Been going to…read morethe USAF museum since the first big buildings opened, and have watched the expansions every decade or so. But there is a lot more to Dayton. Yes, Wright-Patt is central to the city, but Delco, NCR, the universities, and more add to the culture and economy. There's a decent food scene. I discover more hidden gems on every trip. There are several good breweries. The city has had some down times, but is coming back strong. The base helps, and other draws like the amazing Art Institute, Carillon Park, the Packard Museum (in an old dealership) and more. Some pretty impressive parks and trails that I have just barely begun to explore. Not far from Cinci and Columbus, and Miami in Oxford, Dayton is worth the hour or so drive. Spend a day, have some fun, eat something good.

Now before your brain goes "Air Force Museum, strip clubs and meh food" there are some things I want to share with you about this interesting city. First of all, they have a great craft beer scene here. I can tell you that their brew scene is easily equal to anything that Columbus and Cincinnati is offering up these days. I'm working my way through my bucket list with Carillon Brewing, Toxic Brew, Warped Wing, Eudora Brewing Co. and Dayton Brewing Company all coming to mind. If beer isn't your thing, then I'd recommend The Belle of Dayton Distillery. They make their own rum and vodka and it's a great place to settle in, have a drink and enjoy the local cool spot called The Oregon District. The Oregon District, by the way, is a great urban downtown neighborhood. It's bohemian, trendy, gritty, cosmopolitan and it's a great place to have lunch, dinner and cocktails. It's one of the prime areas to get out of your car and explore all the little shops and boutiques that inhabit the area. Look up some of the reviews and I bet you'll be ready to head over and explore one of the cool spots of this Midwestern city. Now how can we talk about Dayton and not mention Wegerzyn Gardens and The Cox Arboretum? Both are wonderful green spaces that are true gems in this city. For those folks that prefer to get into nature while pedaling over and around, check out the Miami Valley River Trail. With 330 miles of bike trails, it's the largest system in the US. If you're not so much into nature, of course the National Museum Of The United States Air Force is world renowned and visited by people from all over the world. I'm sure some of them also find their way to The Dayton Art Institute, Carillon Historical Park, America's Packard Museum and one of the favorites for the folks with kids and grandkids: The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. And lastly, for the foodies: Check out Dorothy Lane Markets. There's 3 of them and all are worthy of a visit although the Washington Square location on Far Hills is my favorite by far. Just go there and be impressed. So there you have it. Dayton. I'm having a great time exploring the area and I hope you do too. A solid 4 stars.

It is in a bank parking lot…read more It reads, "The first overland route between Dayton and Cincinnati was cut by Daniel Cooper in 1795 to provide access to the new town of Dayton, located at the mouth of the Mad River in the Symmes Purchase. The survey, entered into the record by Cooper and Jr. John Hole, extended Harmer's Trace north from near Cunningham's Station on the Mill Creek to the mouth of the Mad River, establishing the earliest road between Cincinnati and Dayton. This five-mile segment between David Road and State Route 725 is the last remaining traceable potion retaining this name. Cooper, a miller, was instrumental in the early settlement of Dayton, and Dr. Hole, the first physician in Montgomery County, established his cabin in 1796 on this par of Mad River Road." On the opposite side of the marker, "Road from Cunningham's to Mad River. Be it remembered that pursuant to an order of Court to Daniel Cooper, Daniel Griffing and John Hole on a petition of more than twelve citizens of the County aforesaid, the following survey of a road int he said County was made and reported, to wit, Beginning at Cunningham's Station, thence along the old road for four miles and a half, thence North eleven miles, thence North twenty five degrees East thirteen miles; (etc.) the whole distance being thirty eight miles and three fourths of a mile (1797 Survey for part of Mad River Road recorded in the Hamilton County Road Book B-1). Located in the core of Clifton, this marker tells the tale of a town that has been bypassed by…read moretechnology and development. It's still a nice place and I do suggest a visit. The marker reads, "This historic village was a hub for early Ohio industry and travel. The natural geography of the area provided ideal conditions for the establishment of a variety of mills. Col. Robert Patterson, an ancestor of the founder of National Cash Register in Dayton, John Patterson, chose Clifton for the site of a woolen mill, which furnished material for the American army during the War of 1812. Davis Mill, established in 1802 and in operation today as Clifton Mill, produced meal and flour for Civil War troops. A major stop on the stagecoach trail, "The Accommodation Line," which ran from Springfield to Cincinnati from 1827 to 1840, the village bustled with the commotion of travelers. The once flourishing industry of Clifton faded as railroad traffic bypassed the village and manufacturers left the area." It was erected in 2002 by the Ohio Bicentennial Commission, The Longaberger Company, The Village of Clifton, and The Ohio Historical Society. It is marker number 5-29. I just wanted to give a shout out to the Montgomery County Board of Elections. I went there…read moreSaturday, March 9, 2024, to vote early and it was an awesome experience. They have a parking garage and the sign said to enter from 2nd street. Not sure if it's always that way, but parking was free and the gates were already open. Once I parked, there were clear signs all around on where to vote. From the parking floor, to the floors inside the building, they were all taped well on the floor telling you where to go to vote. When I got to the voting area, there were several attendants that validated your voter identification and directed you with blank ballot to the appropriate voting machine. Checking in to vote was very professional, quick and efficient. I can't recommend this enough for those that don't want to wait until Election Day to vote. There are only a few more days to vote early, so if you prefer this option, I would recommend going soon. Next week they are even open on Sunday. March 11: 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. March 12: 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. March 13-15: 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. March 16: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. March 17: 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. I appreciate everyone that made it so easy to vote. This is my second time voting here early. I believe the first time, because it was on a weekday, I did have to get a parking stub. However, I believe they did validate my parking stub. For most people, it probably will be farther than your voting day location. However, the convenience more than makes up for it. There's no excuse not to vote with all the options in Ohio! I typically love the Miamisburg library. The library itself is always clean, well-maintained, and…read morestocked with books. The thing I don't like is they rarely offer programs for older teens at the Miamisburg branch. I'd love to see a poll out for our Miamisburg community each season to see what works around school and sports. I also find that a lot of the cool library programs are ran at libraries in the north vs anywhere close to home. It seems like the library staff doesn't really want to host events for families in their area.

The DML Miamisburg Branch is a quiet little library somewhat off the beaten path. When you walk in,…read moreyou'll notice the vaulted ceiling surrounding the middle of the library with lots of windows allowing plenty of natural light. Group spaces include two quads with space for up to 4 people, two group rooms for up to 8 people, one conference room for up to 10 people and a community room for up to 45 people. They also have a quiet reading room with two 4-person tables and several reading chairs. My first time visiting I had trouble finding where to park, as there is not a lot attached to the building. The Miamisburg Board of Education building is directly north of the library and has some parking on its' south end, but I wasn't sure if library patrons were allowed to park there. I drove around the block and ended up parking in a street spot on 6th St. Once inside, I learned the lot used for the library is actually across 6th St, just northeast of the library. Although, signs for this would have been helpful. Overall though, another great DML branch!
