Thanks Friends! I was honestly blown away! Have I just been watching mediocre and "bad" modern dance this entire time? The partnering work of the 2nd and 3rd pieces blew me away...mental note to self: work on upper body strength! The rest of the choreography was smooth, wellconnected, athletic, and beautiful; wheras most modern dances I've seen typically looks as if the dancers just got jacked up on Redbull, E and acid, then tossed on stage to do whatever they feel like. The music was interesting and went well with the pieces and lighting; it was not the typical modern dance crazy tribal or gothic "churchy" music, both of which I can't stand. Unfortunately the last piece was "countryish" music, which did not fit with the rest of the show and seemed very out of place; good choreography wasted on a bad piece of music! Overall, I was very impressed with the entire presentation will definitely be back to see future Malashock shows...maybe even take modern classes after a 9 year haitus...

From the moment the class started, it was clear that he was more interested in showcasing his own skills than actually teaching. His condescending attitude made it impossible to enjoy the class or learn anything new. Instead of providing constructive feedback, It's evident that he uses his supposed dance experience as an excuse to inflate his ego, making the entire class about himself rather than focusing on the students' improvement. This kind of behavior is not only unprofessional but also discouraging for anyone trying to learn or improve their dancing skills. I would strongly advise anyone looking for a positive and supportive dance environment to steer clear of this place. The only positive experience was meeting nice people (other students).

WTF you're the instructor but you're not looking at your students movements? Shouldn't an instructor do that to correct and provide feedback?! The students were so much nicer than her . Two people came to me to give me encouragement, they were really sweet. Her tacky and unwelcoming comment turned me off, i left a few minutes early. Ultimately I found another studio to commit to. Additionally, she was doing some weird Movements, it felt more freestyle than a beginner into to bachata and salsa.

After stretches we went into some hula moves (Ka'o, huli, ami, kaholo, etc.) the moves are a little different than the ones we learned at our first halau. Anyways I really enjoyed this class; I love how Auntie Ida instructs and directs the moves. Feel and move with the sound of the beat... 1, 2, 1, 2... Cz ya know I can go off beat in my own little world. Its one helluva workout; I was drippn swagoo. At first I was very shy and didn't speak to anyone but after a few classes I've made new friends and enjoy learning the new dances. If you're looking for a halau to just exercise or even to use your talent to participate with Tahiti Fete this is the place to be. We practice twice a week and Ida offers Hot Hula classes too. Choosing The First Dance Place was EASILY one of the best decisions we made for our wedding! When…read morewe came to Katie, we had a very ambitious song and a couple home practice sessions under our belt, all of which amounted to a do-si-do and a loose hope that *maybe* our dance would turn out okay. (Spoiler: without Katie, this never would have been possible!) Katie excitedly took all of our ideas and broke down seemingly complicated dance patterns into an easily digestible format that we could practice and repeat! We learned dips, spins, and found ourselves laughing and having so much fun with each and every class. The sessions quickly turned into date nights and we both agreed that our classes and home practice sessions were the most fun and rewarding part of the wedding planning process! Fast forward to the big day, and we NAILED IT! We had practiced in our venue during rehearsal and thanks to Katie's planning and cue tips during our classes, we were easily able to repeat all the right moves and orient ourselves in the venue. We had only told a select few friends and family that we had been taking dance classes, so when the moment for our first dance arrived - everyone erupted in cheers and IT WAS A BLAST. Katie anticipated that all our guests would clap along to the beat and when they did - I remember just laughing and smiling all through our dance. We ended our first dance on a high (obviously), but also found ourselves so easily dancing and falling into patterns with each other on the dance floor that we hadn't found previously. It only took those 8 sessions with Katie and we found a confidence and ease on the dance floor that will always stick with us and grow. This is a memory that we will hold forever. Katie is the kindest and most easy going human being and will make you feel that you're capable of anything (and any dance)! We'll continue to dance to our song for many years to come and we will always think fondly of Katie and TFDP every time we do. If you're even remotely on the fence about booking these dance classes, THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO DO IT! Take an introductory class and go from there, I guarantee it will be an easy yes and a memory that you'll have forever.
