"See, this called kitchen Ferrari stove, this is particularly good because ..." known as one of the best restaurants in the Netherlands, when Restaurant de Lindenhof chef Martin Martin Kruithof realized that my bf is also a chef, he passionately introduced his kitchen to us. Different from the general Michelin restaurant, after awarded two stars, chef Martin still cooks. They host guests to visit the kitchen from time to time, sit in the kitchen, and welcomes children to the restaurant, and all of these are intended to give guests a "Michelin cuisine, but to your feelings like home" feeling. As soon as we sat down, 7 courses free appetizers were served. Amazing! Seven! Some of them reminded us the day-to-day Dutch food but is just so delicious and well-made in fresh ingredients and skillful details. I love one that looks like Japanese hand roll - the raw fish on top was fresh and the style was so cute. The fried tomato on top of lemon ice cream was a surprise and I loved it! We selected 12 course "Martin's choice" and it came with duck, sweetbread, crab, beef, fish, and many more. The sweetbread tastes like Asian marinated sauces, which we loved it. The crab covered with sauces which was made as shaved iced. The ice which made with sauces melted in my mouth along with the fresh crab. Awesome. Duck liver was also very tasty even I usually don't eat duck liver. The lobster soup was very strong and you felt like eating a real lobster. Only small issue is that we got a small piece of crab shell on our plate. The coffee ice cream tiramisu was great. I personally think the lemon ice cream was too bitter but my bf loved it. We are so lucky and honored to visit Martin's kitchen and amazingly they only have 5 staff. So clean, so many different sauces from various countries, and chef Martin is so passionate and still experimenting new dishes using new ingredients. Of course, services was awesome. I think the executive chef/owner Martin was not working for winning Michelin. However, doing something he loves with passion and do it to the best, then the honor and awards came. I learned an amazing lesson tonight at this Michelin star restaurant.

To be honest, the prices normally were practically the same as during Restaurant Week so it really doesn't matter. Perhaps it is the curse of restaurant week but the food was OK, tasty overall but nothing memorable or amazing. The wait time in between courses was ridiculously long. Food: 3/5 We had the restaurant week menu which was 3 courses, but we choose to add a few other dishes so it ended up being a 5 course menu. The food was tasty but it wasn't amazing or memorable, as a matter of fact, I barely remember what I ate that night. Atmosphere: 3/5 It is a classy restaurant which is designed to feel like the living room of a very rich person. One where you had to have proper manners, and eat like a lady. It was more about "seen and be seen" instead of eating a delicious meal. Service: 2/5 My expectations may have been biased because it has a Michelin star, so you should take this with a grain of salt. It was certainly better service than the normal Dutch standard. The staff were polite and answered questions when we asked them, however they don't pay much attention to their actual customers. Despite the fact that our entire group spoke English, they constantly spoke to us in Dutch. Now, you might say "hey, maybe they don't speak English" but they did because they spoke to me in perfect English when they were asking us if we wanted the extra courses. Value: 1/5 I'm almost sorry to say that I could have gotten tastier food at a cheaper price elsewhere. It was ridiculously expensive for what we had and I don't know how on earth they have a Michelin star.

And of the…read moreDutch, the Frisians are not a people famed for being much more than stubborn farmers and boaters with their own language. So, I'll forgive you if you doubt my claim that there's an amazing fine dining establishment in the tiny (and charming) village of Eastermar that serves regionally produced food that would rival that of many larger cities the world over. Well, there is, and it's this restaurant. The meal I recently enjoyed here, in the first week of December 2010, was the second time that I had dined here. The first, on an earlier trip, left me very impressed and I sang its praises to loved ones there. On this most recent trip, I had to take my family of picky eaters here and see how they liked it. Fortunately for the quality, their menu changes a lot, depending on what their suppliers have. You may not find the same items we enjoyed, but your food will be fresh. Appetizers: (In English, het spijt mij) Duck breast salad - Everybody who tried a bite loved it! (I don't eat much meat) Beef Carpaccio - same deal, rave reviews Bread board - delicious hearty fresh bread served with an herbed butter and tapanade! Entrees: Steak - looked amazing Duck - more rave reviews Zeebaars - I'm not sure what type of fish this is, but eat it up! Snoekbaars - Same as above: put it in your belly! Side Dishes: Cabbage - sauteed with tomatoes and seasoning: so much better than you would think cabbage could be! Potatoes - excellent, but I was fit to burst Fresh cauliflower - almost too pretty to eat: a real flower looking thing, but yummy also Dessert: I had a sampling of some local yummies. It was designed to be consumed consecutively and did not disappoint! Wine: Our table had some house red and dry house white. Both were comfortably above what one expects from house wine. Oddly enough, both were served in the same style of glass. The lack of different red and white glasses is literally the ONLY aspect of the meal that was not superb (clearly not enough to lose a star over). As far as the details go, there are a lot of other things to recommend this establishment. There's a lovely bar. The staff is friendly. For smokers, there's a smoking room. (It was snowing the night we went in, so a few from our party appreciated the indoor room.) There's a great kid's menu. Given the quality, the prices are incredibly fair. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has historic photos of the local area to interest customers. Get a reservation and go there! If I were on the right continent to eat there more often, I would be in regularly!

If you are sharing a meal with someone, get items from a different prix-fixe menu and you can both try a variety of items. We enjoyed: * Charcuterie plate: sausages taste minimally processed and delicious * Beef and onion stew: taste slightly different than ones in America * Cauliflower and cheese oven bake: vegetarian's comfort food * Hutspot (mashed potatoes and carrots) and meatballs: non-vegetarian's comfort food * Pea soup with smoked ham For desserts, we had chocolate mousse and vlaflip (vanilla custard) and they were just okay. I'm not sure if desserts are the Dutch's strengths, except maybe the Dutch apple pie. They even bottle their own house beer. The restaurant is small. Try to make a reservation if you can. We didn't have a reservation, but went to the restaurant at around 5PM and were seated in about 15 minutes. At times, the line could get very long, but the staff is still welcoming and ensures that everyone gets served...eventually.

Portions are substantial and a very good value in a neighborhood where tourist-markups are the norm. They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).
