I had the Steak and Ale pie and it was just delicious. The mashed potatoes were perfect and the vegetable medley was just what I needed after all the fried food I had been having on the trip. I tried my friend's lamb and it was to die for. The only complaint I heard was about the chutney for the vegan curry. Save room for dessert. The sticky toffee pudding was one of the best desserts I've ever had; I'll be thinking about it for a long time.

Tourism is not extensive at Workington. The owners, Steven and Angela are really nice and do a good job of making sure you have a comfortable stay. I happened to stay in Room 10 on the second floor towards the rear of the building. The room was spacious, warm and clean. The bed was comfortable and I enjoyed three nights of blissful sleep. They also have free Wifi. At the moment they only do breakfast. I was told that they're in the process of refurbishing the hotel after which they will be able to provide a full dining experience. Talking of the breakfast, I was keen on a bacon sandwich. I had an amazing plate of sandwich on the two days I chose to have breakfast and got a good quantity of excellent coffee to wash it down. Again, no complaints whatsoever. They do have a policy of no food in the rooms, which came as a bit of a let down. However, according to Steve, they have had a few bad experiences of sauces and gravy being spilled on the sheets, which has resulted in this policy. So, you've been informed. Overall, if and when I have to go to Workington the next time, I would prefer to stay at the Green Dragon.

There is a large bar downstairs populated by locals. The location for the downtown is excellent. A large number of shops and restaurants nearby. Street parking which has time limits at certain hours. We stayed in the little out-house, 'out back' and it was perfect! It's a quaint little B&B but it was perfect for our little weekend getaway, it can sleep 3 people (which we needed for the first night), the view is excellent, the staff is very pleasant, the bed was HUGE, good pillows, excellent breakfast, phone and internet reception is great - we'd stay here again! My only small complaints is that it was too hot overnight and the towels were the size of postage stamps. That aside it was a great stay, so very relaxing and removing from all things 'normal' and we'd love to go back!

Best visited on sunny days, the harbour is a lovely walk where various information boards contain information on the history of the harbour, detailing it's past uses and recent changes. At the end of the harbour you can watch the gates open to let boats come in and out, and round and about the harbour a wide selection of boats can be seen. There's plenty of seating for picnics and an ice cream van is regulalrly on hand!

The menu didn't offer anything out of the ordinary, and I opted for the Shepherds Burger with cheese, which was refreshingly nice. The beef was sourced locally, and the cheese was not the run of the mill cheddar that is often plonked on top. The beef was succulent and disitinctly fresh. The normal additions came with the burger, such as, chips, coleslaw, and a bit of salad. All tasted very nice. Overall, the meal was very filling and tasty, but the price range exceeds the quality. Unfortunately, the selection of beverages is very limited. If you are nearby, then it is worth a visit.
