massage, and was very disappointed - on many fronts. It's the first time having a massage when I was waiting for it to be over. I had an hour long massage and he only managed to get to my shoulders. That is where my tension was centred, but it was a stress relief massage, so I would have expected attention to more areas. I have never had a massage therapist spend so much time in one area (and not be particularly good at that area). He also use heated rocks. These are okay as part of a treatment, but not a great replacement for hands. As well, he asked a lot of personal questions. I often like to talk to my massage therapist, but don't expect them to initiate a lot of conversation. Finally, I do long distance exercise, and David warned that this might result in scarring of the heart and decreased longevity. I just don't think he is in a place to be saying those things to a patient - it's really not his area of expertise. read more
